These days, parenting tips are available from a wealth of sources and sometimes it can be tricky to know who to listen to. The team at Nurofen for Children would love to hear who you turn to for the best parenting advice and why you trust or listen to them most of all.

Here's what Nurofen for Children says,"Being a parent is a wonderful life changing experience, full of challenges and triumphs at every stage. We understand seeking advice from a variety of sources is an important part of feeling confident in the decisions you make for your children, so we’d love to hear who you turn to for advice (and the reasons you love the tips they give)".

So please share on this thread your best sources of advice: whether it's a trusted friend who has been there and done that, your own mum, your health visitor, a magazine or blog, the content pages or talk boards on MN Wink etc. They'd also like to know why you love that source of advice so much - perhaps you could share the best advice you've been given and why it worked for you.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

MNHQ

Always my mum. She has had Parkinson's for nearly 20 years but she astounds me with her knowledge for all tho ha child related.

Pinktilgate · 22/02/2016 18:58

I always turn to my mum for advice! And Mumsnet of course! It's nice to have a forum community filled with parents who have been through and are going through the same journey!

ngonizashe · 22/02/2016 19:23

My own mother - she had 9 of us and has advice for everything! For serious illnesses I would see the GP/pharmacist or call NHS 111

fazkin · 22/02/2016 20:37

My mum and my sister. They understand me and my circumstances so can give the best advice.

clairemelvin · 22/02/2016 20:46

It depends the type of advice but usually my mum because I trust her and think I turned out ok!

GrooveHeart · 22/02/2016 21:36

To my friends with children of a similar age. It's good to hear from people going through the same thing at the same time.

Angelareynolds · 22/02/2016 22:33

My Mam was a foster carer for 36 years so I always phone her as she is knowledgable, calm and knows Nurofen works best. In an emergency I'm sure I would always seek professional help however so far Mam's advice has worked.

princesssmitheee · 23/02/2016 01:28

my friends who have already had kids , there my close friends and i trust them

My mum, because she is the best mum!

milliemoocross · 23/02/2016 12:53

It was always my mam until she passed away suddenly x I now ask friends and use mumsnet x

emmav6 · 23/02/2016 14:15

i read a lot on birth groups, good to have other mums going through the same stage as me

JS06 · 23/02/2016 16:44

I trust NHS Direct for general advice which I can source myself, would also look on Mumsnet or other friends who have older children and can be relied upon. I trust my own instincts too and my research capabilities. Our kids are teenagers now, quite IT literate and capable of doing their own research which I would oversee if there was something serious being researched.

parris · 23/02/2016 19:21

Having three children I am now much more confident in following my own instincts so I generally wouldn't seek advice, apart from medical obviously when I would go to a doctor. That's not to say everything's perfect in my house, more that I now have that quiet confidence in myself that I wish I had when I first became a mum.

megletthesecond · 23/02/2016 19:29

Mumsnet or other school parents. I certainly wouldn't ask my own mum.

For a major health concern I usually check the nhs Web page for pointers, probably look on mumsnet too and see the gp / out of hours service.

kaycm25 · 23/02/2016 19:54

Mumsnet, friends and my mum/mother in law.

kimnews · 23/02/2016 21:59

My Mum. She's never gone wrong with my brother and I, and I trust her completely.

grannybiker · 23/02/2016 22:35

Likes most, I'd ask my Mum, friends or health visitor.
Mother and baby magazines were also useful sources of information as we never had Mumsnet even tho it wasn't that long ago!

ustupidwoman · 24/02/2016 09:09

its a cross between my mum (for her old fashioned tips which have always stood me in good stead) and mumsnet for tips from other parents

jools401 · 24/02/2016 10:50

Family, friends, forums like this one, but most of all I trust my own instincts

Shakespearmint · 24/02/2016 11:15

I turn to a book called :
Love in the Time of Contempt -by Joanne Fedler
Insightful and humorous

Annimousey · 24/02/2016 13:33

My MIL. She's a trained nursery nurse (she even used to work at my little boy's pre-school) and she's full of useful knowledge. :)

omgitslani · 24/02/2016 14:10

I probably would ask mum as she is not at all a judgemental person and has raised seven of us herself. Mumsnet is useful for instant answers and there are a full range of parents in all sorts of situations so you can get a full answer from all sides.

rustedtulips · 24/02/2016 15:07

I always turn to my mum or my friend who is always there for me at any time I might need some help. My mum did a great job bringing my up and has 9 other children to compare any situation to. She has learnt a great deal in the bringing up of 10 children and has a lot of information that can help when I need it.

matphil · 24/02/2016 16:42

For the best parenting advice I would go to my mother as she always seems to know what's best.
