It’s 2016, and many of us have pledged to kick old habits or try something new. Clairol nice ‘n easy wants to know how Mumsnetters are getting on with sticking to their New Year’s resolutions.

Here’s what they say: “We’re all too familiar with the frustrations of being stuck on style repeat – whether it’s due to being busy at work, having a hectic social life or being scared of change. But little changes can make a big difference; whether that’s a new lipstick, a new accessory or a different hair shade. With nice’n easy’s wide palette of shades, there’s a shade for every woman who wants to refresh her look. Each shade delivers up to 100% grey coverage, plus natural tones and highlights, thanks to Clairol’s exclusive ColourBlend Technology. What better time to go for a change than a new year? That’s exactly the time we chose to change our models on pack. What changes did you plan for this year?”

How are your New Year’s resolutions going so far and plans? Perhaps you’re working off those Christmas mince pies by hitting the gym? Or are you trying to broaden your horizons by reading more books? Maybe you’re taking the “new year, new you” idea a little more literally, by colouring your hair or changing your wardrobe?

However you’re getting on with your resolutions, nice ‘n easy would love to hear about it.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw, where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Moving on.... It's easier than you think

CK12232 · 20/01/2016 09:39

Pretty good! My resolutions were to lose weight and to read more - I've lost 12lbs so far and am currently on my 6th book of 2016! Grin

PurpleCrazyHorse · 20/01/2016 10:11

Just about to order an activity monitor. Have done a bit more walking but have also been finishing off the Christmas treats Blush

vixxx666 · 20/01/2016 10:35

I've done ok I guess....cutting down my sugar intake...I'm managed to swap from Lucozade to fizzy water, still sugar but a lot less that what I was consuming...heading in the right direction though!

jocyrets · 20/01/2016 10:37

Doing well at being kind to myself and therefore kinder to my family

jenniwren12 · 20/01/2016 10:37

I wanted to save as much as possible in case of emergencies, nothing saved yet. :-(

LinnyBee · 20/01/2016 10:43

I've lost 5lb up to now and am speed walking like a mad woman. I'm hoping to start slow jogging in the next week or so... building up to proper jogging speed eventually.

I'm going to a few weddings this summer so I want to look a picture of health, without anyone thinking I'm pregnant again! Smile

emmamed123 · 20/01/2016 11:17

I haven't really made one.

I am on a losing battle to loose some weight, been trying for months, but those lbs don't seem to be budging.
One thing I am cutting out is fizzy drinks, hoping it will help.

manfalou · 20/01/2016 11:19

Our eating has definitely improved and we have gone out more... so yes i think its still going well

ser01 · 20/01/2016 13:05

i said i wanted to loose a bit of weight, this is the first time ive ever said that resolution so i was skeptical thinking as soon as i say it i will just be starving constantly but so far so good :)

Thegentlemonkey · 20/01/2016 14:19

After a shaky start my diet is now going well, & have also started running again, so feeling quite pleased so far

Traceyedd · 20/01/2016 14:35

Mine are less about resolutions and more about ambitions for the year. I find that if i talk about them like this they are positive and less focus is on success or failure. My first achievement happened very quickly in the new year as i proved to myself i was on my way back to fitness following the birth of my third child 6 months ago.

fuzzywuzzy · 20/01/2016 14:47

a work colleague always makes new years resolutions.

This year he decided to drink at least eight glasses of water a day.

The first day I made fun of him, the second day I decided to join him.

It is having a visible affect on me (apart from the initial peeing every five minutes). Once my body adjusted to it I've found it actually quite an interesting resolution.

I skip the afternoon slump, where normally I'd feel really tired after lunch, I don't I'm still going strong. My skin looks better and plumper, and I've lost the slight paunch on my stomach.

So far I've only been doing this for almost three weeks, I'm enjoying it actually and now find I get headachy if I don't drink enough water.

It's hardest to stick to over weekends, but during weekdays in the office it's easy, it's also good to be able to get up and have a quick break away from my computer to get a drink.

I reckon I will stick to this resolution as it is having such a positive visible effect.

morninpostie · 20/01/2016 15:00

Mine was to finally pack the smokes in and so far I'm doing ok. I had one when my mother came to visit as she is a full-on chimney, but I couldn't finish it, and hated the taste heh

niksja · 20/01/2016 15:23

well lets see, 1) give up smoking. 2) not stress over little things. 3) smile more. Let's just say I've failed on all 3. not a good start to the new year. :(

prettybird · 20/01/2016 16:23

I've written in my diary every day so far on the day itself Smile

iklboo · 20/01/2016 17:59

So far I've successfully avoided sleeping with Idris Elba & Aiden Turner.

oliveoyl72 · 20/01/2016 18:22

I have 2 resolutions and am getting on brilliantly with both. I've been getting at least 1 job done each day (allotment doesn't know what's hit it), and I'm pleased to say I haven't has a cigarette this year. I think both are helping each other as well, keeping busy is keeping my mind off smoking.

MAT12 · 20/01/2016 18:58

So far so good we both decided to swap our tea for fruit tea and biscuit with a healthy fruit bar. The only time i struggle is after dinner when we used to sit down with a cuppa and a few biscuits. Sticking to it though

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 20/01/2016 19:15

I don't do New Years resolutions. I tend to set myself little goals throughout the year, as and when things occur to me, but around new year on just too busy to even think about setting goals. It just sneaks up on me after Christmas every year and catches me by surprise. I also think January is the worst time of year for setting fitness goals because it's so miserable outside, but If I was going to make a New Years resolution, it would probably be to get fitter

HelenPlant · 20/01/2016 19:48

I always fail to keep mine, so this year I just did one realistic one - to be a better friend. It's going well so far.....no complaints yet!

anonooo · 20/01/2016 20:05

Blooming useless. Nails just as stubby as ever and work has overwhelmed me and I don't seem able to step back.

Alison18 · 20/01/2016 20:21

My resolution was to exercise every single day of 2016 for at least 20 minutes a day. Im sad to say, I havent achieved it!

Catmadroo · 20/01/2016 20:50

i've been trying to eat healthy, and exercise to lose weight, the latter being the hardest due to lack of babysitting options but I'm eating healthier and have lost 4lbs in first fortnight so hoping to continue that trend

HelenSw4les · 20/01/2016 20:52

Reasonably well; my NY Resolution was to get fit and lose weight. I've already lost 6lb but unfortunately in the process have hurt my back which has resulted in me not being able to exercise thus my weight loss has plateau'd, hopefully it will recover soon.
