We’ve been asked by Sheilas' Wheels to find out what Mumsnetters want from their Car Insurance policy.

They say "we appreciate that Car insurance isn't something you think about every day, however, should you need it you want to know everything is covered."

So what would be your ideal car insurance policy? Should it include a number of complimentary car washes each year? Any extras to keep your family safe when motoring?

Whatever you’d like from your car insurance policy, Sheilas' Wheels would love to hear your thoughts and ideas. Who knows, you could help shape the future of car insurance?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks,

Oh, and sensible renewal quotes!

WinterBabyof89 · 24/12/2015 13:39

No daft gimmicks please. Just fairly priced insurance (it's not rocket science).

When I change my details from working full time doing 8,000 miles p/y, to being a 'housewife' doing 4,000 miles p/y and my policy goes up, something's clearly wrong (3yrs ago now and still winds me up!).

Being asked daft questions like do you drive your car at night - no, 99% of the time I do not drive at 1am in the morning, but you can guarantee that on the one occasion I do an airport run for a relative I'll crash and insurance will be invalid.

Sheila's wheels have never even come close to being the lowest quote for me - thanks for that

GeoffreysGoat · 24/12/2015 22:30

Adequate cover, an excess that reflects the value of the car (I drive a £500 banger ffs) and peopyon the end of the phone who listen and understand the extremely simple questions I ask - don't just read a script at me.

My family has two cars; one private and one fleet-managed. Man, I love the fleet-managed car. Having one contact point to sort out all repairs, servicing, MOTs, insurance changes, replacements, breakdowns, etc. And the network of reputable firms, fair prices and work approval limits that means you aren't having unnecessary work done or being overcharged, I really do appreciate that. Is that something that's possible to arrange outside of a big company scheme? So not just insurance but a fuller, honest and reliable support package.

Not going up every year and having to shop around for a fair deal. Treat your customer fairly and they will stick with you.

BeeMyBaby · 25/12/2015 20:48

As others have said, free car washes really wouldn't entice us - we just want the best price possible, low excess just in case and a good no claims bonus.

Generation1979 · 25/12/2015 21:34

I want the value of my car seats covered in full. I have two £300 car seats and most policies only cover up to £100.

taz10 · 26/12/2015 00:37

best price no stupid toys and cover for being hit by uninsured driver

prwilson · 26/12/2015 00:49

As cheap as possible, with the reassurance that if anything happens things will be dealt with with the minimum of fuss.

tiddles12 · 26/12/2015 01:04

Same price or even a discount for customer loyalty instead of the 'best' deals for new customers
If I have to make a claim, make it easy and don't try and wriggle out of it
Decent price with a reasonable excess
U.K. Call centres with polite friendly staff
Make the policy documentation easy to understand
Fast resolution to claim

glennamy · 26/12/2015 01:12

good pricing, ncb, not being stitched up when renewing policy as I am fed up with getting a quote with the same company when policy is ending and it being 30-40% cheaper than that of the renewal price, breakdown cover at good rates,

nigelh66 · 26/12/2015 01:54

The same price whichever avenue you go down to get your policy.

Better incentives for loyal customers.

wendybrown · 26/12/2015 02:27

full cover and inexpensive will do

TracyKNixon · 26/12/2015 05:49

Fair system, easy to phone and quick to get through (UK call centre), any claims dealt with at speed, easy to apply for, easy to read forms (ie simple with no jargon or hidden terms!)

cwalliss82 · 26/12/2015 07:09

I want value for money from car insurance. (Touch wood) I have never claimed on my car insurance so I don't want to be paying the earth for it.

ThemisA · 26/12/2015 07:38

competitive price
quick, friendly, reassuring response when needed
Legal and medical cover
No claims bonus
Easy to renew

glenka · 26/12/2015 07:59

I just want a simple insurance policy with no fancy gimmicks but provides me with adequate cover

inspiron42 · 26/12/2015 08:06

A very low price

stevecurtis · 26/12/2015 08:08

To be fair and not try to wiggle out of paying a fair claim.

alabaster002 · 26/12/2015 08:35

A fair price and an efficient service if I need to claim.

edoody · 26/12/2015 08:40

A low premium, legal cover, protected no claims and excellent customer services if I do need to make a claim!

rachsimmons85 · 26/12/2015 08:41

Prices that go down over time rather than up. A good history of actually providing support when it is most needed. Bonuses for long term clients.

janeyf1 · 26/12/2015 08:41

I want to be able to trust the policy with no misleading small print, just want peace of mind with no big excesses

Savagebeauty · 26/12/2015 08:43

Sheila's wheels were very rude to me when I called about a policy earlier this year.
So I won't be approaching them when it's up for renewal.

Chopstheduck · 26/12/2015 08:49

lower prices for renewals, so that I don't have to shop around each time to get the best deal
