We’ve been asked by Sheilas' Wheels to find out what Mumsnetters want from their Car Insurance policy.

They say "we appreciate that Car insurance isn't something you think about every day, however, should you need it you want to know everything is covered."

So what would be your ideal car insurance policy? Should it include a number of complimentary car washes each year? Any extras to keep your family safe when motoring?

Whatever you’d like from your car insurance policy, Sheilas' Wheels would love to hear your thoughts and ideas. Who knows, you could help shape the future of car insurance?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks,

No or low excess
Foolproof documents
Good call centre with polite staff
Cheap insurance for loyal customers

lhlee62 · 26/12/2015 20:17

Best price, good renewal prices, I hate having to ring up and talk about leaving to get a better price. An easier way to get the insurance in the first place, having to fill out a million questions and decent garages would be nice. My car was hit before and it was only superficial damage, but they took over 2 weeks to fix it.

I'd love a policy that recognised I am in a low risk category and adjust premiums accordingly. Bizarrely when I left work to be a stay at home mum (which meant far less travel and only in safe areas), it ended up costing me more than when I worked and had to travel a route daily which was notorious for being hazardous! As such, policies should be more upfront about how premiums are calculated, and I would love an explanation as to why a stay at home parent is more 'risky' than a daily commuter! As for extras, I'd rather keep premiums as low as possible rather than have extra charges for so-called 'free' extras!

Maclairey · 26/12/2015 20:34

I just expect them to be upfront and honest, no hidden fees or charges, no dodgy exclusions. I expect them to be on the ball when I need them, to be prompt in sorting things out, knowledgeable and helpful in the phone and competively priced. So not much really Grin

freefan · 26/12/2015 20:34

I want one that has no excess, pays out promptly and will cover all ilnesses even long term ones

andreaca · 26/12/2015 20:44

My insurance renewals used to go go down every year, these days they go up even though I never put a claim in, its rediculous, I always shop around after getting it through the post, so they lose a customer every year by hiking the prices up. Id like my prices to go down when I havent made a claim, it would save all the hassle of looking around for a cheaper insurer.

merlymerly · 26/12/2015 21:09

Lower renewal premiums for loyal customers (instead of having to do a price comparison every year)

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 26/12/2015 21:09

I want a fast acting service if i should ever need them. A courtesy car, uk based call centres and really good renewal prices.

fazkin · 26/12/2015 21:36
  1. Uk call centre
  2. Better price for renewals without having to haggle every year
  3. Courtesy cars without the hassle
ozbird1 · 26/12/2015 21:37

Something that's not going to increase in price like this year when I haven't had any claims ! I should be rewarded, I don't understand why the price has increased so much

kimnews · 26/12/2015 22:01

I want a reasonable cover price with no unreasonable conditions that only come to light when making a claim. I want a courtesy car and windscreen cover as standard.

littleme96 · 26/12/2015 22:05

Better offers at renewal, not raising the cost for no reason. Loyalty should pay, not be taken advantage of.

UK call centres which aren't premium numbers.

No stupidly high admin fees for things such as name changes.

Easy and straightforward ways to claim, with any claim being paid out quickly and without hassle.

compy99 · 26/12/2015 22:49

lower premiums and getting a fair renewal quote, get fed up with companies only wanting new customers and not interested in repeat customers, it is a real pain having to shop around every year.

slbhill42 · 26/12/2015 23:59

skip the silly extras. Give me a low premium, a reasonable excess and confidence that if I have to claim it will be dealt with quickly and fairly.

CormoranStrike · 27/12/2015 08:56

I would love a policy that counts my named driver children's experience towards their own future policies.

I'd love a multi car discount.

I would love the online process of buying to be simple, especially to only compare identical policies.

I would live for insurance to be enforceable mandatory; in fact, scrap insurance (we all know that some people don't even bother buying it) and add it on as a tax on fuel. That way if you drive just 100 miles a year, you pay a tiny bit of insurance; if you drive 100,000 miles a year, or drive like a boy racer so use more fuel, you end up paying more on insurance.

prettybird · 27/12/2015 10:57

Just remembered something else that Sheila's Wheels is particularly guilty of Hmm: not charging extortionate amounts to change small details on the policy.

Other companies manage to do it for a no/small/nominal fee. In this digital age, when policies can be sent by email, there is no excuse.

CormoranStrike · 27/12/2015 11:01

And another thing, make claiming easy

VaseandCandle · 27/12/2015 11:34

Agree with all the other posters on competitive renewal quotes and a policy which it's a smooth process to claim on. I'm not interested in gimmicks which I wouldn't use.

sweir1 · 27/12/2015 11:52

A fair price for loyal customers rather than having to haggle and argue and switch every year

beckyinman · 27/12/2015 12:18

Rewards for customer loyalty

Debi32 · 27/12/2015 12:59

Reasonable price & fair play.

Marg2k8 · 27/12/2015 13:11

A reasonable price and a low excess that takes into account my many years of careful driving. I am lucky in that I have this with my current insurer.

JoJoY · 27/12/2015 13:17

All I need is good cover for a fair price and good staff to answer any queries and give help if I need it.

lexy444 · 27/12/2015 13:42

Easy to follow website, fair price renewals. Rewards for continued custom.

When we were involved in a car crash 2 years ago (thank god everyone was ok) but for us it was the speed of payout as we needed a new car, so what is important is either a replacement car straight away or a quick payout to buy a new one within a few days. Our insurance company were Amazing we would never change
