As part of their Good To Know campaign, McDonald’s have released three new videos to give a little bit more information on the ingredients they use in their products, and they’re keen to hear what Mumsnetters think. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be running threads about different McDonald’s foods.

McDonald’s say “We’ve launched our Good To Know campaign to provide our customers with more information on the quality of the ingredients we use in our products. Despite some common misconceptions, our Chicken McNuggets contain 100% chicken breast meat, fries are made from real, whole British spuds and 100% beef from whole cuts of forequarter and flank goes into a McDonald’s burger. Alongside the Good To Know website, we’re launching the three new videos you’ll see in Mumsnet threads over the next few weeks, and we’re really interested to hear your thoughts”

Please watch the 40 second video below:

Once you’ve watched the video please let us know:

  • What did you think of the overall message in the video?
  • Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?
  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?

Whatever your thoughts, McDonald’s would love to hear about them.

Everyone who adds a comment will be entered in to a prize draw, where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks & good luck,

MNHQ

I think McDonalds food is fine for an occasional treat. It was good to see that the nuggets were made from quality ingredients and that the chickens are well looked after.

  • What did you think of the overall message in the video?
I thought the video was a bit funny but rather cheesy too.
  • Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?
Not really. I think they're ok for convenience food and that didn't change.
  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
I visit it from time to time with my daughter
  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?
Not really fussed - it won't make me regard McDonalds as healthy but it won't stop me visiting occasionally either.
fazkin · 14/12/2015 21:20

I have the same sentiment as most above. A bit more facts about chicken and also more info on what other additives are added would be useful to change minds.

lhlee62 · 14/12/2015 22:16

I love the ad, I have always been one for everything in moderation so as long as you aren't in McDonalds everyday what does it matter if people go there occasionally. It makes me feel better seeing that the chicken is decent not the churned up stuff you sometimes see

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 14/12/2015 22:27
  • What did you think of the overall message in the video?

I thought it was good. It was reassuring to moms like me as we all think similar things especially regarding fast food i think.

  • Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?

It made me think more positively about them and think they are not as terrible as we are led to believe!

  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?

Already regular visitor!!

  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?

I might be interested to look in the future.

nazrana82 · 15/12/2015 00:41

i dont like processed food, im all for homecooked organic foods, macdonalds is NOT healthy. the advert was not informative on what theyre trying to get across...vague for me..

goose1964 · 15/12/2015 08:54

this implies rather than states that the nuggets are made out od breast meat, but there is no mention of what they add in the coating - would guess a highish amount of salt & colours not how they are cooked, I would still rather make my own

OnMyShoulders · 15/12/2015 10:06
  • What did you think of the overall message in the video?

I found it amusing. I like that McDonald's are confronting the myths around what's actually in the food. The message was fun and matter of fact.

  • Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?

I think I was already aware that it was chicken breast. I'd like to know more about the coating though. Why does the food all have the same smell and taste?

  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?

We've been but I don't like it. I hate the smell of McDonald's.

  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’sGood To Know websiteto find out more information?

No

sofieellis · 15/12/2015 10:25

Hmm, someone biting into a chicken nugget and deciding it tastes like chicken breast is hardly proof, is it? It would be better if MacDonalds had actually answered the questions about what their nuggets contain. The fact that they haven't done this actually makes me more suspicious about the contents, not less!

I've also seen lots of rumours about how their animals are treated and I would like to see MacDonalds address this issue too.

When I know for a fact that the chickens and other animals are treated humanely and that good quality ingredients are used in the food, then I might consider buying my kids a MacDonalds for tea occasionally.

Until then, I think really they have just fudged the issue with this advert, which is a shame, as it could have been an excellent way to get their point across.

cheryl100 · 15/12/2015 10:56

I enjoyed the video and thought it conveyed the message very well. I visit McDonalds quite regularly but did feel guilty thinking that I was feeding my son junk food...this video makes me feel much better!

Jocelynne123 · 15/12/2015 12:22
  1. I think that the video is trying very hard to get rid of the bad opinion of mcdonalds food.
  2. No because I was already aware that the nuggets were made from breast meat
  3. I already visit mcdonalds but it is as a treat
  4. No
sarah3875 · 15/12/2015 12:25

I think if you like them then anything in moderation. I bet there are worse things you could eat! It doesn't really change my opinion at all. We've all heard it and are entitled to make up our own minds. We probably eat a McDonalds once every 2-3 months so certainly not excessively in my opinion.

angiehoggett · 15/12/2015 12:52
  • What did you think of the overall message in the video?
I think it was definitely trying to get across that their food isn't as bad as what has been perceived in the media in the past.
  • Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?
I think it has a little but I would prefer my opinions to be based on both their facts and also facts that the company haven't divulged in this video!
  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
I would as a treat but I wouldn't consider it somewhere to take my children often.
  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?
Yes I would like to know more
Jezzamk · 15/12/2015 13:13

Didn't really change my perception of MacDonalds. I believe that the ingredients are what they claim. However, it is still not a healthy option.

Nothing wrong with MacDonalds as a treat now and again though.

In their defence I will say that their restaurants always appear to be clean and you can see into the kitchen area so you know what is going on.

lilmiztam22 · 15/12/2015 13:54

- What did you think of the overall message in the video?
I think it's targeting the parents instead of the children which I like; telling them the reality of the food is not as unhealthy as the media makes out

- Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?
^I didn't believe that they were made from anything but quality meat because they are actually delicious but still nevertheless unhealthy. I think in moderation Mcdonalds is a good thing and not as bad as some people presume.

- If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
^ I do visit Mcdonalds but this advert may make me feel a bit less guilty

- Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?
Yes, I would be interested to see what exactly is in the food, I love that Mcdonalds has this

Doublebubblebubble · 15/12/2015 14:04

My DD gets McDonalds as a treat. She very often doesn't eat it all she prefers burger king I get a big mac she gets nuggets.

Having said that McDonalds is not good for children - it just cant be- and a video made by said company isn't exactly going to go around bashing it, are they??

cookinmummy · 15/12/2015 14:05

I like the advert in terms of how it looks, but would have preferred something more factual in regards to the overall content of all elements of a happy meal.

My children do like a McDonalds meal as a special treat (usually when we are travelling).

Doublebubblebubble · 15/12/2015 14:06

we love mc'd's FOR BEING JUST WHAT IT IS!!! CRAP!!! GORGEOUS CRAP!

^this too!

topgunmatt · 15/12/2015 15:02

I think the chicken nugget scandal at MacDonald's opened up peoples eyes about what they eat

PhilTB54 · 15/12/2015 18:36

What did you think of the overall message in the video?

Reassuring to some extent. But I won't be buying or eating McDonalds any time soon.

Flossiecrossie · 15/12/2015 18:52

I'm afraid until they address some of the issues that concern me; antibiotics given to the chickens, conditions the chickens they survive in and if the meat is halal, I'll be staying away

happysouls · 15/12/2015 19:08

McDonalds is a rare, very rare thing for me. I usually go for really healthy options that are more satisfying to eat. McDonalds I think of overall as unhealthy and it gets cold so quickly you end up eating it too fast and then the pleasure is over. I say pleasure as I do think it tastes great but I prefer things that are good for me that I can spend longer over.

As for the quality, the video gives a bit of information, but not alot and it doesn't change my overall opinion of nuggets or McDs.

Kangakate · 15/12/2015 19:09

I liked it, would appeal to adults as well as kids, love the imagery and to be honest that's probably how people perceive it with all the stories that you read online. It didn't change my perception as I was happy withe the nuggets anyway and eat them myself, McDonalds would not be able to put that they are made from breast meat if they weren't as they are regulated.
My children already eat chicken nuggets and are happy with them, so our frequency won't change.
I have already been on their website

smit23 · 15/12/2015 19:56

I think the overall message is that we shouldn't be concerned about the ingredients that constitute a Chicken McNugget at McDonalds.

I'll admit that in the past I have been a bit concerned about whether they use the best chicken or not (not limited to McDonalds but all similar foods), so this video has reassured me and I don't have concerns about them in particular any more.

I used to love McNuggets but did stop eating them, so now I can go back to dunking them in ketchup happily :D

I will be clicking my way onto the website very shortly..

Thank you to McDonalds for such an informative video!

kirstykovacs1 · 15/12/2015 20:21

What did you think of the overall message in the video?
I thought the video was useful for anyone wanting to know whats in the nugget but would like to have heard more about where the chickens have come from.
Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?
It didnt as I already knew the nuggets were 100% breast meat.
If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
we visit occasionally and my youngest always has a nugget happy meal! I'm quite happy for him to do so as a treat one in a while. He really enjoys it!
Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?
Yes if there was something specific I wanted to find out, I'd happily use the website!
