As part of their Good To Know campaign, McDonald’s have released three new videos to give a little bit more information on the ingredients they use in their products, and they’re keen to hear what Mumsnetters think. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be running threads about different McDonald’s foods.

McDonald’s say “We’ve launched our Good To Know campaign to provide our customers with more information on the quality of the ingredients we use in our products. Despite some common misconceptions, our Chicken McNuggets contain 100% chicken breast meat, fries are made from real, whole British spuds and 100% beef from whole cuts of forequarter and flank goes into a McDonald’s burger. Alongside the Good To Know website, we’re launching the three new videos you’ll see in Mumsnet threads over the next few weeks, and we’re really interested to hear your thoughts”

Please watch the 40 second video below:

Once you’ve watched the video please let us know:

  • What did you think of the overall message in the video?
  • Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?
  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?

Whatever your thoughts, McDonald’s would love to hear about them.

Everyone who adds a comment will be entered in to a prize draw, where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks & good luck,

It wasn't very informative and therefore not very influential. Wouldn't make any difference to us whether or not to visit

Sallyannlloydjones · 06/12/2015 20:29

Easy to listen to and I think that the information will go some of the way to reassure consumers.
It does change my perception of chicken nuggets to an extent. It would be a help to know if the chickens free range.
I will be taking a look at the website.

apn1179 · 06/12/2015 20:33

I occasionally take my family to MacDonald's the chicken nuggets are nice and I don't mind them eating anything off the menu.

The video was ok and confirmed the content of the nuggets is 100% chicken

prwilson · 06/12/2015 20:38

It's a very clever video - challenging the perception of chicken nuggets.

I still don't think a McDonald's meal is balanced overall.

pixiewolfe · 06/12/2015 20:39

What did you think of the overall message in the video?
That Chicken nuggets are not left over bits of Chicken..just the tasty parts

  • Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?

No. MacDonalds like everything is not all bad. It is tasty and good for a treat, not for a daily meal.

  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
I eat mcdonalds. I wouldn't make a big deal out of it, or avoid it.
  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?
No. Not really.
Firewall · 06/12/2015 21:24

We like McDonald's, only going maximum once a month. Sometimes less than that as a treat. We always ask for no salt on fries as they are always over salted.

mickaul232 · 06/12/2015 21:36

why bring up negative things people say about McDonalds just tell about the good things

grannybiker · 06/12/2015 21:52

-What did you think of the overall message in the video?
Overall, the video is clearly trying to do a positive PR job

  • Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?
Not really, I already knew this
  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
Only go rarely as it annoys me there is no veggie options in the Happy Meals. This means if you have kids that badly want the toy because their friends have, you have to a) pay more for their meal and b) Pay extra for the toy! When I asked about this they suggested the fish fingers :(
  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?
Not really- If they think fish-fingers are a suitable veggie meal then I'm not sure I trust the rest of their propaganda!
robinson131 · 06/12/2015 21:54

The video is quite informative.I do believe Mcdonalds is ok every now and then for a treat.

lindseystuart85 · 06/12/2015 22:11

Well I enjoyed watching this video it reassured me that the food is not as bad as alot of people say and think
My family and I love having a mcdonalds after we have been away in town (which is not very often)
My little ones LOVE Chicken Mcnuggets and I LOVE it when they are not fit to eat them all ;)

Dencop · 06/12/2015 22:12

I find the video reassuring that it's not really 'Junk food' as some people put it. Like everything as love as you have it in moderation then good. This should help those parents who are made to feel like they are doing wrong for treating their kids.
Well done McDonalds

PurpleThermalsNowItsWinter · 06/12/2015 22:12

It's a brainwashing ad (as are their radio ads) without full information and a better knowledge of their food I'll stick to it being a 'once every now and then when we are in the car and need to eat' thing.

hannonle · 06/12/2015 22:16
  • What did you think of the overall message in the video?
Fairly positive. They nuggets are made from the nice parts of the chicken but I think we have to remember that it's still fried food. I didn't notice it saying where the hens are raised and what sort of farming conditions. The home-ec woman is a bit of an annoying comedy character! Surely they aren't her real glasses! I think she is fake.
  • Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?
Not really. I already knew they were chicken breast for a long time.
  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
Possibly because it's not really any less healthy than any other junk food. I'd have to drive for 40 mins to get to a McDonalds though so I doubt I'll be going!
  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?
I might if I was likely to be a regular customer but I'm not, so no.

I wonder what happens to all of the chicken leg/thigh meat? That's good too. And what's in the other chicken products?
I think we should be careful of marketing any junk food as being good, but I suppose they are just as healthy as the good quality frozen ones we might serve up at home.

clopper · 06/12/2015 22:39

I think the message is positive and it has changed my view about nuggets, although I wouldn't order them myself. My DC love macdonalds but I do limit them and we have it as a treat. I agree with other posters that how the chickens are farmed is important. I would rather pay a little more to have free range chicken.

oliveoyl72 · 06/12/2015 23:56

It's actually convinced me to give them another try - the last time I had them (years ago), it was that spongy reconstituted unpleasant stuff so I struck them off my mental menu.

thekiwibex · 07/12/2015 03:43

Let's be honest - McDonalds will never be the truly healthy/wholesome option, and I suspect that that's not what the majority of their customers care about (spoken as someone who eats McDonalds occasionally). When it comes to chicken nuggets, what I personally care about more than whether it is made from 100% chicken breast meat, is whether the chickens were free range, reared ethically etc.

Marg2k8 · 07/12/2015 08:16

The video has not changed my opinion about McDonalds. I still think it is ok for an occasional treat, so long as it is combined with a normal healthy diet.

lizd31 · 07/12/2015 08:54

It's actually rather good. Although I'm a vegetarian my family eat meat but I always thought chicken nuggets were full of nasty bits so this really puts my mind at ease

helly27 · 07/12/2015 09:10

Nice to see they are trying to improve their image, we use them once it a while so really wont change that but at the end of the day you still don't know what goes into anything unless you make it yourself

funkyfish586 · 07/12/2015 09:22
  • What did you think of the overall message in the video? - I do like the video - They are trying to give a good impression
  • Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how? Not really, unfortunately I am very wary of Mcdonalds and since watching 'Food Inc'
  • If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children? - Probably not
  • Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information? - no
phillie1 · 07/12/2015 09:34

advert didn't tell me anything I didn't know already. Like with most things, it's Ok in moderation

sweetsomethings · 07/12/2015 10:16

i really liked the video and think it taught me a few things about their products

Lariflete · 07/12/2015 10:34

What did you think of the overall message in the video?

I think the message is good, given that they are made out of 100% chicken. It provides reassurance that parents aren't feeding their children factory floor sweepings! I dislike the 'she knows what chicken breast looks like and tastes like' as hopefully that is not how people 'prove' things in the food industry!

Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?

It changed my perception in that I actually gave my children a Mcnugget Happy Meal last night as we were travelling home and they needed food. In the past, I would have waited until we could stop somewhere else to get them food.

If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?

Last night was the first time I've ever taken my 4 and 2 year old to McDonalds. It will also probably be the last, as they didn't like the taste of the nuggets, and when DH and I tasted them they tasted synthetic. I make Chicken Dippers and they don't taste anything like that! They may be 100% chicken breast, so I can give them to my DC without worrying about what's in them, but they don't taste nice so they wouldn't want them as a treat.

Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?

No, after tasting them I don't really care what was in them as probably won't be buying them much in future.

kazza1967 · 07/12/2015 10:45

I don't agree with the way that the video is presented. It assumes that everyone doesn't know a thing about nutrition and food quality.

ThomasRichard · 07/12/2015 11:28

- What did you think of the overall message in the video?
It was interesting but definitely about repositioning McDonalds as a brand.

- Did it change your perceptions of Chicken McNuggets at all? If so, how?
Yes. I used to try not to think to hard about what was in them. Now I don't need to worry about that.

- If you're not a current McDonald's visitor, having watched the video, do you think you'd now consider visiting McDonald's or visiting with your children?
Yes, I had a special day with DD on Saturday and she asked to go.

- Would you be interested in visiting the McDonald’s Good To Know website to find out more information?
Yes.
