Christmas is fast approaching so now is the time to make sure your home is looking fabulous and ready for all the guests and festivities. Valspar would love to hear how you’re planning to ensure your home wows this year.

Valspar says: “The home is at the heart of Christmas, it’s the place where friends and family gather to spend quality time together, so it’s the perfect time to give it a refresh to make sure it’s looking at its best. Valspar’s unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see, so whether you hope to spruce up the paint in the hallway in a shade to match a favourite fabric, or create a striking feature wall to match a festive bauble and complement your beautifully decorated Christmas tree, Valspar has it covered. Simply take a colour sample to your local B&Q and the exact shade can be matched in paint form.

Valspar’s super scrub formula also makes it perfect for busy family homes. After the party season, walls can be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour – so whether there’s been a gravy explosion or a cranberry sauce mishap, you don’t have to worry.”

So, do you have a particular colour scheme you're going for when it comes to prepping the home for Christmas? Perhaps you’re going for a neutral theme, with handpicked Scandinavian decorations? Or will you be keeping traditional and filling your home with reds, greens and golds? Maybe you plan to get crafty and make your decorations from scratch?

However you’re planning to decorate this Christmas, Valspar would love to hear about it!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

We have just finished repainting our kitchen dinner/come back room in readiness for christmas. Not really changed much in the way of furniture but its been given a good freshen up and de-clutter ready for the Christmas dec's and candles

jandoc · 24/11/2015 19:48

it's the usual decorations that we know and love, they look fab once they are all up and settled

itsali · 24/11/2015 20:53

I like traditional decorations in gem shades, warm lights, scented candles. I think it's a good idea to change some of the soft furnishings such as throws, cushion covers and so on, to warmer, richer colours that compliment the decorations. It all makes for a cosy, festive look.

We have had a big decluttering of toys & books which LO is very much involved in! We give him a big bag & we sort through together, any he doesn't play with any more he gives 'to the childen' (via our local charity shop!) - it's very cute & lovely that he is able to part with toys as I am not sure I would have been so willing when I was young!
Decorations wise - I get loads of new ornaments in the January sales each year so I have a loads purchased in Jan to get out & wow over! We have big chunky american style christmas lights over the fireplace - stars, trees & snowmen hung on door handle & hook & christmas ornaments on every available surface! A wall dedicated to Christmas cards is a new feature which I quite enjoyed last year, they were always falling down when I put them up on string!
Spiced apple room fragrance finished it off.. roll on Christmas! :D

Our theme this year is 'baby friendly' as she is just starting to get about!!

Oh and lots of natural things - pine cones, Holly wreaths - all our of reach!

VaseandCandle · 25/11/2015 07:44

Would love to say I have a theme but I don't. Same decorations each year and a random assortment of baubles. I'm not creative enough or have enough time or motivation for anything more.

Cocacolaandchocolate · 25/11/2015 11:30

I am constantly cleaning hoovering and mopping. As long as my children help to put up tree abd we make this years handmade decorations to go on it... Then I'm happy. Oh and maybe cook some gingerbread to give the place a lovely smell

LizB62A · 25/11/2015 11:58

We go to my parents for Christmas so won't be doing anything special at my house, apart from putting up the cards and the Christmas tree - everywhere you go is so over the top about Christmas, that's it's really nice and relaxing to come home to something more relaxed and understated :-)

moonray · 25/11/2015 13:23

We're renting a carpet cleaner to give our carpets a good old clean. Hubby's also giving a fresh coat of paint to our lounge and hallway ...and, of course we're gonna decorate our garden with twinkle lights and wreaths :-)

merlymerly · 25/11/2015 14:41

I have just decorated and repainted my hallway - walls and bannister- and it is now looking fresh and clean. I'm going to thread a garland through the bannisters, hang some baubles form the ceiling, add some seasonal scents with cinnamon sticks, pine cones and oranges, and have a basket by the door filled with crackers and sweets.

ReluctantCamper · 25/11/2015 14:43

Oh, I have just bought valspar metallic spray paint (2 for a tenner in B&q) to spray the twigs I have made into baubles for my outdoor tree

AGrinWithoutACat · 25/11/2015 14:52

New house but no central heating till Jan so we are not completing major decorating this year however we will be buying new decorations and as we now have lovely deep window sills have planned a small decorated tree for the one that faces the street.

The DCs love making paper snowflakes every year which go on the windows with a little bit of snow spray and our neighbours have a huge holly hedge which they have already OK'd us trimming Grin for garlands

Main Christmas thing is food so the house will smell of mixed space, chocolate and ginger all month as I love indulging with home cooked goodies

CMOTDibbler · 25/11/2015 15:01

We don't have a theme - I like the 'chuck box of decs at tree' method. Then lots of fairy lights

mumsbe · 25/11/2015 16:01

We have just decorated our living room brown and red with cream and grey. As for Christmas decorations we have pink silver gold and red. Thecchildren make some really colourful decoration around the house and thats more special than anything else.

TracyKNixon · 25/11/2015 16:40

We decorate our home with traditional decorations, including garlands, lanterns and a real pine tree. Our colour scheme is usually red and gold.Warm Winter throws and cushions make our home feel cosy and warm.

FawnDrench · 25/11/2015 18:48

No particular theme with us - just a motley and rather splendid array of assorted baubles, brightness, bobbles and bells, collected over the decades from far and wide.

BrandNewAndImproved · 25/11/2015 20:37

My flat has either purple or pink in every room except the kitchen which is red.

My decorations are silver, white, pink and purple plus a random one the dc choose each every year. Even my fairy lights are pink!

I'm thinking about getting a white tree to really set it off.

CandlesBurning · 26/11/2015 10:00

Living room, real green tree and traditional pale gold/ivory/red decorations, no tinsel!
Kitchen tree, white / red Scandinavian theme.

KittyKat88 · 26/11/2015 14:06

We prefer to have warm colours, so theme is normally red and gold for the tree and decorations around the house. We recently painted the chimney breast a warm peach/orange which really glows when we put the Christmas lights up around the mantlepiece!

We don't plan to redecorate before Christmas but will do in the new year - we'll stick to white as a 'blank canvas' but then use some colourful accessories and ornaments around the house for splashes of colour.

BrieAndChilli · 26/11/2015 14:20

We have red sofas so our xmas theme is red silver and White. Very Nordic and sparkly.

zarinebedford · 26/11/2015 15:08

We go Christmas Crazy & have a mix of colours [santa]

foxessocks · 26/11/2015 17:06

I'm going for red and gold this year with coloured lights for the tree. Nice and cheerful and jolly for my dd and all the family. But not too tacky hopefully!

mapmyface · 26/11/2015 18:14

I have a deep clean planned and then the decorations will go up.
We have an eclectic mix of Christmas decorations pre children along those special pre school homemade decorations.
Lots of lights, tinsel and glitter!
Every year I take the children to a pottery cafe so they can pick a new ornament or bauble each and paint it. I love getting them all out and seeing them all.
I love Christmas!

lucyrobinson · 26/11/2015 20:46

We have an artificial tree and I let the kids decorate it. I have a few christmas toys dotted around. They normally disappear by the 25th or they run out of batteries.

ouryve · 26/11/2015 21:42

The kid are beginning to take charge a bit. The theme this year looks like it's going to be sparkly electronic tat and tinsel barf.
