Christmas is fast approaching so now is the time to make sure your home is looking fabulous and ready for all the guests and festivities. Valspar would love to hear how you’re planning to ensure your home wows this year.

Valspar says: “The home is at the heart of Christmas, it’s the place where friends and family gather to spend quality time together, so it’s the perfect time to give it a refresh to make sure it’s looking at its best. Valspar’s unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see, so whether you hope to spruce up the paint in the hallway in a shade to match a favourite fabric, or create a striking feature wall to match a festive bauble and complement your beautifully decorated Christmas tree, Valspar has it covered. Simply take a colour sample to your local B&Q and the exact shade can be matched in paint form.

Valspar’s super scrub formula also makes it perfect for busy family homes. After the party season, walls can be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour – so whether there’s been a gravy explosion or a cranberry sauce mishap, you don’t have to worry.”

So, do you have a particular colour scheme you're going for when it comes to prepping the home for Christmas? Perhaps you’re going for a neutral theme, with handpicked Scandinavian decorations? Or will you be keeping traditional and filling your home with reds, greens and golds? Maybe you plan to get crafty and make your decorations from scratch?

However you’re planning to decorate this Christmas, Valspar would love to hear about it!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

The tree will be our usual mix of anything goes colours, the table will be gold & silver with a green/gold centrepiece.

Maiyakat · 23/11/2015 20:01

We don't have a colour scheme, it's a mish mash of everything! The Christmas tree gets a new decoration every year and they never match. My mum's Christmas tree still has decorations I made age 6!

ItsaTenfromSanta · 23/11/2015 20:04

The living room will be decorated in silver and white, along with the tree and the gift wrap.

The hall is decorated with gold

the dining room is decorated more traditionally, with colored lights and wooden decorations on the tree

Just need to scrub from top to bottom before we can get started on the christmas decs. I've treated myself to a window vac so the windows will hopefully be sparkling too:)

A bit of tinsel and some lametta and job's a good un Wink

clarem100 · 23/11/2015 20:51

a good tidy up and sort out of old toys

Cybertinker · 23/11/2015 21:43

We've just had our kitchen and bathroom painted. Cleaned down all the outside area and spent a day removing all the leaves from the garden - ready to host Christmas!

Kazzawazzawo0 · 23/11/2015 21:46

I'll be moving into a new house a week before Christmas, so I'll be happy if we have any decorations up! We'll probably make our own out of foil wrapping paper mainly. I prefer traditional colours like red and green, gold and silver.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 23/11/2015 22:00

Our colour scheme throughout the house is generally grey & white though we do have splashes of colour on the kitchen (red) and playroom (green).

For Christmas our decorations are all white & silver except for the DC's stocking which are red (of course).

I'm not keen on too much red and don't go for the traditional gold / green.
It's all quite minimal too - and the tree isn't allowed to be over 5 foot!!

pixelwife · 23/11/2015 22:27

I'm having a major declutter before Christmas. With two children, I am preparing for the influx of a million new toys so have to have a clear out so the house doesn't become a hoarder's dream! I also plan to accessorise my Christmas dinner table this year with lots of glitzy additions like a table runner, and napkin rings etc.

wileyfox · 23/11/2015 23:29

lots of white fairy lights and a real christmas tree with silver and white baubles

nicholalw · 23/11/2015 23:46

Always sweep and mop all the floors and also I love to get the skirting boards shining....it's something about this time of year where I want the floors to look clean!

phillie1 · 24/11/2015 09:19

Dec's up this weekend, so final big dust etc on Friday, as can't do much when all the decs go up

Firewall · 24/11/2015 09:48

We have a very neutral home but we always have a colour scheme on the tree. It used to be traditional red and gold, red and green, but more recently we have had light purple and silver and this year it's likely to be icy blue and silver.

We always do a good clean before the decorations go up!

lucyanntrevelyan · 24/11/2015 10:31

No particular colour scheme - we are more of the throw everything Christmassy up everywhere - it is not stylish but we don't care. I wanted to make a wreath last year but ran out of time so am determined to do something crafty this year, spending time on Pinterest looking at beautiful creations which I have absolutely no chance of ever replicating.

farhanac · 24/11/2015 10:47

Scandinavian

lindsaysss · 24/11/2015 11:11

I have already started sorting through each room and donating many items to charity/taking broken items to the dump. I have set myself 2 days in each room, first day to sort out/un-clutter then on the second day a deep clean.

shivbrown · 24/11/2015 11:53

We have Christmas baubles from the ceiling and then decorate all the windows with lights and the children have their own Christmas tree in their room to decorate how they wish :) We love Christmas its such a happy time of year I love it x

Oh and ofcourse we have our Santa Stop Here sign out the front x

mishknight · 24/11/2015 12:39

so excited as putting the tree and decorations up next weekend. The colour scheme is silver and love decorating the tree with my little girl, every year she makes a decoration to put on it so nice to get the previous ones she's made, out of the box

Embarrassed to say my decs are up. I always seem to start redecorating rooms from september onwards each year. Fresh coats of pain t in places etc. Rooms are all cream so not to bad to freshen up. Fresh pot pourri everywhere. My living room accessories are mainly blue and aqua. brand new cushions were bought last week of mix of blue and aqua and looking lovely now. I'm a bit obsessed with ensuring even my decorations match a rooms decor and would probably break out into a panic attack if i had multi coloured lights or baubles lol Even my tree is a deep blue with aqua and blue baubles and all ceiling and other decorations are aqua or blue. Is like going to the seaside lol All ready and just waiting to put the presents under the tree.

plantsitter · 24/11/2015 14:10

We like tinsel vomit as a christmas theme in our house.

Wipe clean walls sound great for when The Big Rewiring Project of 2016 is complete though.

paulaburnside114 · 24/11/2015 16:09

I love the soft toys that sing and dance. I have quite a collection now (much to the annoyance of my husband) My favourite is the soft Reindeer head that I got last year. It sings "It will be lonely this Christmas"

geezerbird44 · 24/11/2015 16:15

I have had a kitchen clean out and will be sticking with last years decorations as I have no spare cash this year 😑

jazzitup · 24/11/2015 17:23

Put the hoover over and spray an air freshner.

chrisfc99 · 24/11/2015 18:27

We have a green, red & gold colour scheme for Christmas. All our tree baubles are red or gold. I made felt Father Christmases in red and green and string them up as bunting across the mantlepiece.

Elfontheshelfiswatchingyou · 24/11/2015 18:57

This year we're having a Woodland theme in the living room with new tree decorations, lots of holly and ivy, owls, hedgehogs, deer, rabbits etc. on the tree and I'm hoping for new scatter cushions and throws.
