Christmas is fast approaching so now is the time to make sure your home is looking fabulous and ready for all the guests and festivities. Valspar would love to hear how you’re planning to ensure your home wows this year.

Valspar says: “The home is at the heart of Christmas, it’s the place where friends and family gather to spend quality time together, so it’s the perfect time to give it a refresh to make sure it’s looking at its best. Valspar’s unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see, so whether you hope to spruce up the paint in the hallway in a shade to match a favourite fabric, or create a striking feature wall to match a festive bauble and complement your beautifully decorated Christmas tree, Valspar has it covered. Simply take a colour sample to your local B&Q and the exact shade can be matched in paint form.

Valspar’s super scrub formula also makes it perfect for busy family homes. After the party season, walls can be wiped down and scrubbed clean without chipping or compromising the colour – so whether there’s been a gravy explosion or a cranberry sauce mishap, you don’t have to worry.”

So, do you have a particular colour scheme you're going for when it comes to prepping the home for Christmas? Perhaps you’re going for a neutral theme, with handpicked Scandinavian decorations? Or will you be keeping traditional and filling your home with reds, greens and golds? Maybe you plan to get crafty and make your decorations from scratch?

However you’re planning to decorate this Christmas, Valspar would love to hear about it!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

Well I LOVE Christmas and have already cut all of my orange slices & left them to dry on the radiator. I've made a wreath & rearranged my lounge in prep for the Christmas tree next week :)

Sellins · 23/11/2015 11:02

My home is my home and I will not do anything to spruce it up for others

BizziLiz · 23/11/2015 12:01

We repainted this summer with a warm neutral colour on the walls in our living room and enormous kitchen so I'm going to match the colours in our Christmas tablecloth (bought many years ago from Lakeland but still going strong as only used for Christmas Day and New Year's Day); which is dark green and dark blue tartan overlaid with small Christmas trees and picked out in muted gold. This happens to suit our crockery and cutlery and I'll buy napkins and make decorations to suit that colour scheme.

We go all out for xmas, the house looks like a grotto and we have about 3 different trees up altogether!

SugarMiceInTheRain · 23/11/2015 13:15

We're getting our long-awaited new kitchen worktops put in next week - they have desperately needed replacing since we moved in 8 years ago, but we finally bit the bullet and ordered them. Will be exciting to have the kitchen I want in place in the run-up as it's a hive of activity in December as I make homemade hampers for people in the family and some little homemade goodies for the kids' school teachers too.

Our living room is neutral, with cream/ gold curtains which shimmer when we add the Christmas lights and greenery. We tend to go for traditional Christmas colours of gold and red. I drape green garlands with pinecones, berries and cinnamon sticks over the piano and fireplace and finish it off with some fairy lights. The children's rooms tend to be more multi-coloured and they have a little tree upstairs which they cover with all sorts of weird and wonderful decorations.

Some areas of our house do need a fresh coat of paint but that'll have to wait til the new year! :-)

My eldest son has put up the decorations for me for the last couple of years. He always makes the place look amazing. Very artistic. It makes me feel so warm and happy to see him enjoy this as he suffers very badly with social phobia, ocd and depression. To see his face light up is all i want this xmas

I always make home made decorations, it's such a great way to get the family involved especially when it's so cold outside!

helly27 · 23/11/2015 13:50

We go traditional red golds and greens

happysouls · 23/11/2015 13:55

I have lots of fairy lights up all year round and 2 little trees! But this year I'm getting a full size artificial tree once more and I was thinking really hard about what I'd like in the way of decorations. I decided I wanted a nature theme so I have stars, pine cones and robins so far! Love them!

Lovewhereilive · 23/11/2015 14:22

Not a fan of themed trees, prefer the kids decs that they have made as they are very special and mean more to us than any shop bought decoration.

Like the Scandinavian wooden style decs too. And lots of reindeers and candles.

rachelmi · 23/11/2015 14:37

The hall will need a quick lick of paint and the grouting on the floor tiles need a bit of elbow grease and the windows a wash! Before all the decorations get put up.

julieef · 23/11/2015 15:05

we have the main tree in the living room along with loads of musical toys and ornament boxes.
in the conservatory we have a Disney tree along with the polar express and some light up reindeer sleighs, then in the hall we have my grand daughters Disney tree

K1ttenp1e · 23/11/2015 15:13

We are going for a home made christmas, nothing matches but everything has a story to it.

NotWeavingButDarning · 23/11/2015 15:21

We do a sort of Tiffany's blue and silver and driftwoody type thing. We live on the coast.

We always decorate on the first weekend in December. Love it.

pockledigg · 23/11/2015 15:29

Lots of fairy lights, glitter and metallic spray paint works for us. Chaotic but with it's own beauty!

maureen3733 · 23/11/2015 15:31

i fill each room with scented candles and light them each nite.

FlopIsMyChristmasGuru · 23/11/2015 15:34

I really want a paired back white scandi style scheme with a focus on natural materials too.

However my DC love colour - the brighter the better. My compromise is to go for brighter colours but using more natural materials where possible.

The dining room however is going to be my haven of white Grin

devito92 · 23/11/2015 16:06

A warm mauve colour is my choice

jenniwren12 · 23/11/2015 16:18

I think we're going to go traditional this year such as red and gold, although I don't know how successful it will be with 2 brand new puppies in the house

sam2kids1 · 23/11/2015 17:01

im going with blue and silver a little like frozen style for my girls

cagsd · 23/11/2015 18:47

We've just ordered 2 new interior doors to replace the "short term / temporary" ones we put up 17 years ago Blush so I'm hoping our house will look spruced up for Christmas! We also plan to paint the chimney breast wall in the living room to ring the changes a bit. Hopefully that will get done this week as we have some spare time, which will be thin on the ground by December!

As regards Christmas decs: I keep it simple in the front room with shades of gold, bronze and brown. In the back room however anything goes: coloured lights, multi-coloured decorations, things the kids have made!
Doing it that way satisfies both my nostalgic, traditional side, and my tidy, everything-matching side!

mumtowoo1 · 23/11/2015 19:08

Just a good clean round, deep clean the fridge/freezer and cooker all ready for the christmas cooking.

Crown · 23/11/2015 19:30

We will be cleaning the house from top to bottom, hanging festive decorations, lighting scented candles and doing some festive baking.

Dreamiesrcatopium · 23/11/2015 19:32

We've got a very neutral themed home, so our Christmas decorations have always Ben gold and cream. However this year I have been making a surprise vintage theme Christmas eve box for my friend. I've come across so many gorgeous vintagey decorations! I couldn't help myself I have changed my theme! I've got hessian bunting with red on, with matching stockings, and red, white and gold vintagey everything else! I'm so excited to get it all up!!

Marg2k8 · 23/11/2015 19:46

I don't go overboard sprucing up the house for Christmas, just a tree, a few decorations and some festive tablewear.
