Ahead of the festive season the Lidl team at #SchoolofChristmas would love to hear your top tips for tipples at Christmas (either on the day, at a party or for friend/ relations visits etc).

VDd28

Do you make a mean cocktail? Get the advocat out or create fun mocktails for the drivers? How about special twists on coffees or a warming hot chocolate after a long walk with family?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where 5 Mumsnetters will each win a £50 Lidl voucher.

thanks and good luck

We have Bucks Fizz with breakfast - Kedgeree for the meaters and veggie version for me

Then a champagne cocktail before Christmas dinner.

Finish off the champagne after dinner and clearing up when we sit down and do the presents.

Can't wait Xmas Grin

Mulled cider or Irish cream & orange liqueur over ice, Black Forest or berry vodka (on which I would spend the voucher if I won Grin) with ginger beer is something very special - I call it the 'forest mule'.

Wonkyparsnip · 27/11/2015 05:31

Gin with pink grapefruit juice and a little sugar. Served in a martini glass.

SuzCG · 27/11/2015 10:16

Hot chocolate for the kids (with all the trimmings) and coffee with added Bailey's for Mum & dad when we get back from crisp & cold winter walks - simply the best!

PhoebeMcPeePee · 27/11/2015 14:50

Ginger Martinis: add a handful of sliced fresh ginger to a bottle of vodka a week or more in advance. 250ml ginger vodka, 150ml Cointreau 150ml sugar syrup and juice of 5 limes - serve with slivers of chilli Grin

flozza42 · 28/11/2015 01:06

Has to be mulled wine of course or a port with some cheesy nibbles

badgermum · 28/11/2015 16:46

For our pre Xmas Part for friends we have a pan of mulled wine and a pan of mulled cider on the go, We also like to have winter cocktails and non alcoholic cocktails in a big glass bowl for people to help themselves to

EmNix · 28/11/2015 16:56

Have lots of ice crushed and stored in a tub in the freezer. Then you are ready to make lots of lovely cocktails. Passion fruit mojitos are a good Christmas cocktail.

hazelangell · 28/11/2015 18:52

Hot chocolate with a tot of Whisky on Christmas Eve night is a favourite when we get in from midnight mass.

MyPinkCouch · 28/11/2015 20:46

Lidl's Blood orange and Cranberry Presse from the Deluxe range mixed with vodka and ice

angiesandhu1 · 28/11/2015 21:33

Love some prosecco-yum

Dessallara · 28/11/2015 22:19

Baileys hot chocolate :)

fazkin · 28/11/2015 23:51

We have all the non alcoholic look alikes around

llynnnn · 29/11/2015 00:51

Over Christmas we like to go for a walk through the woods, taking two flasks of hot chocolate with us... One for the kids complete with a separate pot of marshmallows to sprinkle on top, and one for us with a cheeky drop of baileys in...Grin just the job while out in the fresh air!

lucieloos · 29/11/2015 08:14

We make our own raspberry vodka. Fresh raspberries soaked in vodka and sugar. It's become a Christmas tradition!

goose1964 · 29/11/2015 08:45

I make a mean cosmopolitan for adults, and the children get the same glass but with a cranberry & orange juice mix

cookinmummy · 29/11/2015 09:37

Plenty of Prosecco in the house just in case for all those unexpected christmas guests. Fizz says Christmas :-)

marshgirl · 29/11/2015 10:38

A Snowball goes down very easily at Christmas.

Bostin · 29/11/2015 12:35

Champagne or prosecco with frangelico (hazelnut) liqueur in. My favourite tipple.

cluckyhen · 29/11/2015 15:23

We always make a big vat of homemade mulled wine, heated it always goes down a treat and it smells absolutely gorgeous. This year we are also making wine and beer!

unadulterateddad · 29/11/2015 15:53

definitely mulled wine in the slow cooker, has to be decent wine too otherwise it tastes awful.

For the non alcohol drinkers and kids, hot chocolate made with Jersey gold top milk and nutella (or similar) makes a fabulously indulgent hot choc

iwantgin · 29/11/2015 16:44

I like champagne. In a glass.

Do fancy the champagne cocktail though, drank many on one recent (memorable) holiday.

Tip for gin and tonic or just tonic - freeze segments of limes and lemons to act as ice and slice.

iwantgin · 29/11/2015 16:45

I miss Black Beer :(

A glass of black beer and lemonade was my childhood Xmas ;)

BlackCatSleeps · 29/11/2015 18:55

I've just read someone else posting mulled wine made in the slow cooker and that was what I had come here to say. Fabulous and stays warm for top ups! I'm less choosy about the wine though and think you can get away with relatively inexpensive wine. Might go and make some now!

windowmouse · 29/11/2015 21:06

I love a baileys hot chocolate on a cold winter evening
