Ahead of the festive season the Lidl team at #SchoolofChristmas would love to hear your top tips for tipples at Christmas (either on the day, at a party or for friend/ relations visits etc).

VDd28

Do you make a mean cocktail? Get the advocat out or create fun mocktails for the drivers? How about special twists on coffees or a warming hot chocolate after a long walk with family?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where 5 Mumsnetters will each win a £50 Lidl voucher.

thanks and good luck

lots of mulled wine on the go to keep the festive spirit up!

cazzzie987 · 18/11/2015 19:50

Baileys with lots of ice or frozen cocktails.

Hevster78 · 18/11/2015 19:55

Not very exciting but we treat ourselves to a bottle of gin and a bottle of port over the Christmas period - yum!

cookie09 · 18/11/2015 19:55

Buy lots and lots when they are on offer and plenty of juices that you can mix with them.. always a variety of tipples in the house then for when you have guests.

Irish coffee is lovely to warm you up :)

pennwood · 18/11/2015 20:41

I make a bowl of punch with fruit floating in it which always goes down well. Lidl alcohol is great value & quality s there is something for everyone without breaking the bank.

alsproject · 18/11/2015 20:46

We find that mulled cider is a great tipple for the Christmas period. We boil some of it until the alcohol evaporates so that the teenager can have a little

mave · 18/11/2015 20:48

Prossecco or mulled wine!! I'm partial to a dry cider too!

daisyduck123 · 18/11/2015 20:55

I experiment with non alcoholic punches. Ginger beer, lime and lots of fruit is good

I love an appletini. It is a drink which many places do wrong. Some put the cinnamon all around the rim making it undrinkable rather than sprinkling it on top. A good Appletini is amazing, so warm, perfect during winter.

LeeR1985 · 18/11/2015 21:49

Galaxy hot chocolate with marshmallows, cream and chocolate sprinkles. Occasionally put a bit of mint syrup in there too.. It's amazing

buckley1983 · 18/11/2015 21:55

I love spiced apple juice - a non-alcoholic version of mulled wine :) A carton of apple juice heated up on the stove, add in some cloves, a cinammon stick & a mulled wine spice bag & enjoy! Quick, cheap, simple & delicious! :) One the kids can enjoy too!

freefan · 18/11/2015 22:00

cocktails is the way to go, not too strong, but nice, light and refreshing

Clairescottshug · 18/11/2015 22:03

A cheeky snowball (advocaat and lemonade) goes down a treat especially with a cherry on top

pinklady123456 · 18/11/2015 22:12

Always have mulled wine on the go and some irish liquer. Never known anyone who likes a tipple to say no to these!

Cailin7 · 18/11/2015 23:12

Hot spiced cider is a favourite on christmas eve

compy99 · 19/11/2015 08:19

we just have lemonade and lime, we don't drink alcohol.

Millcroft · 19/11/2015 09:04

Melted chocolate in a pan, whisked cream, marshmallows, fudge pieces, all in a tall glass. Heaven.

Dolallytats · 19/11/2015 09:05

I don't drink alcohol, so I usually have something like Shloer. What I do like is to get up on Boxing Day, when the main day has finished and it's quieter, and have a nice hot chocolate in peace! The children usually stay in bed a bit longer because of the early Christmas day start and all the excitement has worn them out. Half an hour, just for me before they (and DH) get up and they want to play with their toys Smile

mumtowoo1 · 19/11/2015 10:49

After christmas dinner I love trying to make a Calypso Coffee with my husband (Coffee, Tia Maria and Cream) we have yet to make it with the cream perfect on top but it still taste's great.

sweir1 · 19/11/2015 11:27

You can't beat a good eggnog

pfcpompeysarah · 19/11/2015 14:50

Have a bottle of Baileys handy, its great with hot chocolate or coffee, and can be used with desserts too as a side topping, yummy!

helly27 · 19/11/2015 15:37

Cranberry Prosecco made with cranberry puree and sweet Prosecco

fm201069 · 19/11/2015 16:44

my mother in law always mixes advocaat at christmas. only time she ever does it.

clarem100 · 19/11/2015 20:22
