Ahead of the festive season the Lidl team at #SchoolofChristmas would love to hear your top tips for tipples at Christmas (either on the day, at a party or for friend/ relations visits etc).

VDd28

Do you make a mean cocktail? Get the advocat out or create fun mocktails for the drivers? How about special twists on coffees or a warming hot chocolate after a long walk with family?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where 5 Mumsnetters will each win a £50 Lidl voucher.

thanks and good luck

Sherry - tasty and cheap because it's not fashionable.

moesha123 · 18/11/2015 01:30

slow cooker mulled wine yummy!!

BigGreenOlives · 18/11/2015 03:55

I like prosecco and champagne. Mind you I like them any time of the year. My dc like hot chocolate with whipped cream & mini marshmallows.

kazza1967 · 18/11/2015 05:24

Hot mulled cider. Get a good cider and put in a pan with cinamon stick, 2 cloves, slices of fresh orange and gently warm through.

I am not a great drinker but we always have Port, Champagne, Pimms (well Jeeves actually) over the Christmas period. I provide lots of fresh drinks from carbonated water, juices, tomato juice, hot chocolate etc

Laineyflo · 18/11/2015 06:39

We don't really drink very much anymore, but I can never say no to a glass of mulled wine!

janeyf1 · 18/11/2015 06:50

We always get Babycham - a family tradition passed down from my parents. It always reminds me of them and it is cheap but cheery

hiddenmichelle · 18/11/2015 07:06

Coffee with baileys! Always an after dinner winner!

RumAppleGinger · 18/11/2015 07:30

See user name above.

Generous measure of spiced rum. One part apple juice one part ginger beer or ginger ale depending how much of a kick you like.

devito92 · 18/11/2015 07:59

A great tipple is Kir royal a cheap alternative is with Presecco

jt75 · 18/11/2015 08:17

Pear juice is very popular for those who don't drink alcohol.

finleypop · 18/11/2015 08:17

If you are worried about getting lot's of different drinks in for people to choose, have a theme so that you only need to buy a few ingredients. Martinis for example, in a couple of flavours. You could make a few pitchers of cocktails, to save keep making individual ones

Ganne1 · 18/11/2015 08:27

Vodka and limoncello. Lovely!

AnimalAddict · 18/11/2015 08:30

Hot chocolate mixed with Baileys, it's so delicious! :)

PjDay · 18/11/2015 08:41

Cranberry gin fizz is the festive tipple of choice in our house.
15ml of cranberry gin in a champagne flute topped up with prosecco.

Homemade cranberry gin... I used lidl's gin, 300g of cranberries and 200g sugar. All placed in a steralised glass jar, shake daily until the sugar dissolves then twice a week for three weeks. Strain and bottle.

Mulled Wine. Its warming, not that alcoholic, and smells of Christmas

phillie1 · 18/11/2015 09:00

Stire wine, lemonade etc in garage, so always have cold stuff ready

lizd31 · 18/11/2015 09:08

I like to make punch, both alcoholic & non-alcoholic versions

maryandbuzz1 · 18/11/2015 09:15

Make a huge punch and have plenty of non alcoholic drinks for the drivers.

BizziLiz · 18/11/2015 09:51

Buck's fizz for breakfast on Christmas morning, with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs! The children have orange juice with sparkling water so they don't feel left out.

sweetsomethings · 18/11/2015 10:04

jodiecrossley1 · 18/11/2015 10:12

love making raspberry prosecco cocktails with pureed raspberries and sugar- yum!

beckyinman · 18/11/2015 10:17

Christmas pudding vodka, you put fruit, spices and some sugar in a bowl then cover in vodka for a week. Then you can drain of the liquid and bottle it and use the fruit for some boozy mincemeat

NoisyOyster · 18/11/2015 10:38

Amaretto and Coke!! Tastes just like the old fashioned Dr Pepper drink mmmmmmmm

(Retro) Xmas Grin

easter1965 · 18/11/2015 10:40

We started to make our own each year and pop them away for Xmas and you can make bottles of wine for around 50p each, we still buy some like Bailey's and Whisky but Martini and wine are so nice to make too
