Snazaroo have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters’ Halloween face painting tips are.

Here’s what they say, “Letting children just be children, to play, run and imagine is important for every parent and a little face paint can transform everyday play into a magical world of make-believe.

"Sometimes face painting can be tricky but we’re here to help. We’re always thinking of easy ways for you to create designs children love. As they turn to see who is in the mirror, the magic shared will be remembered long after the paint has been rinsed away.

"Go on, paint a smile and see what happens”

So, what face painting tips or designs do you have to share with other Mumsnetters for the spookiest time of year? Maybe you have an easy three step design to transform your DC into a vampire? Perhaps you've got that skeleton look down pat or are good at turning out mini monsters or weeny witches? Also, is there anything in particular you enjoy about face painting? Is it the creativity of it? Or seeing how much your DCs enjoy it? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

It would be particularly great if you could also post a picture on this thread of your Halloween face painting prowess Grin

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

Cobwebs and dripping blood work a treat

PhilTB54 · 20/10/2015 20:55

Cobwebs and blood streaks work well

dandanrawlings · 20/10/2015 20:56

Snazaroo is the best face paint, and always seal the paint, otherwise it will go everywhere

PhilTB54 · 20/10/2015 20:58

Cobwebs and blood work a treat and don't take too long either.

morethanacondiment · 20/10/2015 21:01

We've used Snazaroo face paints in the summer for our village parade, and are looking forward to trying out our new sample later this month Grin
We definitely learnt some lessons in the summer, especially about using YouTube guides so that you can do it as quickly as possible, and having baby wipes handy in case of disaster!

Pumpkins and spiders are the simplest

Gill81uk · 20/10/2015 21:31

I'm not very creative so pumpkin is my favourite. Do the whole face orange, and then black shapes around eyes, mouth and nose :D

I get my husband to do it as I'm completely useless at face painting. The best I can do is a white face for a ghost!

I get inspiration from youtube and use those foam make up sponges to apply the base.

DS2 asks to be 'paint-faced' with whatever bizarre imaginative thing he has most recently dreamt up. I always google image search it for ideas, though you do need to be prepared that you might get pictures of a 43 y.o. man who likes dressing up :)

We don't do Halloween and my younger kids are pretty scared of all the stuff in the supermarket :-( However they always go to a Light Party at the local church instead and the theme differs each year. The main thing with face painting children is to not take it too seriously and enjoy doinging it! I find that no matter how well or badly I do it, the kids don't notice or mind and they are happy with whatever I manage to do! We keep it all smiles and a bit of fun! It's good to have a picture off the Internet or a book to copy if you are trying something ambitious too!

Make it simple, you don't need to be a great artist to make your kids look great.

jamielmdjs · 20/10/2015 22:57

Don't go too elaborate. Plain full face colour change, then a little detailing is a good starting point (whiskers, scars, other easy marks).

jamielmdjs · 20/10/2015 23:01

Don't over-elaborate. Start simple. Full face colour change, then a few detailing (easy marks like whiskers or scars). Get the basics, then try more elaborate next time.

I had a friend who painted his face red and took a mouthful of custard - when someone asked him what he was he squeezed his head, spat out the custard and said "I'm a zit!"
Maybe not ideal for a 4 year old, but big kudos from any teenagers!

Join your children, and paint your face too !!
It can give your child greater confidence to see their parents joining in and having fun :)

Good quality face paints are a necessity - then practice, practice, practice. The look on their 'faces' when they see the end product x

myboycraig · 21/10/2015 08:32

Try to keep it simple & don't stress too much on perfection. I think You Tube is great for extra help

joanf · 21/10/2015 09:08

Do your best and do not worry, the kids will love it anyway.

FUZZ62 · 21/10/2015 09:27

My tip is to let the child have a go themselves, last time we face painted (at Camp Bestival!) we just let them go free and use their imagination. They felt so proud of what they had achieved themselves!

Pimmpom · 21/10/2015 09:39

I am absolutely useless at anything art related but even I could follow youtube tutorials :)

MichelleMumsnet · 21/10/2015 10:13

Thank you everyone for sharing your tips. Congratulations to textbook who has won the prize draw for a £300 Love2Shop voucher! We'll be in touch soon.
