Snazaroo have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters’ Halloween face painting tips are.

Here’s what they say, “Letting children just be children, to play, run and imagine is important for every parent and a little face paint can transform everyday play into a magical world of make-believe.

"Sometimes face painting can be tricky but we’re here to help. We’re always thinking of easy ways for you to create designs children love. As they turn to see who is in the mirror, the magic shared will be remembered long after the paint has been rinsed away.

"Go on, paint a smile and see what happens”

So, what face painting tips or designs do you have to share with other Mumsnetters for the spookiest time of year? Maybe you have an easy three step design to transform your DC into a vampire? Perhaps you've got that skeleton look down pat or are good at turning out mini monsters or weeny witches? Also, is there anything in particular you enjoy about face painting? Is it the creativity of it? Or seeing how much your DCs enjoy it? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

It would be particularly great if you could also post a picture on this thread of your Halloween face painting prowess Grin

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Design and practice the face you want first rather than diving in

finleypop · 12/10/2015 08:38

If you are not confident, then give stencils a go

Ataraxy · 12/10/2015 08:39

I'm afraid the only thing I can muster is a basic cat. Which is a shame as DS1 used to find face painting so relaxing he usually falls asleep. Although DS2 (7) refuses to have his done now after requesting a spider while at nursery then being terrified at the result. Oh well.

pockledigg · 12/10/2015 08:40

Just paint it orange with black bits around eyes & mouth. Hey presto-a Pumpkin!

shawbarbara · 12/10/2015 08:40

I dont usually buy face paints and use my make up and it works just as well

cookinmummy · 12/10/2015 08:48

My tip is give yourself plenty of time! I've had many rushed halloween make up experiences with my 3. If you arent in a rush you can take your time with a steady hand x

Practice makes perfect!

jeniferlack · 12/10/2015 09:01

I always find watching YouTube tutorials really helps, I'd be a terrible face painter without it! :)

southernsun · 12/10/2015 09:07

Sketch out the design on paper a few times first so that when it comes to painting it on a face it is as quick and easy as possible.

phillie1 · 12/10/2015 09:08

get help from youtube

amandamcg123 · 12/10/2015 09:11

My tip would be leave it for someone else. I am hopeless at it.

raindaisy · 12/10/2015 09:17

My son loves Halloween we don't buy costumes we make them in this one he wanted to be a skeleton so I used snazaroo black and white face paint plus used some of the white on black clothing to make some bones. He carries a water gun for his trick and half a skull for the treats which has two holes and he wiggles his fingers like worms which he has painted brown lol We also do zombies where we use green brown and red with a little grey to make him look dirty. Use old clothes that you can rip and tear and dirty up. whats good with Snazaroo is its gentle on skin and washes off so easily and out of clothing.

funkyfish586 · 12/10/2015 09:45

I would advise testing the colour first on an arm before applying it to a face. My son had a minion face paint which involved painting his face completely yellow. We couldn't really get it all off & for a few days he looked a bit jaundice :)

pgwynne · 12/10/2015 10:09

Keep it simple - I just used very pale snazaroo face paint on daughters face followed by black eye shadow around her eyes. That way it is easier to wipe of afterwards.

I would test out the face paint on a small patch of skin before putting it all over your little ones face, just in case they have an allergic reaction

hiddenmichelle · 12/10/2015 10:45

Choose a simple design - especially if you have kids that do not like sitting still for long! Simple is usually more effective as I think too much detail can get "lost" and the impact is nor as good...have fun!

devito92 · 12/10/2015 10:51

A clean face and some moistureiser on to keep skin healthy

gamerwidow · 12/10/2015 10:53

My DD loves to paint me and DH's face. Sometimes it doesn't matter about technique it's just fun t mess about with.

julieef · 12/10/2015 11:06

you do not have to use expensive face paints, just buy the basic colours you want,

I use simple designs as I am not that great at art and my children are impatient for me to finish!

dorsetsgem · 12/10/2015 11:29

keep it simple. it will get worn off after a while , especially if apple bobbing

Laineyflo · 12/10/2015 11:39

Let the kids do it, they have great fun. Ok, it might look a bit of a mess but at least they can get creative!

lizd31 · 12/10/2015 11:52

Always do a patch test to make sure the kiddies aren't allergic before you go painting their faces

Clairescottshug · 12/10/2015 11:56

I use Pinterest to look up pictures or use you tube for tutorials

nolene15 · 12/10/2015 12:26

My best tip is to use vaseline before applying the face paints forming a barrier between the skin and the paint and vaseline to remove it after
