Snazaroo have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters’ Halloween face painting tips are.

Here’s what they say, “Letting children just be children, to play, run and imagine is important for every parent and a little face paint can transform everyday play into a magical world of make-believe.

"Sometimes face painting can be tricky but we’re here to help. We’re always thinking of easy ways for you to create designs children love. As they turn to see who is in the mirror, the magic shared will be remembered long after the paint has been rinsed away.

"Go on, paint a smile and see what happens”

So, what face painting tips or designs do you have to share with other Mumsnetters for the spookiest time of year? Maybe you have an easy three step design to transform your DC into a vampire? Perhaps you've got that skeleton look down pat or are good at turning out mini monsters or weeny witches? Also, is there anything in particular you enjoy about face painting? Is it the creativity of it? Or seeing how much your DCs enjoy it? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

It would be particularly great if you could also post a picture on this thread of your Halloween face painting prowess Grin

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

wow you lots are all very clever.
I'll be using some of your ideas at Halloween.

My 2 love face paint but they can't have it anywhere near their eyes.

Partybugs · 15/10/2015 19:12

It's all about the brush!

HelenSw4les · 15/10/2015 20:13

I'm no artist but black cats are so easy to do and my girls love being cats so that makes life easy!

Cocacolaandchocolate · 15/10/2015 21:08

Pinterest, stay calm, and less is more.

Oh and baby wipes!!

fifimummy · 15/10/2015 22:44

I'm fairly rubbish at facepainting, but had a tip from a friend to use a black line, with lines across (think Monster High Style)...It's sooooo effective and easy to do....could be adapted to boy and girl & this won her the sweet bcket prize at her Halloween disco :D

White base. Then spider on the cheek, bit of blood dripping from the mouth and a few scars should do the trick. Preferably on top of a white background

princesssmitheee · 16/10/2015 03:35

Use pinterest x

GloGirl · 16/10/2015 10:42

I mixed white face paint with my normal foundation to make it a bit easier to put on. It gave me a ghastly palour and I greyed out areas with black eye shadow.

Some of the pics on here are great!!

Cambam2010 · 16/10/2015 11:10

Always use a damp sponge to apply paint to large areas. Simple can often look really effective. Nice white base for a skull and then some black 'hollow' looking eyes, extended mouth with crooked teeth and a spritz of white hairspray to finish off the look. Minimal outlay for an effective look.

marsiettina · 16/10/2015 17:46

There are plenty of tips how to apply face paint online. Plus the Snazaroo kit has a booklet with an easy to follow photo guide.
My main tip is not to put the face paint too close to the eyes, as you need to be able to clean it off easily.
I just played around with the face paint and I don't think I did a bad job.

Keep it simple.

Wait until after eating so it lasts longer!!

I am hopeless at this kind of thing and daub hopelessly at the poor kids faces. I let them have their revenge though and they dab equally hopelessly at my face in return. We all end up looking a right state but have a lot of fun

oliveoyl72 · 16/10/2015 23:44

I've been the 'nominated' face painter at a few parties as I'm quite good at it - the best tip I have is to keep your painting arm steady by either keeping your elbow on a table, or if that's not possible, position your other arm on the person you are painting's shoulder, and use that as a make-shift rest. Makes it so much easier and tidier when you use an 'anchor'.

CleverPlansAndSecretTricks · 17/10/2015 09:25

I love snazaroo and have had my trusty facepainting box for about 20 years. My tip would be to get a really good snazaroo brush and a large cosmetic sponge, then it is super easy to create any face you like with a bit of help from google images. Id love my top Halloween face to be a vampire or a skeleton, but kids always want batman.

starsfishsand · 17/10/2015 09:41

My tip for face painting, is lots of brushes!! Change the brushes with the colours and use different thickness of brushes for different things, I find thinner brushes so much easier to use. And don't try and make it into a master piece, kids don't care how perfect it is and they haven't got the patience to sit there while you spending hours trying to perfect your master piece. It's all fun X

BeeMyBaby · 17/10/2015 10:17

I'm another person who prefers to make the children into cats, if you do a white background then it looks a bit more spooky but DD2 tends to get scared easily so I do t like to make anything too scary.

gamerwidow · 17/10/2015 11:00

This is me and dd ready for the school Halloween disco. I like simple designs we improvise because my techniques not great.

Last year we had a birthday hallowwen party with lots of face painting we found it best to use the lighter colours first and be sure to let the paint dry in between coats, Use your 'Clean' fingers. as the natural oils on your skin help spread the paint quickly and evenly, we found that a lot of the paints were quite thick, so dip your brush, or whatever you are using it a small amount of water before placing it in the paint, Just be sure it isn’t so wet it drips down the face! For witches Puffed rice make ideal warts and if you want some horrible pussy boils use bubble wrap stuck on the the skin and painted . . . Gross!!

OrdinarySoup · 17/10/2015 12:58

Skeleton pirate 2014! Dead simple (excuse the pun). White face, dry sponge black eyes and mouth then paint mouth detail. Maleficent this year...

happysouls · 17/10/2015 15:58

I think Halloween has to be the easiest one of all! With a good box of face paints even the least artistic or steady handed person can create a decent zombie or witch, so my tip would be to just get stuck in and see what happens. There's no need to complicate things by trying to follow any particular guide!

Copy images step by step off you tube . Don't over complicate things when they are young and by the time they turn into teenagers they will be doing it themselves !

faybelle · 17/10/2015 17:22

keep it simple, my kids can't wait to see finished design
