Snazaroo have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters’ Halloween face painting tips are.

Here’s what they say, “Letting children just be children, to play, run and imagine is important for every parent and a little face paint can transform everyday play into a magical world of make-believe.

"Sometimes face painting can be tricky but we’re here to help. We’re always thinking of easy ways for you to create designs children love. As they turn to see who is in the mirror, the magic shared will be remembered long after the paint has been rinsed away.

"Go on, paint a smile and see what happens”

So, what face painting tips or designs do you have to share with other Mumsnetters for the spookiest time of year? Maybe you have an easy three step design to transform your DC into a vampire? Perhaps you've got that skeleton look down pat or are good at turning out mini monsters or weeny witches? Also, is there anything in particular you enjoy about face painting? Is it the creativity of it? Or seeing how much your DCs enjoy it? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

It would be particularly great if you could also post a picture on this thread of your Halloween face painting prowess Grin

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

i find little people don't like to stand still very long to have their faces painted so my tip is to keep it simple .... spread the face paint on quickly with a sponge and add details quickly with a smaller sponge or soft, small paint brush

Boys tend to want quite gruesome images, so lots of scars and blood is what they tend to find fun. Eyeliners and lipsticks come in very handy, but they are sometimes reluctant to let me use women's make-up on them!

My 2 year old dd loves her face being painted as a cat at any time of the year, not just at Hallowe'en!

sadiewoohoo · 18/10/2015 15:01

My daughter wants to be a witch EVERY year lol so I always make sure I have some rice puffs in the house to make a bunch of warts for her face. I stick them on with chocolate spread :)

feefeegabor · 18/10/2015 15:19

Do a small skin test first - just to make absolutely sure that your model isn't allergic to your make up!

Here's my little witchy woo - looking more scared than scary!

Face primer is a must! As is lots of patience and practice before hand. I always check out pinterest and google images to find what I think I would be capable of achieving. You tube is great for videos of how to do it too :)

jtl1131 · 18/10/2015 15:48

practice well in advance, dont worry too much about mistakes, afterall it is halloween :D

Cailin7 · 18/10/2015 16:34

Like to keep it simple and not overdo it, and lots of baby wipes !

VelvetGlove · 18/10/2015 18:19

Have a look on Youtube for some easy face designs that you can copy as it makes it a lot easier if you know where to start!

ha2el · 18/10/2015 18:31

Ask the subject what they would like to be and give them an idea of what it will look like so that there are no shocks or tantrums!

Anononooo · 18/10/2015 20:43

Follow a step by step guide, otherwise it can look rubbish. Also check carefully with child, to prevent disappointments.

BellaWella86 · 18/10/2015 21:23

You can turn MOST costumes into halloween themes using facepaint. Last year, my daughter wanted to be a pirate. I painted her face white and added some 'blood' to the sides of her mouth so she looked like a ghost/zombie pirate. Job done!

windowmouse · 19/10/2015 08:16

Skeletons are pretty easy or a pumpkin!

sarah3875 · 19/10/2015 09:19

I'm not particularly artistic shall we say, but I do spend a fair while trawling google for something simple but effective that I can copy!

theno1dj · 19/10/2015 09:43

Always use good quality paints otherwise you end up with a mess.

angiehoggett · 19/10/2015 11:32

My best tip is to have some very good quality make up remover for when you have to take it all off later. It saves all the tears and makes the process so much quicker!

LinnyBee · 19/10/2015 12:17

I'm not the best artist, but I've been practicing 3 different designs (cat, witch & zombie). I'm hoping they stick to a cat or the witch, the zombie is a bit dodgy!

I used YouTube for tips, but I mainly found practicing got the best results.

Pixi2 · 19/10/2015 13:34

The younger they are the swifter you need to make it! They don't sit still.

Oh, and no 4yr old appreciates a good day of the dead skeleton sugar skull face paint even if they did agree to it, because their friends just ask them what they are.

This year Ds will be a vampire (again) and dd has announced she will be a cat.

nerysw · 19/10/2015 14:09

Since I'm rubbish at facepainting I generally leave it to someone else!

sweetnuttydogs · 19/10/2015 14:33

I let my husband do the face painting as he is much better at it than me :) My tip get some sweets that the children can suck on while having it done keeps their minds busy :)

grannybiker · 19/10/2015 16:19

Let your child help your search online for inspiration.
It will also teach them how to search effectively, (And that not everything found is relevant, LOL!)

katieskatie82 · 19/10/2015 17:20

a cat is probably the easiest facepainting to do! Black nose and whiskers! Simples!

ddpunk182 · 19/10/2015 18:33

Primer under face paint to stop it sliding and for extra caution, set it with one of those make-up setting sprays.

fazkin · 19/10/2015 20:19

I'm terrible at any form of art so we end up making funny faces or drawing butterflies and flowers; albeit badly drawn Grin

Kangakate · 19/10/2015 20:27

I like to give it a go and use youtube videos for instruction. I find vasaline on a cotton bud is great for remove little mistakes and tidying up lines. Stencils are also a great tool
