McCain has asked us to find out what Mumsnetters’ favourite family teatime meal is.

Here’s what they say, “5th October sees the launch of the Nation’s Teatimes campaign by McCain, which sees the brand turn real families into teatime TV stars. McCain is asking real families from across the UK to share real life video clips of themselves enjoying their tea on their dedicated hub www.mccainteatime.co.uk. From Monday to Thursday, the family videos from across the country will be edited against the clock into a McCain ’Teatime Today' advert and aired on ITV later that same evening at 8.45pm during a teatime ad-break.”

Whether you eat tea around the table or tucked up on the sofa, from the hectic to the calm, to over in a flash, no matter what teatime is like in your house there is always good stuff happening and it's where some great family moments take place.

So, what’s your favourite family teatime meal? Maybe you love your family pizza evenings when everyone helps to add their own toppings? Do you have a great beef casserole that everyone enjoys? Or is just beans on toast that the family love?! Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

There's not many meals where the 4 of us can eat pretty much the same thing, due to various food intolerances and sensory issues. We still sit around the table for meals, though. Occasionally, I will make paprika pork, using pork shoulder slow cooked until it's melting. We can all enjoy that with our preferred accompaniments. For DS1 it's pasta, for DS2, oven chips! DH and I prefer it with brown rice, or occasionally, a nice dollop of mash. I also like to have some sort of cabbage or spring greens with it, but both of the boys object to that!

We love either a pie with mash on top (Shepherd's or Fish) or curry. We all love eating and discuss the food, the day's meals and what we got up to. We all go to the same school (2 work there, obviously) and so it is a time for catching up on what's going on, telling stories etc.

Mostly, though, we are together. Sadly, as the children grow (and both now have part time jobs) these are no longer daily.

Sockattack · 06/10/2015 12:36

Shepherds pie and veg is always a winner

chairmeoh · 06/10/2015 12:39

Homemade pizza is always a winner. Easy to do, DD can muck in, everyone chooses their own toppings and its fun to eat!

We always have a good chat around the table about our day at school/work etc.

Baked bean pie (layer of beans then onion, cheese, sausages and topped with mash and cheese) is one of our favourites.

asuwere · 06/10/2015 12:56

Our fav is macaroni, everyone enjoys it and its easy and quick to make so good all round. Was a fav in my house growing up too.
We always sit at the table to eat, its a great time to catch up.

Our favourite meal as a family first started when my girls were little. One night a week we would have a meal where everything was put in to the middle and we all helped ourselves, the girls thought that was great. We would have pizza, salad, jacket potatoes, chicken, fish, dips etc. We sometimes sat around the table, or on a picnic rug in living room if we felt adventurous.....we even sat outside if the weather decided to be kind! Smile

We have kept up this 'picky dinner' theme throughout the girls childhood and we still do it now. It's something we all look forward to and as it's so informal we just sit there and chat away without any normal day to day pressures.

Jacket potatoes with crispy skins and lots of fillings to choose from so everyone can choose their favourite.

Catsgowoof · 06/10/2015 14:23

baked potatoes done in the oven with lots of toppings

Kriek · 06/10/2015 14:26

Ribs, Rice, Greek salad. Easy peasy and the kids will eat every last bit.

sliceofsoup · 06/10/2015 14:26

We don't always sit at the table, but the DCs love it when we do. DD1 is really adventurous and will eat pretty much anything, but DD2 takes after DH and can be a bit fussy so one of the few meals that goes down well with everyone is good old spag bol with garlic bread for us all to share.

BettyBlueToo · 06/10/2015 14:30

Fishfinger pie. Fishfingers, beans, cheese and mash in layers and then baked. Bubbly cheesy oozy bliss.

FlopIsMyParentingGuru · 06/10/2015 14:42

Sausages. They are a big hit here. Ideally in the DC's minds with chips but I love mash and gravy and peas.
Everyone's a winner.

iklboo · 06/10/2015 14:44

Chicken breasts stuffing with garlic & herb soft cheese, wrapped in prosciutto or Parma ham. Topped with mild salsa & baked. We serve with herb roasted baby new potatoes and asparagus. We all love this.

Homemade burgers with various toppings and wedges is another favourite.

Wjjkl · 06/10/2015 15:10

My DS loves broccoli (and happily, so do my husband and I)! So it would be a peppered steak pie with broccoli and chips!

mumsbe · 06/10/2015 15:13

We love mince and mash with Yorkshire puds all sat together.

FeelingSmurfy · 06/10/2015 15:53

Vegetarian meatballs in a tomato sauce with spaghetti

We have bolognese a lot but don't have meatballs that often so it seems like a treat even though it's technically the same meal!

hermancakedestroyer · 06/10/2015 16:13

Our favourite meal is spaghetti Bolognese made with quorn mince and covered in grated cheese.

BabyLinthwaite · 06/10/2015 16:20

Our favourite meal is a traditional roast chicken gravy dinner with the works

CremeEggThief · 06/10/2015 16:24

Probably gnocchi with pesto, olives and grated cheese. Or nice chunky oven chips spicy wedges with veggie burgers in baps, with cheese and ketchup, and some nice salad leaves.

aftereight · 06/10/2015 16:25

Curry with rice, naan and paratha, round the table, at the meekend Smile

aftereight · 06/10/2015 16:25

Weekend Smile

choccyp1g · 06/10/2015 17:20

I usually try to be a but snidey on these kind of threads, but for once the truth is what McCain want to hear.
Ham egg and chips (chunky frozen ones, I think they are pub chips).

choccyp1g · 06/10/2015 17:21

A bit snidey.
Eg "anything but chips"

gamerwidow · 06/10/2015 17:33

Gammon, egg and chips. Dd is obsessed with gammon.
