Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables have asked us to find out how you get the whole family together for a cosy night in.

Here’s what they say, "New Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables are a fun way for all the family to get involved, so we’d love to hear from Mumsnetters about how they encourage the whole family to enjoy a family night in."

So, what do you do to ensure your busy family spends time together? Do you make sure everyone's favourite meal - or dessert - is on the menu? Perhaps there's a TV show that's guaranteed to gather you all in one place? Or do you use more direct tactics like bribery?! Maybe you cut off supply to the wifi or have made the lounge or kitchen an irresistably cosy place to congregate?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

On are family nights we usually have a few games on the PlayStation together, order takeaway and then watch a family film with plenty of goodies.

strikingstarlet · 12/10/2015 09:28

Our girls are still fairly young but we do make an effort to have 1 night a weekend when we spend time as a family!

My girls enjoy what to call "crisp and lemonade" night where they will have a big bowl of mixed crisps and a glass of lemonade (with a straw! ??) while watching a film on tv, crisps and lemonade are both treats in this house but we love how special it makes them feel to stay up a little bit later with mummy and daddy and be allowed 2 treat things on the same night, it just goes to show that children don't need a lot to feel special and happy! Xx

createbeauty · 12/10/2015 09:57

We've accepted that there just is no pleasing everyone in our family. I try my best to get everyone's favourites and do whatever I can to make them happy but more often than not, the effort goes un-noticed.

Popcorn, pizza, a good movie and all of us on the sofa under a huge duvet laughing and joking x

I do love the kitchen, it has to be my favorite room in the house, We are quite traditional in that we have a dining table and chairs and 'Always' sit as a family and eat dinner or tea, we discuss homework, friendships and husbands work, love sundays the best as we have extra family round and get 2 tables out, discuss everything about the week and it's pudding day too lol

pgwynne · 12/10/2015 10:04

Just lately our family nights in consists of us all watching all of the Harry Potter films after recently visiting Harry Potter Tour at Warner Brothers. It was so amazing we all decided that we had to watch all of the films again. My son is in his element as likes spotting some of the props from the tour in the films.

Friday night is take away & movie night for us. Ok it's not the most healthy of meals but it's only once a week, it's a treat & we all look forward to it.

cheryl100 · 12/10/2015 10:32

I love our family Saturday nights! We choose a film, have a takeaway and then sweets and chocolates!

emiai · 12/10/2015 10:34

We have nights in every day..

regular ones consist of homework and reading, some card games and sore losers..

Big family nights consist of extra people coming round - finger foods and board / wii multiplayer games (which the children love!!)

Saturday night TV isn't what it used to be, and I remember looking forward to the weekend, movies at home are great - and the smell of popcorn from our healthy popcorn maker makes it that little bit sweeter

hiddenmichelle · 12/10/2015 10:47

We choose a movie to watch and have various bowls of nibbles out - usually popcorn, crisps and chocolate. Sometimes, we play "guess chocolate or crisp flavour" which is always funny too. Love Saturday evening in front of the telly with the kids or a games of cards/board game!

devito92 · 12/10/2015 10:54

Get the board games out and sit around playing all together

Great night in would start with me not having to cook! So a takeaway of some sort then a good film on TV with a BIG glass of wine for me and snacks for dh and ds.

jodiecrossley1 · 12/10/2015 11:18

We play lots of board games and eat pizza and snacks!

beeelaine · 12/10/2015 11:32

Most weekends are a family night in during the winter months! We like to have tea, i clear up and wash up, then our 14 year old likes to prep up the popcorn maker or organise nibbles / share out the chocolate. We pick a good movie to watch, get the sofa blankets out and all snuggle up nice and warm and I like to crochet.

Laineyflo · 12/10/2015 11:34

We love Autumn/Winter when it's acceptable to veg in front of the tele without being judged..plus the start of Strictly, which we love watching as a Family. Snuggling up with a big blanket and cup of tea, you can't beat it!

lizd31 · 12/10/2015 11:48

It's not often that all the family are together so we love to reminisce by showing old cine films which have been transferred onto DVDs. My Mum has Alzheimer's so her short term memory is non existent but she remembers everything from the past & the little ones love to see & hear about the olden days

Clairescottshug · 12/10/2015 11:57

Saturday nights for us consist of home made pizza followed by popcorn and a duvet watching dr who :-)
