Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables have asked us to find out how you get the whole family together for a cosy night in.

Here’s what they say, "New Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables are a fun way for all the family to get involved, so we’d love to hear from Mumsnetters about how they encourage the whole family to enjoy a family night in."

So, what do you do to ensure your busy family spends time together? Do you make sure everyone's favourite meal - or dessert - is on the menu? Perhaps there's a TV show that's guaranteed to gather you all in one place? Or do you use more direct tactics like bribery?! Maybe you cut off supply to the wifi or have made the lounge or kitchen an irresistably cosy place to congregate?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

Ours is picnic on a rug on the living room floor, which must include crisps, strawberries and cake, plus TV and a board game or - if I am feeling kind - Twister. Oh and chocolate, usually Cadburys, is essential too.

We always have our evening meal together but for entertainment it is a bit more difficult. I have 4 DC spread out from age 4 to 19 so watching films can be difficult unless it's a U cert, but obviously some PG's are OK - Paddington is a favourite with added treats. Dr Who is good TV programme once DC4 is in bed - too scary for him.

We also love playing board games - traditional are best but we have just bought a new Ivor the Engine game which is great.

My favourite family nights are blowing up the blow up bed and sliding down both sets of stairs, the kids idea Grin but it's so much fun, and absolutely wonderful to see their happy faces, just having fun Smile

We cuddle up in blankets and eat popcorn or nachos and watch (a Christmas) film

We have pizza nights on Saturday, put nibbles in little bowls and snuggle down on the sofa with our blankets. The children make cinema tickets and share them out with whatever film they have chosen. They swap their tickets for the treats in bowls and we have a cosy night in together. Lovely

A takeaway, some treats and a good board game. Can't beat it.

Friday movie night for us too - that means an earlyish dinner so the kids can be PJ'd and we all snuggle on the sofa to share popcorn while watching a family film together, before a slightly later bedtime if they're coping (well, it is the start of the weekend, and if they're tiring we just stop the film at a convenient break and let them finish it in the morning).

Picking which DVD to watch by shortlisting ritual - we each eliminate until there's only one left.

My son makes a nest of all the soft furnishings in the house, we all pick a DVD then decide which one wins, and snuggle up to watch it, with munchies Grin

We're loving our autumn Saturday nights, log burner on the go, the boys having pizza for their dinner and settling down together to watch Strictly followed by Dr Who - their evening usually ends with the little one being carried snoring to bed after falling asleep on Dad's lap!

My DDs (3 & 5) love a 'movie afternoon' where they pick the film we'll all watch and I'll make a big bowl of popcorn for us all to share :)

Sunday evenings in the Winter we have a roast dinner at 5pm when all activities/homework are finished. We then lock the doors, close the curtains and play games - board games or card games - at the kitchen table. A couple of glasses of wine, candles lit and no electronics - a nice end to the weekend.

We try to have all our meals together as a family. On a night in at the weekend I try to get the kiddies involved with the cooking. We then play on the wii or watch a movie. We love chocolate and crisps as our snacks.
