Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables have asked us to find out how you get the whole family together for a cosy night in.

Here’s what they say, "New Cadbury’s Marvellous Smashables are a fun way for all the family to get involved, so we’d love to hear from Mumsnetters about how they encourage the whole family to enjoy a family night in."

So, what do you do to ensure your busy family spends time together? Do you make sure everyone's favourite meal - or dessert - is on the menu? Perhaps there's a TV show that's guaranteed to gather you all in one place? Or do you use more direct tactics like bribery?! Maybe you cut off supply to the wifi or have made the lounge or kitchen an irresistably cosy place to congregate?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

our favourite night in is takeaway pizza, boardgames and a movie!

We all bring duvets downstairs and snuggle up together. Especially fun during autumn months as the nights draw in.

We like a nice home cooked meal together and then pick a movie on Netflix. Usually have an indulgent dessert stretched out on the sofa, it's great in the winter months when it's just too cold to go out and it gets dark so early.

Family night in, disco dancing, movie, snacks...

We like a Chinese takeaway and an episode of Moonshiners or nothing to declare on the TV.

My two favourite family nights in are both around Christmas.
The first one is with the children during Advent. They get an activity in the Advent calendar and one of them is to watch a Christmas film.
We set up the living room with snacks and hot chocolate, then DD and I settle under a blanket on one settee and DH and DS under a blanket on the other. The kids love it and it is so cosy with the dark, cold nights.
My second, is New Year's Eve. DH and I never really liked NYE and going to parties / out clubbing. Since we had children, we have put them to bed as usual, got a bit dressed up, had a lovely three course meal together and then snuggled on the settee watching things we have taped over Christmas (and eating chocolate!). We then go to bed at about 12.05am, because the kids are not old enough yet to understand that January 1st is designed for staying in bed all morning Wink

Every Friday is movie night with a weekly treat of sweets and we turn the living room into a cinema. My 5 yr old loves it and it motivates her to have good behaviour all week. Such a simple and cheap thing to do but really enjoyed.

We love monopoly. So much so, we have four boards all laid alongside each other to make a "mega monopoly"

Of course, it causes "mega monopoly arguments" also Grin

My dc are all grown up now (18 and 20) so it's rare that we get a night in as a family. If we do, we either opt for a film (something silly like Clueless, ideally) or a board game, plus drinks and snacks. Or a takeaway.

When ours were teenagers we had most term-time Sunday evenings as family film and pizza night (pizza delivered).

Now when one visits we nearly always watch a film together but the food is more likely to be a lavish home-cooked affair (they love my cooking and I enjoy eating their favourites with them and making sure they get lots of vegetables) or a takeaway curry from their favourite curry restaurant.

We love Saturday nights - we all snuggle up in our pjs under duvets in front of the tv and have various chocolate treats in front of us with a nice mug of hot chocolate and marshmallows. Its what autumn nights are all about!

Movie night with a DVD and chocolates

Family Night In starts with getting into PJs.
The all we need is a good film, snacks and a blanket on the sofa.
Actually, the first step is probably tidying and cleaning the sitting room. I can't relax if I can see jobs close by that need doing.

Fire on, snuggling under the duvet together (with many, many teddies and a cat too), a bag of sweets to share and Doctor Who on the TV. Perfect!

We tend to have a 'night in' most Saturdays. It's a way of getting some quality time with the teen when her younger siblings are in bed. We're too knackered to do much but we get comfy under blankets, watch X Factor and have chocolates or homemade popcorn. She loves it.

Movie night too - it's so simple but the DC think it's a real treat. Hot chocolate with fuzzy cream and marshmallows, Boost bites for DH and me and buttons for the boys and popcorn of course... Just need the boys to break the habit of Toy Story or Cars and watch something else now!

We have a movie night and make popcorn. The curtains must be closed and all lights off. Ds' rules.

Pizza and film night. We don't normally allow eating on the sofa and I work every weekend evening so on a rare night when I'm off we eat pizza on the picnic blanket and watch a film.

Nights in for us have always started with all sitting down to a meal together, then either watching a favourite movie (either sci-fi or something funny) or playing board games,

Woodburner on, wine chilled for us, lemonade chilled for DD. Bowls of savoury snacks and a few bars of chocolates. And a good family film on Netflix.

PJs, a few good films, a duvet and some snacks - popcorn, chocolate and doritos are big hits here.

Everyone helps to make homemade pizza, which we eat in front of the TV and watch something we can all enjoy - Doctor Who is the current favourite.

We like to snuggle up on the sofa under a special blue blanket that we have had for years. Everyone squeezes under and we watch a marathon of films of everyone's choosing. We will have popcorn and crisps and Haribo and juice. It's a treat night and a good opportunity for us to all just chill out.
