As schools re-open and your DCs go back to school, the team at Mini Milk would love to know what special treatment your DCs get to help them ease back in to school.

Mini Milk say "Small but perfectly formed, the Mini Milk is a firm favourite within the Wall's range of ice creams. With a choice of three delicious flavours -Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate - it's a perfect tasty treat you can feel confident giving to your kids. With children going back to school after the summer holidays, we know that it can be tough to get them back into a routine. So, we'd like to hear about any tips and treats you have for the back to school transition period"

So, do your DCs get any special treats or treatment when they go back to school? Maybe they get a special after school treat for the first week or two after going back to school? Perhaps you try to make the morning routine into a fun game? Or maybe you like to buy them a brand new pencil case?

Whatever special treats or treatment your DCs get when going back to school, Mini Milk would love to hear about it.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Mini Milk's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

My DS has just started new school, with bus travel now included which has meant a long day for him.
I have made sure that I have been there for him everyday after school, clearing my work diary, so I can ask him about school, do his homework with him and just be as enthusiastic and supportive.
He also got to choose a new school bag and pencil case, all part of the fun of going to new 'big' school.

new bags and shoes

jennie1984j · 13/09/2015 21:19

I take him for a special tea on his first day back

Bogeyface · 13/09/2015 21:22

On the Friday night after the first week back we have a take away. As money is tight this is a rare treat, but worth it I think.

We put all the food out on the coffee table, and have a big floor picnic. There is one hell of a mess and the hoover is usually then full of rice but its fun!

I like it too because they are usually really tired after their first week back so having a night off sitting up at the table and just lounging on the floor is nice. We put a DVD on after an hour of arguing about which one and just chill out, its really nice :)

My middle daughter started school last week and we went out for lunch after her first half day. My eldest didn't get anything special - I feel a bit bad now! But we did do lots of fun things in the holidays!

Loula117 · 13/09/2015 22:00

New lunch box for January term (Father Christmas brings them), and always porridge for breakfast on the first day back - with a smiley face made from raisins and a jam nose. Plus a silly note in their lunchbox. Otherwise just an extra big kiss at the gates (while they still let me!)

Similar to others - new stationary, backpack & uniform.. if you can call that a treat?! I remember loving a new, fresh uniform on first day back after summer hols.. but maybe boys don't feel the same way?!
We went out for a (cheap & cheerful!) family dinner to discuss how it went.. mainly questions from us, but the thought was there :)

Nothing once back at school... But I had a special mother/daughter day with DD1 the previous week where she had my full attention all day and we did all sorts of fun things that she requested.

Father/daughter days happen too, but this year theirs was at the start of the summer holidays. DD2 will get special focus days too, once she's old enough to notice-!

We always try to have a nice family day out together the weekend before term starts. This time it was to The Deep in Hull, which is fantastic. We always make sure he has everything he needs, new uniform, equipment etc.

He gets pocket money each week, but we expect certain things from him, in order for him to receive the full amount. The criteria includes keeping his bedroom tidy, and working hard at school and with homework. So he gets treats throughout the whole school year, as long as puts in the effort.

raindaisy · 14/09/2015 10:16

My DS gets to choose his new pencil case bags etc I let him choose what he wants in his packed lunch as a treat for the first week so to settle him back in. On the first night after school he gets a treat of a meal out nowhere expensive but something special for him to say well done.

funkyfish586 · 14/09/2015 10:54

We always make sure we have a fun day together before they go back this usually involves waffles & icecream & lots of 'bad' things.

southernsun · 14/09/2015 11:05

We both take the day off work to take of DS to school and then he gets to choose something nice to do at the weekend to give him something to look forward to.

kel1981 · 14/09/2015 12:36

I feel really cruel saying this but no! they have enough treats in the holidays it's nice to save a bit of money when they go back to school!

leccybill · 14/09/2015 13:33

New hair ribbons for school, a new animal keychain for her book bag and we went to the ice cream parlour on the Friday afternoon of the first week back as a treat.

LaContessaDiPlump · 14/09/2015 13:37

My oldest is starting school tomorrow and he was allowed to choose dinner - sausages chips and gravy. I may even make crumble if they're very lucky!

badgermum · 14/09/2015 14:04

I have a treat waiting for them when they get home a favourite chocolate bar or a cake from the bakery just something they dont normally get after school.

maureen3733 · 14/09/2015 17:17

i always cook their favourite meals on the first day just to show them how loved they are.

LaNouba · 15/09/2015 00:11

After his first day of School we visited a local Ice cream Parlour where he enjoyed a huge sundae with sprinkles and cream.

amybell149 · 15/09/2015 09:47

My son started school for the first time this September so it was a lot of change and a big deal. We bought him a small Lego set to say what a big boy he had been after his first week

LizB62 · 15/09/2015 09:53

Just new kit for school and I quiz him more than usual on how everyone is and who has grown the most over the summer holidays !

Shiraznowplease · 15/09/2015 10:56

I take them shopping to choose what sort of things they want in their new lunchboxes. For the first few weeks I place a surprise in their lunch... A note, a Lego mini figure, sandwiches cut out with cookie cutters like dinosaurs, cars, stars etc. I pick them up from school and let then take a pick from the after school jar with things like bike ride, soft play, trip to pArk and cake baking

Shiraznowplease · 15/09/2015 10:57

Pressed submit too soon, on the first day after school we go the cafe after school for salted caramel brownies and babycinos

johnchapman1986 · 15/09/2015 13:53

I like to make them their favourite meal, whatever that happens to be that week, and take them out and let them pick a toy for themselves.

kristianjsnooks · 15/09/2015 18:38

Prefer not too - Far too many reasons already to 'treat' the kids!

jayz268 · 15/09/2015 19:22

Mine have pancakes for breakfast on the first day back. They love it.
