As schools re-open and your DCs go back to school, the team at Mini Milk would love to know what special treatment your DCs get to help them ease back in to school.

Mini Milk say "Small but perfectly formed, the Mini Milk is a firm favourite within the Wall's range of ice creams. With a choice of three delicious flavours -Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate - it's a perfect tasty treat you can feel confident giving to your kids. With children going back to school after the summer holidays, we know that it can be tough to get them back into a routine. So, we'd like to hear about any tips and treats you have for the back to school transition period"

So, do your DCs get any special treats or treatment when they go back to school? Maybe they get a special after school treat for the first week or two after going back to school? Perhaps you try to make the morning routine into a fun game? Or maybe you like to buy them a brand new pencil case?

Whatever special treats or treatment your DCs get when going back to school, Mini Milk would love to hear about it.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Mini Milk's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

I let my girls watch more TV for the first week they were back at school as they were too exhausted to do anything else, however now they have been back for 3 weeks they have ditched the TV and are back to playing together as normal.

Little ones first day at school this week. He is bonkers about photography so he has been promised a small (cheap ) camera if he goes to school like a big boy. Hopefully not too many tears...... Can't guarantee HE won't cry though!!!!

New pencils cases and contents are a must for back to school, whether they need them or not.

We always do something nice the first weekend after back to school as a reward for coping well with the routine. It is hard work for us all after 6 weeks off.

Twirlypoos · 07/09/2015 22:12

New pencil cases and choice of 'last supper' on the day before - homemade burgers from DS2 and chippy tea the day after from DS1

Whyisitsodifficult · 07/09/2015 22:17

New lunch bag and they get to pick what sandwiches they want for the first day!

G1veMeStrength · 07/09/2015 22:43

Life's one long treat for my DC. They live rent free, all you can eat, laundry service, taxis provided, constantly updated wardrobe. All in exchange for a few light chores.

Yet I still bought them a back to school toy each today from the reduced section in Tesco...

justme135 · 08/09/2015 07:04

My Children get to pick a new lunch box and water bottle for school. They also get to pick what they wanted in there lunch box and while crisps aren't normally allowed I let them have them for lunch on day 1. Plus I took sweets with me for them to have after school.
I arranged to go into work a bit later so I could do drop off and pick ups for the first week back.
Not sure if the last but was more for me or them!

New p.e trainers and school shoes, despite the old ones still fitting, because he liked the look of them. Old ones were a little tatty to be fair.

PurpleSkyatthewateringhole · 08/09/2015 12:40

Oh, and to add, I've bought Ds special left handed equipment from a specialist website to try and help him this year.

The DC and I did go and stuff ourselves on £10 worth of Tesco vouchers at Pizza Express on the last day of their holidays, but other than that it tends to be, as others have said, about just being a bit lenient. They do less chores, and get more say in supper choices, for the first week. DD has just moved to the 'main school' and is doing much longer days so the route from school to bed is as short and as free of opportunities for disagreement as we can manage. I do refresh pencil case contents if they want me to but that may be more about me indulging my stationery fetish than anything else.

For the teenager, the choice of cooler-than-cool backpacks (which we trekked around approximately 30 shops to find, it would seem). For my littler one, starting school for the first time, the promise of taking her scooter, a keyring with her initial on for her bookbag so it's easy to find. For both, home-made cookies when they got home and at the end of the week, dinner out with ice cream.

Smcgettigan79 · 08/09/2015 18:08

Ds1 first day today - park for a kick about this afternoon And he's just finished his requested sausage sandwich dinner. He can't wait to go back tomorrow so all good

loosechange · 08/09/2015 18:35

I make a "special tea" at the end of week 1 to celebrate the first week back and lessen the blow of the holidays ending.

MyFirstMyLastMyEverythingBagel · 08/09/2015 19:22

I bought dd some new pretty hairslides that I knew she would be excited to wear so she would be eager to get ready on the first morning and also cooked her favourite tea for her coming home Smile other than that, no special treatment I am a firm believer in just getting on with it (though secretly a little sad the summer of fun is over)

mrspremise · 08/09/2015 19:26

Newly packed bags, their choice of expensive exotic fruit for break-time snacks for the first week back (they usually just get apples) and a nice dinner of their choosing on the first day.

FeelingSmurfy · 08/09/2015 19:44

Bit more understanding with the moods and ignore a bit more than would normally, school tires them out so much when they first go back

justshootmenow · 08/09/2015 20:19

My eldest was bought some lunchbox treats but he shattered two teeth yesterday so has delayed going back, but for my other two we had a special tea and pudding today.

del2929 · 08/09/2015 21:33

we usually go for a meal out on the weekend before school

Cherrybellyboo · 08/09/2015 22:33

Dd had a lunch box treat :) then I tried to make it extra relaxed when she came home

Hamandcheesesandwich · 08/09/2015 22:36

New pants! They choose a new pair about a week before.

Dunno why it started but it stuck

BlackeyedSusan · 09/09/2015 01:03

yes, I have forgotten. I will ask them in the morning!

Dolallytats · 09/09/2015 07:32

We really missed DS when he went back to school. DH, DD and I all walk around checking the time and saying how quiet and odd it feels without him there.

When he got back from his first day I made him some of his favourite cakes. And I made him a dinner I know he likes (very fussy eater).

philosophicmum · 09/09/2015 09:36

We had DS's favourite for tea after the first day. He was so tired he went straight to bed afterwards, poor mite.

Rishi79 · 09/09/2015 12:03

New Pencil case for sure ! :)

She, by default, is allowed to have School meal on the first and last week of every term.

And I don't force her to read/write/homework for the first week unless if they are due that week itself. :)

TheImminentGin · 09/09/2015 13:25

No.

Can I have the prize please.
