As schools re-open and your DCs go back to school, the team at Mini Milk would love to know what special treatment your DCs get to help them ease back in to school.

Mini Milk say "Small but perfectly formed, the Mini Milk is a firm favourite within the Wall's range of ice creams. With a choice of three delicious flavours -Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate - it's a perfect tasty treat you can feel confident giving to your kids. With children going back to school after the summer holidays, we know that it can be tough to get them back into a routine. So, we'd like to hear about any tips and treats you have for the back to school transition period"

So, do your DCs get any special treats or treatment when they go back to school? Maybe they get a special after school treat for the first week or two after going back to school? Perhaps you try to make the morning routine into a fun game? Or maybe you like to buy them a brand new pencil case?

Whatever special treats or treatment your DCs get when going back to school, Mini Milk would love to hear about it.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Mini Milk's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Just some new pens and pencils

Marg2k8 · 12/09/2015 17:04

Mine have now left school, but I didn't give any special treatment on the first day back.

Favourite for tea and a small pressie at the end of their first full week which had been challenging for them both.

mumtowoo1 · 12/09/2015 17:42

I let my daughter pick a special dinner that she would like on the first day back

gonetoseed · 12/09/2015 17:45

We have a back to school BBQ for all kids friends and parents. This really breaks the ice....(get it) and they look forward to it every year.

A kiss on the cheek and to do their best

My daughter is not naturally academica and doesn't really enjoy working. I've talked to her time and time again about how important these short years are and how they will effect the rest of her life. When she tries really hard I will praise her and treat in little ways such as a meal or letting her watch what she wants on the main TV!

SuzCG · 12/09/2015 19:21

I don't think they need a treat for going back to school - that's just part of life and we all have to get back into routine after the long treat of a fun summer. I do always end the summer holidays with a special trip or day out though, so they finish on a high - this year we went to the theatre to see Annie and out for dinner after. I do send them back with new stationery though and on the first weekend after they go back we usually do something nice, like make pizzas etc.

Lots of TLC - I let them watch plenty of TV and play computer games after school to help them relax and unwind after school for those first few weeks. They still have to get their homework done first though!

We also make time to chat 1:1 in the evenings before they go to bed so they can talk about any concerns, issues or difficulties they are having with settling into the new school year.

StickChildNumberTwo · 12/09/2015 20:37

We went to a show at the Edinburgh Fringe the last day before nursery started back as an end of holidays treat.

arat · 12/09/2015 20:43

Promise to take them for a meal out at the end of the first full week. Where depends on what offers are around, but even if it's McD's they are happy!

nemno · 12/09/2015 20:48

I used to meet them with their favourite coffeshop milkshake ready waiting in the car.

sarah861421 · 12/09/2015 21:19

I have always tried to get them into a routine asap, but also we usually go for tea and a cake sometime during the first week, My daughter is now 17 and in her final year and still expected to go out this week, but just for a change, she paid. I love traditions

andreaca · 12/09/2015 21:40

We went shopping for school essentials, as I wouldnt dare pick then, theyve got their own style. They dont have trouble settling in, their pros at it now, Lol.

SouthWesterlyWinds · 12/09/2015 22:13

Favourite dinner and an extra story at bedtime. And a big treat at the end of the week to look forward to - this week, we climbed the lighthouse for the views she kept saying she wanted to do. Despite being scared of heights!

ElectroNymph · 13/09/2015 09:56

I usually take them to the cinema and for a meal before they go back.

Jade5093 · 13/09/2015 10:25

My daughter has just started part time at primary school. I just made sure I booked the week off school so I could take her and pick her up before childminder does to ease her in. The new concept of a uniform and a big girl book bag was enoug to get her so excited she loves it.

glasgowlass · 13/09/2015 10:30

Well my oldest went back to school mid August...
As well as the usual new bag, pencil case, pens, pencils etc he gets to choose where to go for a celebratory family meal on first day back. I was rather surprised he chose our local Italian restaurant instead of his usual choice of McDonalds! No chores for a week & lots of cuddles & the odd chococino.

lavent · 13/09/2015 10:50

I also let then choose what's for dinner on the first day back.
This year I got them a little packet of sweets each too Smile

SouthWestmom · 13/09/2015 13:00

Nothing really, I don't see school as something to be suffered it or put up with.
New pencil case and shoes when they need it, and I make sure they have nice packed lunches, but o don't make a big deal out of it.

cocochips · 13/09/2015 15:04

No...just an extra tight bear hug on the first day back!

myusername12345 · 13/09/2015 17:01

A photo on the first morning, and choice of film on the first weekend

mamma2laura · 13/09/2015 19:10

A new bag of her choice

CheeseAtFourpence · 13/09/2015 19:15

Slightly different as DD has just started school. She got a much-wanted toy for her first day at school and a trip to her favourite restaurant on the Friday after a great first week.

mishknight · 13/09/2015 19:57

I have a tradition that on the first day back in September I cook pancakes for breakfast for my DD. I've done this for the last three years and got the idea from a storybook called Emily's First Day
