As schools re-open and your DCs go back to school, the team at Mini Milk would love to know what special treatment your DCs get to help them ease back in to school.

Mini Milk say "Small but perfectly formed, the Mini Milk is a firm favourite within the Wall's range of ice creams. With a choice of three delicious flavours -Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate - it's a perfect tasty treat you can feel confident giving to your kids. With children going back to school after the summer holidays, we know that it can be tough to get them back into a routine. So, we'd like to hear about any tips and treats you have for the back to school transition period"

So, do your DCs get any special treats or treatment when they go back to school? Maybe they get a special after school treat for the first week or two after going back to school? Perhaps you try to make the morning routine into a fun game? Or maybe you like to buy them a brand new pencil case?

Whatever special treats or treatment your DCs get when going back to school, Mini Milk would love to hear about it.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Mini Milk's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

DD1 is so happy to go back to school, no treats necessary Smile although she is over the moon with her new school shoes and cardigans!

Benzalkonium · 09/09/2015 16:44

Slightly more sugary breakfast cereal than usual.

Benzalkonium · 09/09/2015 16:46

The imminent gin

Hahaha!

DS aged 4 1/2 was very excited to go back (he did Kindergarten last year). We took photos of him on his first "proper" day of school in his uniform. He also got a Kinder egg when he got home.

NettleTea · 09/09/2015 18:12

we home school our oldest, so the last day of the holidays we allowed the youngest to choose what he would like to do all day, as his sister would get to do something he wasnt keen on when he went back.

He chose to go to the beach and then play minecraft.
She chose to go shopping and eat noodles!

Last evening of watching films and family dinner. They are teens so get rapidly absorbed into clubs and friends once term starts.

Family time is probably more of a treat for me than for them though. They do get Friday night ice cream if it is not yet winter weather.

My eldest started reception this week and my youngest started at nursery. They have both settled in really well, which I have been grateful for as there dad is working overseas at the moment. As a well done they have been brought some Lego/Duplo. In future years I imagine it will be things like stationary, family meal etc.

Buxtonstill · 09/09/2015 18:49

A new pencil case, with some luxury items (scented gel pens, fancy rubbers etc) and a paperback book. Also choice of evening meal!

GloGirl · 09/09/2015 20:44

He has his first day of preschool next week, he will get a filling bowl of porridge to set him up, and then I'll probably let him have a snack bowl of a chocolatey cereal as a treat!

He will get a nice big lunch at schoold, and one of his favourite snacks is a ice lolly so he will probably get one of those when he comes home

SerenaVanDerWoodsen · 09/09/2015 21:06

My eldest is just about to start school. So I think it's probably a bit different as we've tried to make it exciting anyway as it's a big transition. In future I wouldn't think we'd do anything special (although excited that stationery shopping may be on the cards according to everyone else Grin).

DD1 gets her choice of breakfast and dinner on the first day back, and a special treat after dinner (mint Vienetta was her choice this year!). Other than that, nothing in particular - we've spent enough on uniform by this point to warrant any expensive treats!

sharond101 · 10/09/2015 10:01

DS is at Nursery. We did lots really fun things leading up to him going back and got him a new backpack. I always try do something he enjoys when he gets home.

Everythingwillbeok · 10/09/2015 13:11

My DD was 10 on her first day back, so she picked all her own packed lunch things out the day before, so she had a nice "birthday lunch" these included pizza pockets, cocktails sausages, crisps, raspberries, and of course birthday cake. We then called for an ice cream on the way home.

She wore birthday badges all over her cardigan too!!

Normally the going back to school treats involve a new bag, pencil case, lovely new pencils and pens from paperchase and new hair bows and clips. Nice new packed lunch box and new snack boxes. I normally stick a post-it note inside her dinner too to say hello and I hope the first day back is ok.

We always go through he Illuminations too at Blackpool the Friday after the first week as it gives us something to look forward to, we all get our onesies on and load the car with blankets and get cosy, the DCs look forward to this little tradition and it would be nice to think they would maybe do it with their children too.

Kathderoet · 10/09/2015 15:58

No, their new bags, pencil cases and stationery supplies are exciting enough for them. Also wearing their new uniform induces them to get ready and out for school on the first day.

Thegentlemonkey · 10/09/2015 19:26

Choice of dinner in our house (fish finger sandwiches!) & a pack of sticker book stickers for the latest sticker obsession at the end of the week!

chairmeoh · 10/09/2015 19:48

No special treat. But I mentally promise myself that I'll be a better Mum this term, listen more, be more encouraging, stand back a bit and let her be a bit more independent, enable more friends for tea etc.

kierie · 10/09/2015 19:51

My friend is German and she bought my son a schultute. It's a cone filled with sweets and treats and things that children need when they first start school. Lovely tradition!

MakeTeaNotWar · 10/09/2015 20:07

Shiny new shoes and a new hair band!

barricade · 10/09/2015 20:15

We need to give them all the encouragement they need. New bags, shiny shoes, flashy trainers, Adidas Predator football boots, FIFA-Approved Questra World Cup football, pristine uniform, new set of stationary (incl. the latest scientific calculator, which must have Wi-Fi these days) ... by the time we are through, the kids are actually looking forward to school (to show off their new gear)

Smile
mumofsammy · 10/09/2015 20:29

Even more cuddles than normal and I always make sure I have some homemade cake for his pudding.

FPATEL · 10/09/2015 20:37

I think taking new lunchboxes with new containers and flasks was exciting for them. At the weekend we had shopped for healthy snacks, letting them choose and on the first day, they helped me pack their Lunches. They are 4 and 5 btw

NorbertDentressangle · 10/09/2015 20:49

When our DC started school they both had a Schult??te too kierie. It is a lovely tradition. The photo of DD with her cone makes me laugh as it was almost as tall as her!

( Schult??te )

Now they're older (the youngest has just started high school) we will probably let them choose what takeaway we have at the weekend or maybe go out for a meal somewhere

NorbertDentressangle · 10/09/2015 20:51

eh?! Confused - the ?? in my post were supposed to umlauts over the letter u

Anononooo · 10/09/2015 20:59

No. They have had so many this summer, it is good to get back to regularity. Friday night DVD however is one thing they look forward to.

ThisUserNameIsAlreadyTaken · 10/09/2015 22:41

I took my two bowling.

It was a combination of last holiday treat, being back at school and a well done for trying for DD, as she did a sort of 11+ test for senior schools (3 hours with tons of kids she didn't know!), which she'd been practising for through the holidays.
