Audible.co.uk has produced a new full-cast dramatisation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book – The Mowgli Stories, in association with charity partner the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), and they'd love to hear Mumsnetters' thoughts on it.

Audible.co.uk say "Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book - The Mowgli Stories is available for FREE here. 25p from every download goes to help ZSL build a future for wildlife. This 3-hour audio adaptation of a children’s classic has been brought to life by many well-known voices from British film, TV, radio and comedy, including Bill Bailey as Baloo, Richard E Grant as Kaa and Martin Shaw as Shere Khan.

The partnership between Audible.co.uk and ZSL will help highlight the plight of many of the animals who featured in The Jungle Book and are under threat in the wild, such as the Bengal tiger (Shere Khan). The creation of India’s tiger reserves in the 1970s helped to stabilise numbers, but poaching to meet a growing demand from Asia in recent years has once again put the Bengal tiger at risk. The sloth bear (represented by Baloo), which could once be found throughout India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh, is now threatened by hunting and habitat loss. Sloth bear numbers continue to decline and it is now listed as vulnerable by IUCN."

Hello MNTowers - the link doesn't appear to work; it says Error and asks for a promotional code.

Or am I being silly?

AngelieMumsnet · 01/09/2015 15:59

Hi Greymalkin - sorry about that, both links should hopefully be working now?

OP posts:
Greymalkin · 01/09/2015 16:45

nope :(

InAndOfMyself · 01/09/2015 19:11

It worked for me

abuhamzamouse · 01/09/2015 20:39

No I need a promotional code.

BathshebaDarkstone · 01/09/2015 20:54

Same thing just happened to me. Sad

Allgunsblazing · 01/09/2015 21:04

Nope

cornflakegirl · 01/09/2015 21:41

I need a code too

Theimpossiblegirl · 01/09/2015 21:53

Worked fine for me. Thanks Mumsnet! We'll listen to it in the car and get back to you.

AGnu · 02/09/2015 01:45

If you search for Jungle Book on the Audible website it says it's free until Sept 8th anyway.

I'm intrigued to know why it's 8+. I'll have to listen to it first but my 4yo loves audio books so I might let him listen to it if there's nothing too terrifying in it.

AGnu · 02/09/2015 01:48

Non-code-requiring link

Don't know if MNHQ need us to use their specific link, once it's working, though!

BathshebaDarkstone · 02/09/2015 07:57

Thanks AGnu, that worked. Is that ok HQ? Smile

Greymalkin · 03/09/2015 08:06

Thanks AGnu, that works fine.

MNHQ - hope this method is I with you?

AngelieMumsnet · 04/09/2015 15:00

Ooh, fab - will download this for the docs in the morning. Thank you!

asuwere · 05/09/2015 17:04

I've just downloaded it, if it helps angeliemumsnet the second link which says 'audio book here' gave an error but the first link 'FREE here' worked.
Thanks :)

DS loved it. I always manage to throw in effects whenever I'm reading a story to him and change my tone to match the story, but this was obviously done by people better than me (as confirmed by DS lol). As I'm apparently a 'girl', I have a girly voice and even my aggressive voices can't match the male tones, so he liked that a lot and it was interesting enough for him to finish it off.

ElectroNymph · 06/09/2015 06:26

Daughter enjoyed it, she listened intently which is a rarity! It's nice to see that classic stories are still appealing to children.

ThemisA · 06/09/2015 06:34

My niece and nephew listened while colouring and we all had a well earned break!

janeyf1 · 06/09/2015 08:53

DC enjoyed it - glad she enjoyed such the Classic. A refreshing change from the modern short stories that tend to be instantly forgettable

pgwynne · 06/09/2015 09:07

Both of my children loved listening to this lovely story and wanted to act out some of the characters.

KittyKat88 · 06/09/2015 09:45

Wow - the first thing to say is "AMAZING"!! From the opening introduction, when the sound effects helps put the listener right in the middle of the jungle, to the classic opening lines of this wonderful story! It brings Kipling's iconic story alive for a whole new generation! Ths is a superb quality recording enhanced using the varied voices of a stellar cast of top British acting talent. My DD (age 5) was really interested in understanding what was happening - she asked lots of questions about the animals that are mentioned/featured, as well as enjoying Mowgli's story. It is truly wonderful to share the original story with both my DDs, who sadly only knew Disney's version up to now. This is an audio book that we will listen to again and again! I also really hope that it helps to highlight the plight of these incredible animals, who have sadly been under threat of extinction for far too long Sad A big thumbs up for this excellent Audible book and 10/10 from both of my DDs and I Smile

hiddenmichelle · 06/09/2015 10:08

We all really enjoyed this - but probably me more than anyone - love love love this tale!

alsproject · 06/09/2015 10:09

My little boy loved it as before now he only knew of the character from the Disney version as he had no interest in the book

brittanyfairies · 06/09/2015 10:14

This is superb, the sound effects, the actors' voices, it was excellent.

DS1(13) has really loved it, he's listened to it a couple of times at bedtime now. DS2(10) didn't want to listen to it, purely based on the fact that he thought the Disney cartoon was rubbish - he was really against the whole idea of it. He's another one that listens to audiobooks at bedtime, and his latest one wasn't very long so when it finished he listened to this until we get another credit on Audible and he really enjoyed it.

So well done Audible on another successful audio book.
