Audible.co.uk has produced a new full-cast dramatisation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book – The Mowgli Stories, in association with charity partner the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), and they'd love to hear Mumsnetters' thoughts on it.

Audible.co.uk say "Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book - The Mowgli Stories is available for FREE here. 25p from every download goes to help ZSL build a future for wildlife. This 3-hour audio adaptation of a children’s classic has been brought to life by many well-known voices from British film, TV, radio and comedy, including Bill Bailey as Baloo, Richard E Grant as Kaa and Martin Shaw as Shere Khan.

The partnership between Audible.co.uk and ZSL will help highlight the plight of many of the animals who featured in The Jungle Book and are under threat in the wild, such as the Bengal tiger (Shere Khan). The creation of India’s tiger reserves in the 1970s helped to stabilise numbers, but poaching to meet a growing demand from Asia in recent years has once again put the Bengal tiger at risk. The sloth bear (represented by Baloo), which could once be found throughout India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh, is now threatened by hunting and habitat loss. Sloth bear numbers continue to decline and it is now listed as vulnerable by IUCN."

We've really enjoyed it so far. Although it's an exciting story and there are lots of background noises, it was relaxing too. I'm looking forward to the next instalment as much as anyone! I was able to pick out a few famous voices too, great cast.

My daughter enjoyed it, especially the sounds, she's listened a couple of times now and it still has the same effect!

My DD really enjoyed the music and voices which bring the story to life (much better than I could ever do!). My husband oloved it too, so it's a winner all round.

I downloaded this for my 11yr old DD and she loves it. She is an avid reader and a lover of audiobooks and says that this is one of her favourites now.

Beautiful, and very easy to listen to
The music is just right and really adds to the story
My little one enjoyed listening to it, but we did it in 'bite size' chunks, as 2 hours would be too long

Lovely, thank you - we're going on a long journey on Saturday, so this will pass the time nicely.

ahbollocks · 24/09/2015 17:49

We listened to this while we made cheese scones this afternoon :) we loved the animal noises and was a lovely change from having the radio on. I recognised a few voices but I can't think who the devil they are!!
Going to recommend it to my mum - was her favourite story as a kid

bigsnugglebunny · 28/09/2015 13:34

Well, we listened to it on our long journey - and it's wonderful! Luckily I was nearly home by the time it finished, as that ending made me cry (it always did in the book too!)

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 28/09/2015 16:44

Oh this is lovely! Made a long car journey a lot more bearable. DD did hope that there was some kind of book to go along with it so that she could follow the words.

It was very nicely done though, would be keen to hear more in this vein.

We loved it. So nice to spend time with children encouraging imagination. We often listen to audio cds at bed but to create family time doing this was brilliant
