With the Easter long weekend fast approaching, we have been asked by the team at Lidl to find out your top tips and traditions for the bank holiday weekend.

Please share on this thread what makes a perfect Easter weekend for you and your family.

Do you celebrate with a big family get-together and meal? Or take it as a chance to catch on some long overdue jobs round the house and garden? Do you get all crafty in the run up with bonnets and cards? Or are you a baking goddess rustling up your own hot cross buns? And what do you do with any left over chocolate? Do you have family traditions which you have developed over the years - please share them here!

Add your comment and you'll be entered into a prize draw where five MNers will each win a £50 voucher for Lidl.

Please note that any comments posted on this thread may be used by Lidl in further marketing material (anonymously, of course)

Thanks and good luck

We just like having 4 whole days off together! We'll take the opportunity to do some really long bike rides, and maybe go to the point to point races (local tradition)

ThisIsOurBlanket · 17/03/2015 09:29

We will visit family, go to church, have a big meal of roast lamb together, eat lots of hot cross buns.

I will do an egg hunt for the DC - lots of little foil wrapped eggs and then one bigger egg (I usually get the ones in a metal tin) hidden somewhere in the garden. Unless it is raining in which case I might have to hide them in the house instead...

A lovely lamb dinner with the in-laws, hot cross buns readily available in the bread bin throughout the long weekend, a lovely chocolate egg from husband, and a relaxing weekend doing bits and bobs round the house. Maybe a trip to Ikea if we take leave of our senses for long enough to drive there. .Smile

So far we have an Easter egg hunt planned and a trip to a National Trust property to take part in their activities too. We'll top off the weekend with a big family dinner as we have extended family coming to visit.

No real set traditions here. I think this year it will be boiled eggs for breakfast, a garden egg hunt followed by some fresh air then home for afternoon tea and a DVD.

thesoupdragon44 · 17/03/2015 10:11

we have a chilled Easter, either visiting family or spending time in the garden, its a great time to catch up on all the jobs that need doing.

BathshebaDarkstone · 17/03/2015 10:30

Easter egg hunt on Sunday morning then DD buggers off to DGA's for 6 days. Grin

Fevertree · 17/03/2015 10:34

our First daughter will be only 15 months at easter so we are starting to create some family traditions now. On actual easter Sunday, I think we will go to church, have a nice afternoon walk then back for a roast dinner.

georgedawes · 17/03/2015 10:44

We never used to really celebrate Easter when I was a child so this is all a bit new to me! Apparently the Easter Bunny comes on Easter day, so dd tells me, so that will obviously need to happen. I think we will also go to an Easter Egg hunt at a local country house and we will also be spending time with family, making the most of the bank holidays!

I think we'll also have a go at egg decorating.

BigFatFurryCatPuss · 17/03/2015 10:44

We have 3 dcs and we have an Easter egg hunt in the garden (weather permitting!) and around the house for them in the morning - they can eat chocolate for breakfast Grin. Then in the afternoon my parents and in-laws come round for a big family lunch - Roast Lamb & mint sauce with all the trimmings.

In the run up to Easter we also make decorations for the house, lots of glue and glitter and mini chicks!

Exploring historic monuments - an annual subscription to CADW / English Heritage makes this really worthwhile

TracyKNixon · 17/03/2015 10:52

I always organise an Easter Egg hunt with my children and we bake Easter nest cakes and chick shaped biscuites too. We always go to my parents for a traditional Easter dinner of lamb and lots of veg!

TooManyNames · 17/03/2015 10:55

We do a mini egg/treasure hunt in the garden for DS. It's usually the time of year when we sort all the garden furniture out too. Re-vamp etc.

If it's raining it usually turns into a kinda arts and crafts session - painting pebbles into stripy eggs, cutting up cardboard into little Easter bunnies. Grin

My sister and husband always take my husband, son, and i on a little break foe Easter. It has been to Isle of Wight for last few years, but this Easter they've booked us all into a caravan park in Cornwall. Its so kind of them. Its the only holiday my family get :)

jodiecrossley1 · 17/03/2015 11:15

lizd31 · 17/03/2015 11:18

xxgeexx · 17/03/2015 11:24

my favorite tradition has to be the easter egg hunt my mum used to do this with us and now we do it with the kids xxxx

Chopstheduck · 17/03/2015 11:28

a break away, with not an egg in sight!

rachheap2014 · 17/03/2015 11:29

I tend to like staying at home over Easter, if the weather is nice going to the local park, I once went out on an Easter Sunday and the traffic was a nightmare so never again!

prwilson · 17/03/2015 11:30

Lots of chocolate!

diamondsrock · 17/03/2015 11:33

We always get together with my parents, siblings and nieces/nephews for a big family dinner. It's often lamb but some years we'll vary it, everyone brings a dish. We make up an Easter egg hunt for the children around the house.

Dolallytats · 17/03/2015 11:35

We'll have a nice roast dinner together and will do an Easter egg hunt for DS, 6.

Ethan260908 · 17/03/2015 11:40

Some cycle rides provided the weather is fine and a trip to the beach for an ice cream. Nice and low key

tabbaz123 · 17/03/2015 11:54

We love Easter Egg Hunts - We often attend a huge one arranged by a Marina and really enjoy - followed by a pig roast :)

maryandbuzz1 · 17/03/2015 11:54

We always have a family meal and my son and I love to dress the corkscrew hazel branch I have with Easter/ Spring decorations. We also love having an Easter egg hunt in the garden.
