With the Easter long weekend fast approaching, we have been asked by the team at Lidl to find out your top tips and traditions for the bank holiday weekend.

Please share on this thread what makes a perfect Easter weekend for you and your family.

Do you celebrate with a big family get-together and meal? Or take it as a chance to catch on some long overdue jobs round the house and garden? Do you get all crafty in the run up with bonnets and cards? Or are you a baking goddess rustling up your own hot cross buns? And what do you do with any left over chocolate? Do you have family traditions which you have developed over the years - please share them here!

Add your comment and you'll be entered into a prize draw where five MNers will each win a £50 voucher for Lidl.

Please note that any comments posted on this thread may be used by Lidl in further marketing material (anonymously, of course)

Thanks and good luck

I insist on starting the day with a toasted hot cross bun (!)... if possible, I like to squeeze in a roast dinner (preferably lamb) with family.
I'm not a big chocolate eater (shock horror!), so the easter egg thing usually passes me by...but I do like to munch down as many hot cross buns as humanly possible!
I'm currently pregnant, so look forward to doing easter egg hunts and egg painting in future years... but for this year, I'm going to try to relax and enjoy the last few weeks of 'couple life' before everything changes!! x

We enjoy spending time together as a family and eating nice food. I always do roast lamb with all the trimmings and make a cake. Not forgetting chocolate eggs! Grin

We have no Easter tradition. This year I'll celebrate at home by simply spending quality time with hubby and kids

ouryve · 18/03/2015 18:56

We often take advantage of the long weekend to go and stay with my parents for a couple of nights.

And it will be our first completely egg free Easter. Chocolate triggers migraines for both the boys.

Meet up with family and do an Easter Egg hunt.
Decorate eggs.
Branch with little hanging decorations.
Roast lamb lunch.
Some years we have a few days away in the uk.
This year we're getting a Piñata.

Easter tradition - inherited from my half-German mother - an easter Egg hunt in the garden or park (or inside the house if it is freezing!).

Cambam2010 · 19/03/2015 11:37

We normally celebrate Easter with a big family meal. It usually falls on my sisters birthday so it is a double celebration. My sister lives on a farm and it is the perfect setting for an easter egg hurt with my DS and my neice and nephew. There are also a fair few hills around so we will do some egg rolling as well.

My DS and I will blow some eggs and decorate them. I imagine this years theme will be Minecraft characters!

Church meditation on the Friday, family meal on Sunday and an Easter egg hunt, hopefully outside, weather permitting! Meal won't be lamb though as I can't even stand the smell. Most likely roast duck.

Tip - get your Egg Hunt eggs early so you aren't just left with the slightly bashed bags, and save small baskets eg from flower arrangements to collect them in.

Best thing we do is have an Easter egg hunt in the garden - it's always looking lovely at this time of year with blossom on the apple trees and spring flowers. I get some hand-sized/ egg sized eggs - this year I have them ready and waiting in the cupboard - and are from LIDL too! (not everywhere does them!!) Last year we noticed there were four colours to our shiny foil eggs so each of us (DH, me and 2DC) hid one colour of egg around the garden, and then we each went to look for another colour. Was a lovely start to the day Smile
So this has become something of a new family tradition - though a lovely Aunt of mine did once do an Easter egg hunt for me and my siblings with little foil eggs hidden in her cottage garden Thanks

We always celebrate with one set of grandparents, and do crafting and bonding afterwards in the second week of the half-term.

We also always make our own (very simple Poundshop) Easter cards.

roggy45 · 19/03/2015 14:13

We have family time together. Go to church, have a nice meal. My son now loves baking so he makes delicious goodies for tea.

We will hopefully enjoy some nice weather so walks or bike rides will feature.

Testing

hermancakedestroyer · 19/03/2015 16:07

We like to get involved with an Easter egg hunt, followed by a tasty roast and then a lovely, relaxing walk on the beach.

Ritakd · 19/03/2015 17:12

We always have Easter Eggs for breakfast before going out for a country hike. Then home home for a slap up roast dinner.

Lots of crafts :) enjoy crafts anyway so Easter just gets used as a theme

Easter egg hunt is a must :) for big kids (adults!) more than the little ones!

Leftover Easter eggs are turned into krispy cakes or tiffin for the whole family/friends to enjoy

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/03/2015 17:31

Leftover Easter eggs for the DC from over generous relatives have been known to find their way into my secret treat cupboard to be enjoyed - slightly guiltily perhaps - at wine O'clock Wine

hanliying · 19/03/2015 18:36

We hide multiple kinder surprise eggs in reception room for kids to find

FluffyPingPong · 19/03/2015 18:42

We don't do anything special, just enjoy some relaxing time off work and spend time together as a family... With chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate of course!! Grin

FluffyPingPong · 19/03/2015 18:43

Leftover chocolate? Who on earth has leftover chocolate?! Hmm

FourAndDone · 19/03/2015 19:27

A few days together to eat spring lamb, chocolate eggs, watch films and work it all off at the park after!Grin

mummymerser · 19/03/2015 19:50

Time off work, big celebrations at church, lots of chocolate, family time, bank holiday movies on TV, decorating eggs and rolling them down a hill :-D
