With the Easter long weekend fast approaching, we have been asked by the team at Lidl to find out your top tips and traditions for the bank holiday weekend.

Please share on this thread what makes a perfect Easter weekend for you and your family.

Do you celebrate with a big family get-together and meal? Or take it as a chance to catch on some long overdue jobs round the house and garden? Do you get all crafty in the run up with bonnets and cards? Or are you a baking goddess rustling up your own hot cross buns? And what do you do with any left over chocolate? Do you have family traditions which you have developed over the years - please share them here!

Add your comment and you'll be entered into a prize draw where five MNers will each win a £50 voucher for Lidl.

Please note that any comments posted on this thread may be used by Lidl in further marketing material (anonymously, of course)

Thanks and good luck

We make the most of the long weekend, to catch up with DIY jobs and spend time with family.

lukeosaurusandme · 29/03/2015 21:35

This is our first Easter as a family and with Luke being old enough to understand it. We're planning a nice long walk, an Easter egg hunt, feeding the ducks and lots of Easter crafts to decorate the house. Also, a huge roast dinner!

Egg decorating and an Easter egg hunt with all the family together for a meal.

deanhead1 · 29/03/2015 22:01

spending the day with the family. going to church easter sunday followed by easter dinner and an easter egg hunt

AliceLidlsWhiteChocolateRabbit · 29/03/2015 22:02

We have an egg hunt around the house, usually ending at an easter basket full of the main chocolate treats. And given my name, I'm sure you can guess where we get most of those treats. Last year we had the hen, this year it's the white lamb.

We also decorate an easter tree, with some home made and some bought decorations.

We've got a large wooden bunny to go with it this year, he's lovely.

And we usually make a roast lamb dinner, it's usually very festive and sometimes helped by it being DS's birthday, just to make it even more of a party.

Then we like to take the dogs out to the woods to help walk it all off again.

My husband's Birthday often falls at Easter and our girls like to make an extra special fuss of him as we do of them. We make a special Easter Birthday cake and then like to go for a long walk on the beach followed by eating a bag of chips together on the sea front. If it's not too cold, we have an ice cream too then start on our Easter eggs when we get home. A fun time but full of lots of naughty calories!

I bake and kids craft with all our families around for hols..

butterfly2015 · 29/03/2015 22:20

Big get together with friends on Saturday at a friend's farm, lots of games for the kids.

Easter Sunday will be an Easter egg hunt for my kids which involve clues and sending them all over the house and garden.

Lovely roast dinner too.

I love Easter, it's great fun making the clues and watching the kids running about. Even the 16 year old still loves it.

webkin · 29/03/2015 23:02

My mum sister and niece are going away to Weymouth. Staying on a Haven site...just like we used to do as kids. My niece loves Haven...she would rather go there than Disneyland!

tubbyj · 30/03/2015 00:02

Get away somewhere normally just over the channel for some family time together

GatoradeMeBitch · 30/03/2015 00:26

We have a big family meal at my Dad's house, and all the kids take part in an elaborate easter egg hunt before lunch. Dad spends days working out where to hide them and writing clues!

piggypoo · 30/03/2015 08:19

Easter egg hunt in the garden for all the little ones, if it's raining we have that indoors, it tires them out while I do a family meal for everyone, it's a lovely time and I treasure it! :)

babymumbles · 30/03/2015 08:51

Easter is always a big family tradition, we all have a big roast dinner, an easter egg hunt for the kiddies and play games :)

nonnyno · 30/03/2015 09:19

Everyone gets involved in a huge Easter egg hunt!

fluffyblueberry · 30/03/2015 09:33

We're having a big easter hunt at my parents. Then I'm making a nut loaf because my husband is eating less meat now after being on a juice fast for 60 days and my mum is a vegetarian. So, I will make that with piles of roasted veggies. Making a lemon & ginger cheesecake for pudding. Our tradition is just the egg hunt followed by a good meal!

tishist · 30/03/2015 09:40

Seeing how long the chocolate lasts!

CastielsClevererBetterSister · 30/03/2015 09:45

My family (DH, me and 2 out of 3 DCs ) struggle with weight issues. Therefore our Easter bunny will leave the little chocolate eggs with shiny wrappers around the garden for the Easter egg hunt but we don't get 'big' Easter eggs. Our Easter bunny leaves craft goodies or outdoor toys. Then we have a fabulous walk along the beach where the bunny may have dropped a few more little eggs.

TiggersAngel7774 · 30/03/2015 10:19

get together with nice roast dinner for all the family and few bottles of wine for good measure

lindat4683 · 30/03/2015 10:21

lkash20 · 30/03/2015 11:43

I love Easter! We are very lucky that with my husband being a teacher we get to spend two weeks together. In the week before Easter weekend we have lots of fun making Easter Bonnets, decorating eggs, and doing lots of baking. Were not big fans of hot cross buns, but we do make mini egg nests, creme egg cheesecake and muffins decorated with an easter theme. For Easter Weekend we then always go away for a weekend, this year we are off to a holiday park in North Wales, and we always make our own Easter Egg hunt for the kids. On Easter Sunday we always go out for lunch as a family, and on Easter Monday we usually go to a fabulous place called Greenwood Forest park who fun an eco friendly adventure park. They always have lots of Easter themed fun activities to do!

nanoobaku · 30/03/2015 12:12

Tend not to make too much of easter , play it by ear and enjoy the eggs that come our way

chriskeenan86 · 30/03/2015 12:16

A big family roast dinner and activities for the young ones like an easter egg hunt.

mummsie72 · 30/03/2015 12:22

Easter egg hunts always is a hit followed by a pub lunch so we all have a rest from the chores.

beautifulsimplicity · 30/03/2015 12:47

eat lots of chocco

AndHarry · 30/03/2015 13:08

We always go camping for the weekend at a lovely site in North Wales, with church followed by an Easter egg hunt in the woods. The DC love it :) This year we're going to the Peak District for a change but I don't know if anything can beat the previous years' fun...
