With the Easter long weekend fast approaching, we have been asked by the team at Lidl to find out your top tips and traditions for the bank holiday weekend.

Please share on this thread what makes a perfect Easter weekend for you and your family.

Do you celebrate with a big family get-together and meal? Or take it as a chance to catch on some long overdue jobs round the house and garden? Do you get all crafty in the run up with bonnets and cards? Or are you a baking goddess rustling up your own hot cross buns? And what do you do with any left over chocolate? Do you have family traditions which you have developed over the years - please share them here!

Add your comment and you'll be entered into a prize draw where five MNers will each win a £50 voucher for Lidl.

Please note that any comments posted on this thread may be used by Lidl in further marketing material (anonymously, of course)

Thanks and good luck

We spend it with family. My parents live over 2 hours away so they are coming to visit, I will cook a big dinner for us all and the children will enjoy an easter egg hunt.

We usually bake hot cross buns & Easter cakes on Good Friday. We do Easter crafts too and I've started decorating the house with Easter decorations the past couple of years. On Easter Sunday, I get up super early and set up the Easter egg hunt in the garden - or indoors if the weather is bad. We usually see family in the afternoon and then go out for a meal in the early evening. On Easter Monday we usually visit an open farm & dairy ice-cream shop but if the weather isn't so great we might have a DVD day instead!

We always decorate eggs on Good Friday and on Easter Sunday we go the park and roll them down the big hill. Then back home for a roast dinner and lots of Easter Eggs.

We have a large extended family lunch on Easter Sunday and an Easter egg hunt for the children.

Last Easter my mum and I took my LO to the local farm where he was able to feed the baby lambs and ride on a tractor. He absolutely loved it.

This weekend, we will be going home. We work away and travel home (me, DH and DD) at the weekends but have been unable to get home for the last 2 weekends. We've built our own home so the weekend will involve DIY and finding a landscape gardener. We are also guaranteed to visit Lidl for the weekly shop and stock up on Easter goodies they do a nice range of dark chocolate as DD does not like milk chocolate.

We always have a roast dinner, then Easter Eggs for dessert!

We're busy making our own traditions - we've done an (foil wrapped) egg hunt in the garden the last few years and normally have a roast leg of lamb, preferably welsh if available. I have made mini egg simnel cake, but as I'm on a (stupid breastfeeding related) dairy free diet this year, everyone will have to miss out!

OH is travelling with work over Easter, so it'll be lower key. Planning to take kids to 2 egg hunts in museums over the 4 days, one very close and one as more of a day trip.

easter egg hunt

The first thing that makes a brilliant Easter weekend is beautifully warm sunny weather. Coming a close second is delicious food from the wide selection available at Lidl.
A tasty roast always goes down well plus some homebaking such as Hot Cross Buns and Simnel Cake are most important for my family, followed by an Easter egg hunt for the little ones.
Let's not forget some cheeky gorging on Easter eggs, magnifique! Grin

Always a fish pie on Good Friday and then a big family get together over the weekend...

Easter egg hunt followed by a roast dinner and some sort of chocolate pudding.

I absolutely love Easter as Spring is in the air, the days are getting longer and summer holidays are on the horizon!

MadMonkeys · 31/03/2015 10:15

We don't celebrate Easter as such, but will enjoy then family time together and spend a day walking in Derbyshire with a picnic etc.
