With the Easter long weekend fast approaching, we have been asked by the team at Lidl to find out your top tips and traditions for the bank holiday weekend.

Please share on this thread what makes a perfect Easter weekend for you and your family.

Do you celebrate with a big family get-together and meal? Or take it as a chance to catch on some long overdue jobs round the house and garden? Do you get all crafty in the run up with bonnets and cards? Or are you a baking goddess rustling up your own hot cross buns? And what do you do with any left over chocolate? Do you have family traditions which you have developed over the years - please share them here!

Add your comment and you'll be entered into a prize draw where five MNers will each win a £50 voucher for Lidl.

Please note that any comments posted on this thread may be used by Lidl in further marketing material (anonymously, of course)

Thanks and good luck

Love Easter as its 'new life'. We love Easter egg decoration according to age, and the love egg hunt using 'plastic' eggs for fun
Provided the weather is kind a lovely walk by the beach, fresh air and the smell of water.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 17/03/2015 22:50

It all depends on the weather, if it's sunny as I've heard its expected it to be, then we will spend the majority of the Easter break outside. Going for a long walk with the dog, gardening and cycling. Maybe visit a national Trust place such as a castle.
On Easter Sunday we give our easter eggs in the morning, hot cross buns have already started to be eaten now once they're in the shops, we don't eat them just at Easter!

And as for leftover chocolate well I should imagine it'll all be gone by the end of the week Smile

We do an Easter egg hunt round the house where they gather eggs with letters in/on from which they have to make a word. The wordd will lead them to a treasure chest with a few presents ( nothing special)

Always make hot cross buns usually without the cross because we can't bothered but buttered;).

Generally seem to relax and kids will re do the egg hunt many times over...

We always have an Easter egg hunt, rain or shine! We tend to eat roast lamb (as you can sometimes get a good offer on it) and I love a piece of simnel cake, but unfortunately I am the only one so I have to search out a very small cake or a pack of slices. We tend to have one big day out, castles are a favourite destination at the moment. Hopefully if the weather is nice we will all get outside and start digging the veg patch.

Often a good time to get some gardening done, especially if the weather is good. Although thus year we will hopefully be starting to think about packing for a house move

Mummageddon · 18/03/2015 05:47

This year we're using nectar points to buy our easter roast and treats, and double up points where we can.
Every year I do an easter egg hunt for the family, slightly different themes each time. I've been doing it for 12 years ever since me and DH got together but now he has to share with the children!

FawcettSA · 18/03/2015 06:53

Easter Sunday is always a big family get together over lunch, this year it's my mum's turn ;) and then Easter Monday depends on the weather, if it's nice we like to go somewhere for a walk with the dog, if it's not so nice we usually go off to the cinema

chickensandbees · 18/03/2015 08:23

We will go to church on sunday (where there will be eggs).

There will also be an easter egg hunt at home for the kids.

Also there are childrens church service on the saturday and an easter egg hunt and bonnet competition in the village so we will go to those.

definitely a church and chocolate focus!!

mumtowoo1 · 18/03/2015 10:00

My perfect Easter weekend is spending time with my two girls and hubby enjoying a sunday roast and a great family film while eating our eggs.

chrisfc99 · 18/03/2015 10:04

We normally spend Easter Saturday in the garden - planting vegetables & flowers (as long as it's sunny). Easter Sunday it's church, then a relaxing afternoon, before a family get-together meal in the evening. Easter Monday is a day out.

vixxx666 · 18/03/2015 10:49

Just spending the weekend together is enough for me :)

livinginthefastlane · 18/03/2015 11:13

Usually I sneek out for communion in the early morning then we all go for family church service which involves an egg hut for the children then rolling boiled eggs down the hill on the way home for a roast dinner.

joanf · 18/03/2015 11:25

Off to beach, never mind the weather, kids love it.

ChristmasName · 18/03/2015 11:48

DIY- though always forget B&Q etc can't open on the Sunday- drives e bonkers

thewomaninwhite · 18/03/2015 11:57

No real traditions as yet. We did an Egg hunt last year and I will do one again. I am not a baking goddess but do aim to make chick biscuits.

skyeskyeskye · 18/03/2015 12:39

I don't have any Easter traditions. When married, we always used to go away for the weekend, but now its just me and DD, we don't really do anything.

I have taken her to an easter egg hunt, but a lot of them round here seem to be a week before Easter, not on easter weekend!

sharond101 · 18/03/2015 13:06

We hide chocolate eggs in the garden and see who can find the most. We then paint boiled eggs and roll them in the Country Park.

cakeandjelly · 18/03/2015 13:07

We love to meet up with family for and Easter Egg hunt and a roast dinner followed by board games.

my4kids · 18/03/2015 13:23

We make Easter dinner really fun. I tell everyone that they can choose one thing to put on the menu and we just go for it. One year, we had roast beef, mac and cheese, peanut butter sandwiches, tacos, fruit salad, and Yorkshire pudding.

julieef · 18/03/2015 13:25

An ester egg with the whole family, and of course dry weather so they can be hidden out the garden

devonshiredumpling2 · 18/03/2015 14:47

Go for a walk in the local park and feed the ducks and birds and enjoy eating Hot Cross Buns by the seaside. I can imagine many did this before us and many after us!

mynellie · 18/03/2015 15:22

we like to slob out and spend some time together as a family watching films and eating those gorgeous easter eggs until we pop

StickChildNumberTwo · 18/03/2015 15:25

Church stuff and catching up with friends is our plan for the weekend. And I need to get organised to make Easter lemon cake.

freefan · 18/03/2015 16:00

In the run up we always make some Easter cards and the kids get baking for family. On Easter day we will get decorating the eggs and get out for a big picnic and some egg rolling fun as a family, Then home for a DVD and some chocolate :)

poopoopoo · 18/03/2015 16:46

On Easter Sunday we like to have a cooked breakfast then go for a long walk. Then in the afternoon we go round mums and eat a big roast dinner. The kids have an easter egg hunt round the garden. Then we have a drink, and relax in front of a funny family film while the kids stuff themselves with chocolate.
For the other days I like to see whats going on in town or at the museums, I like to try to do something fun with the kids. Swimming might be something we will be doing on the saturday, cooking and making easter cards. On the Monday we tend to make rice crispy cakes with the left over chocolate.
