The team at Hobbycraft would like to find out the arts and crafts activities you will be doing with your DCs this February half term holiday.

Here’s what Hobbycraft say, “As parents ourselves we know what a challenge it can be to keep the kids entertained away for the TV so for the sake of mum’s everywhere who are in need of inspiration we’d love to know what is your favourite crafting activity to do with the kids?”

The February half term is a tough one on most parents with the weather often keeping children cooped up inside. So what theme will your February half term holiday take? Will you be baking hot goodies to stave off the dreary weather? Will you re-create the outdoors inside by making an indoor den and scenery from recycling? Whatever it is, we want to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where three lucky Mumsnetters will win a £100 Hobbycraft gift card.

Thanks and good luck!

I had surgery a few days ago so i am not sure what we will be doing yet :(

CointreauVersial · 14/02/2015 14:51

My DDs love a bit of art and craft. DD2 has a homework project to make a room set using a shoebox, and is having loads of fun with it.

We did actually pop to Hobbycraft and kitted her out with some fabric to make bedding, and some clay to model some furniture. She is going to paint a window with a sunset and we'll find some carpet offcuts for the floor.

Baking is ever popular here, but I haven't yet persuaded them to cook a family dinner. Grin

I will be taking them down the park and for some nice walks around the lake so we can feed the swans and geese. We are also going to see the Peppa Pig film this week. I will be working some days, but my parents will have plans to take them out and about.

Well thanks to school, I'll be helping them make a bloody pirate ship and a rain forest diorama. Years five and three. Brilliant. Sorry hobby craft, I'd love to do the fun stuff they're want like fabric painting etx but by the time we've done the enforced craft stuff I have no money or time for it.

MrsWeasley · 14/02/2015 17:31

We will no doubt be baking something yummy, Brownies, cookies and cakes. We may do some Tye -Dye or make some bird seed cakes and we will be making a Pirate outfit for my DH.

Just bought a brilliant mini sewing machine for dd from hobbycraft. She is 4 and has the sewing bug. We made Valentines tote bags with felt hearts on today, and she wants to make the fox outfit as seen on the sewing bee. We will also be painting plant pots, making an ivy mobile and drawing portraits of each other

veronica888 · 14/02/2015 17:43

with luck I managed to get some good sale items on crafts from hobbycraft recently, which means now we can start to do all sorts of fun crafts especially for easter coming up, making paper-mache eggs, decorating them, attaching glued coloured string to balloons, drying and then bursting the balloon to leave this amazing sculpture! I am also getting the kids to design there special cake for nearer the time.

We have cardboard Xmas decorations and eggs to paint in easter colours to send to the grandparents. My daughter also got canvasses so wants to work on her art. We also make clay food together to sell on her etsy account.

cooljammer37 · 14/02/2015 23:54

We plan to have baking days and make some treats before our outdoor days beach walking and trekking through the woods with our dogs. We have lots of stuff we have collected to have craft days making whatever takes my daughter's fancy. Can't wait love spending time doing things with her, she is growing up too fast!

SpaghettiMeatballs · 15/02/2015 07:50

Going to go to Hobbycraft today to stock up. Mine are pre-school so no half term but we love to craft here.

Going to try decoupage with my 3 year old.

GetKnitted · 15/02/2015 09:10

Making trains and stuff with mostly waste packaging

HappyHippyMama · 15/02/2015 09:45

We home educate so we mostly be hibernating to avoid the half term crowds. Lots of baking and den building!

openerofjars · 15/02/2015 10:43

I will be potty training 2yo DD, which means that DS (6yo) will be doing lots of baking, crafts, painting, board games and lego with us. Also, we will catch up on our Disney movies: yesterday we saw The Hunchback of Notre Dame and today might be Robin Hood.

Today, as DH is at home, I am going to take DS out for a stomp in the hills (and maybe pop into Sainsbos for some extra trousers for DD!) and then we're going to have a crafty afternoon. DH is going to do painting with DD, which will be a bit of a challenge novelty for both of them.

Oh, and I foresee lots of laundry in my near future...

openerofjars · 15/02/2015 10:51

Aw, strikeout fail Sad

Sjbrook1 · 15/02/2015 12:08

As a full time working mummy, I am fortunate to be able to take 2 days annual leave and I will be spending my much needed time with my little girl! She has a dairy allergy so we are going to bemoaning dairy free chocolate cake, and cupcakes and sharing them with the grandparents (which they always love no matter how they look or taste!). She absolutely loves painting so we are going to do some potato prints and finger painting and hopefully if we win some pennies to spend then I will spend it on whatever she wants to try as a new hobby! I think she would love to try other mediums of art, and I'm sure I would love it if she had some handmade knitted gloves or a scarf made by her mummy ??
With the ever busy world and technology being the first port of call for most children, I think that time spent together should be valued and give children and adults the ability to learn together! Creating a bond that will last forever ??

Sjbrook1 · 15/02/2015 12:11

Be making not bemoaning! Smile
