The team at Hobbycraft would like to find out the arts and crafts activities you will be doing with your DCs this February half term holiday.

Here’s what Hobbycraft say, “As parents ourselves we know what a challenge it can be to keep the kids entertained away for the TV so for the sake of mum’s everywhere who are in need of inspiration we’d love to know what is your favourite crafting activity to do with the kids?”

The February half term is a tough one on most parents with the weather often keeping children cooped up inside. So what theme will your February half term holiday take? Will you be baking hot goodies to stave off the dreary weather? Will you re-create the outdoors inside by making an indoor den and scenery from recycling? Whatever it is, we want to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where three lucky Mumsnetters will win a £100 Hobbycraft gift card.

Thanks and good luck!

We popped into Hobbycraft today for some bits and bobs to decorate pebbles from the beach. Impressed with the range and had to leave quickly...

Awakeagain · 16/02/2015 22:28

Ds 2 year and 3 months has been
Trying to cut with his own scissors today, later in the week we will hopefully be doing some BIG painting using vehicles and rolling them along a big bit of paper

reem1 · 16/02/2015 23:14

We will do lots of junk modelling out of cardboard boxes - trying to make a castle and the stage for puppets show.

Plus trips to the playground, cinema and ice-cream parlour.

Clearing out cupboards. Learning about prime numbers and apostrophes. I'm such a fun mum Grin

MaryWestmacott · 17/02/2015 12:16

So far, hamma beads. Lots and lots of the feckers.

The theme at school after the holidays is Superheroes, both fictional and real, so we are working on things to do with that.

For fictional superheroes, DS's current favourite is Spiderman, so I've made him a spiderman mask and wrist cuffs from felt and fabric paint.

And he has made peg doll superheroes and villains and we are making a cardboard city for them to battle in out of a giant box and some craft supplies.

We are also making easter decorations from felt and card, with sequins, buttons and pom poms and anything else we can use to stick on them to decorate them. DS especially likes the cardboard egg box egg cups we made that look like chickens, with a pack of feathers and some stick on eyes and foam pieces.

We are huge fans of making things out of cardboard - and stuff that usually ends up in the recycle bin. This was Elsas castle..

Made out of old packing materials cereal boxes, tea box and toilet roll tubes.

I find mixing normal emulsion with the childrens poster paint colours works better for coverage too on crafts like this - Great fun ^^

Well it's Wednesday tomorrow and as she's been out and about with friend tomorrow as I'm home we'll be going bowling with her friend and then I'll bring them back here and show them how to make fruit bowls out of lolly sticks. A few sticks and some pva (from hobbycraft (yay)) and I'm hoping they'll be amazed at their creations!

Baking, crafts, the park, the beach- lots of all of them! Plus maybe a cinema trip if they're lucky, and hopefully the Chinese New Year parade in Manchester. Crafts and baking have been valentines themed, shrove Tuesday and Chinese New Year.

letch · 18/02/2015 07:09

My daughters are competing in a dance festival this week. So no arts and crafts for us. However, I am propping up the local Hobbycraft store by constantly running in and out buying various ribbons, hair flowers and props that they need and already had but lost.

Hygellig · 18/02/2015 08:24

So far we've recreated some of the activities my son has done at school nursery - making butter and fat balls to feed garden birds. We have also done some painting and tried to make something from Mr Maker's website, which didn't look anything like on the TV! We have also been to the park and dug the garden and are going to sea life centre soon.

babs2209 · 18/02/2015 08:48

we will be making Easter Cards if stuck indoors
Tuesday making, tossing and eating pancakes :)
Thursday Chinese New Year so making paper lanterns, and Chinese food
and then generally out and about if the weather permits
we all like to read so it suits us to curl up with a good book!

Signoritawhocansway · 18/02/2015 11:44

My 18month old DS is just getting into scribbling, so we "draw" every day. He also loves sticker books, though most of them end up on him, or on items in the house! We also do some baking and he loves pretending to help in the garden

MagicAlwaysLeadsToTrouble · 18/02/2015 15:12

I am planning to do some necklace making with some bright rainbow coloured pony beads. My girls are almost 2 & 3.5 and they love making their own jewellery!

sadiewoohoo · 18/02/2015 16:12

Bowling on Tuesday, Shaun the Sheep on Wednesday and St PAtricks Day crafts on Friday

Reastie · 18/02/2015 18:51

So far we've made flapjacks, done cleaning (DD (4) thinks it's great to mop the floor Grin ), read stories, done painting and play doh, and lots of imaginary play.

lastlines · 18/02/2015 18:54

We've been:
painting canvases
making a 3D model landscape for some soldiers using junk modelling things, lots of pva glue, cardboard and papier mache.
baking
visiting an animal sanctuary
going to Lego Art of the Brick exhibition

Our family is arty but not very sporty so we tend to make stuff when we have free time.

DinoSnores · 18/02/2015 20:09

We've visited local museums and been to the cinema. We've also done some craft (making elephants out of toilet rolls!), a rainbow scavenger hunt, lots of reading, colouring, and tomorrow we'll be cooking together.

buckley1983 · 18/02/2015 20:52

We love to get messy in the kitchen! Scone pizzas with as many colourful topping as we can find, every colour pepper, ham, mushrooms, tomatoes - yum! I embrace the mess (it's the only way! :/) & I'll tidy it up when he's in bed! Gorgeous weather like today means we can get out & about - can't beat an old-fashioned running race!

MadMonkeys · 19/02/2015 09:27

DD1 (5y) has a box full of glitter, foam, fancy papers etc and she loves making things herself. Also loves hama beads, making bracelets etc and decorating boxes to be kennels for her toy dog.

cheryl100 · 19/02/2015 15:41

We have been to the zoo, go karting and a play centre!

strawberrisc · 19/02/2015 19:05

We are using all the Christmas cards and birthday cards (mine is December, hers is February) to make new, personalised cards.

Anj123 · 19/02/2015 22:17

So far we have made some fudge using ingredients I found in the cupboard. We also have some painting, card making, tapestry and cross stitch kits but I'm not sure we will have time to make them all!

eloisemummy · 19/02/2015 22:46

we have made some cool aqua beads creations, started on a paper mache mountains project and done a cool collage from scraps of mags and other bits n bobs up to now :)

nerysw · 20/02/2015 07:21

We've painted dinosaurs and made a whole load of artistic creations involving glue and glitter. I don't think the glitter will ever come out of the carpet!
