After the success of Breaking Bad, Watch With Mumsnet is back with Better Call Saul, a brand new Original series from Netflix.

In this dark comedic prequel to the Emmy-winning Breaking Bad, we meet ambitious small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill six years before he becomes Walter White’s morally challenged attorney, Saul Goodman. We follow as Jimmy (played by Bob Odenkirk) transforms from an optimistic underdog struggling to make ends meet into the notorious legal legend who puts the criminal in 'criminal lawyer'.

With one episode being released on Netflix each week we’d like you to visit the thread at different points throughout the season and let us know your thoughts on what’s going on. We’ll be updating the thread with new topics of discussion surrounding each week’s episode. Episodes will be release every Tuesday only on Netflix. Everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a Toshiba 40” Full HD Freeview HD Smart LED TV* and 6 month Netflix subscription, a further 5 Mumsnetters will win a Better Call Saul goodybag.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

I hope this isn't too spoilery, but they meet Saul after Badger, Jessie's friend, gets arrested for dealing and Saul is assigned as his lawyer. The episode is 'Better Call Saul', episode 8 in Season 2.

ressyHedMair · 17/02/2015 12:14

Thanks.

when you say 'they meet' you mean for the first time? so the timeline is wrong in better call saul? although i imagine they had the writers watch and rewatch BB to make sure that they didn't get those details wrong.

aless02 · 17/02/2015 14:51

i love breaking bad, so can't wait to watch this!

ressyHedMair · 17/02/2015 16:20

gato thanks a million, I re-watched that episode on netflix and it was good to see walt and jessie meet saul.

But I still don't understand, who sent /appointed saul goodman to Badger!? It wasn't badger himself. He had no idea why Saul showed up.

Larnipoo · 17/02/2015 17:56

Two episodes in and hooked. Adored Breaking Bad, Saul Goodman was one of my favourite characters (and Mike). I love the look of the show, the pace (first episode has no dialogue for a good 5 mins, best actors don't need to say a lot!) and all the nods and winks to BB.

cheryl100 · 17/02/2015 20:15

We are still finishing breaking bad but are excited to see this new series! Let's hope it doesnt disappoint!

GatoradeMeBitch · 17/02/2015 20:16

All I can think ressy is that he was still doing court appointed work maybe?

I didn't enjoy tonights episode as much as the first two, maybe it'll grow on me after a rewatch. I loved the Saul/Mike scenes though.

webwoman05 · 17/02/2015 20:25

So enjoying Better Call Saul. It was interesting to see how and where the character of 'Saul' came from. Loved all the references to Breaking Bad and so enjoyed catching up with some old friends! Episode 2 was brilliant! Loved the 'getting the salsa stain out of the carpet scene!' Hoping to watch Episode 3 after the football tonight!

Cintacmrs123 · 17/02/2015 20:34

I never watched breaking bad but loved the camera work and black and white start in Saul. May actual have to give in and watch breaking bad as can't wait for next episode of saul

EternalBeauPlate · 17/02/2015 20:40

I did not think I could get over having No Breaking Bad to watch Shock it has taken me a long time to get it over it Grin
Watching Better Call Saul has helped fill the Breaking Bad shaped hole in my life.
I like Saul. Hes an odd but likeable character. I am glad Mike is in it. He is awesome. Great tv so far!

BOFster · 17/02/2015 23:35

Just watched the third episode- I love it. It's hard without a recap though to remember where we left it. I'm too used to bingewatching.

Bumbiscuits · 17/02/2015 23:38

As I said on the other thread, BCS makes me look forward to Tuesday evenings now.

I knew straight away the family weren't kidnapped but thought they were in the boat, not up a mountain.

Becles · 18/02/2015 07:16

Decided to hold off on watching the latest episode until next week so I can have a double episode binge - hoping that I'll be able to hold my nerve and not jump in.

MagersfonteinLugg · 18/02/2015 07:22

Episode 3 brilliant. Dark and funny at the same time.
Am re watching BB and its interesting watching 2 Sauls side by side.

ressyHedMair · 18/02/2015 08:06

yes gato it must have been that badger was just appointed to him by the govt, but I thought he was doing court apt work. Like, not seeing the clients until the day of the hearing!

It seems important, what brought saul to badger....... but maybe it's not Confused

emmav6 · 18/02/2015 10:10

loved breaking bad so was looking forward to this. Not wowed me as much so far but will give it another go

Reubymum · 18/02/2015 11:35

Agree with others the first was a little slow, I guess they are building the foundations for the series like bb did. The references to bb are good and think that is why it was enjoyable to watch, not sure if you watched this without bb you would have returned. The second episode was alot better definately gets you hooked as you want to know more. I was never a fan of Saul but starting to feel sorry for him now!! It may feel different as we binged watched bb over a short period whereas this is more like normal tv viewing??

monkeygambler · 18/02/2015 12:23

It's a bit slow to start, but I also found this with BB.
Glad there is a spin off, as he's such a great character!

Babycarmen · 18/02/2015 13:30

It was a bit of a slow starter.. I got bored about 5 minutes in, but I watched it til the end and I was hooked by the time it finished! Love that there is a few of the old characters in it. :)

taz10 · 18/02/2015 15:55

Watched breaking bad when it was on normal TV and loved it

mynellie · 18/02/2015 17:06

we are just in the middle of watching Breaking Bad so know nothing about better call saul but i look forward to watching it after we have finished this boxset that my hubby got me for xmas

Candyperfumegirl · 18/02/2015 17:32

i loved the desert scene

ArmyDad · 18/02/2015 18:41

It's been slow to start but I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I think Saul will flick between being likeable and being a scumbag

rachel19784 · 18/02/2015 19:45

I loved what I saw. I have been very excited waiting for this show to start. I am a massive Saul fan and have always loved him in breaking bad so cannot wait to watch the next episode. It has the right amount of comedy & action just right. Im loving the Breaking bad connections

rosie17 · 18/02/2015 20:19

Loved it. Absolutely the best thing on TV right now. All be it a little too violent for my taste. Cool, edgy and funny.
