After the success of Breaking Bad, Watch With Mumsnet is back with Better Call Saul, a brand new Original series from Netflix.

In this dark comedic prequel to the Emmy-winning Breaking Bad, we meet ambitious small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill six years before he becomes Walter White’s morally challenged attorney, Saul Goodman. We follow as Jimmy (played by Bob Odenkirk) transforms from an optimistic underdog struggling to make ends meet into the notorious legal legend who puts the criminal in 'criminal lawyer'.

With one episode being released on Netflix each week we’d like you to visit the thread at different points throughout the season and let us know your thoughts on what’s going on. We’ll be updating the thread with new topics of discussion surrounding each week’s episode. Episodes will be release every Tuesday only on Netflix. Everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a Toshiba 40” Full HD Freeview HD Smart LED TV* and 6 month Netflix subscription, a further 5 Mumsnetters will win a Better Call Saul goodybag.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

We have watched both episodes and aren't on board with it yet. Lots of slow parts which lost my attention. The desert scene was ridiculously unbelievable. It seems like they've taken the formula for BB and tried to replicate it: 'Normal but struggling guy makes an epic bad choice and then gets caught up trying to undo it'. BB in my view was awesome but at the same time 'cartoonised' meth addiction in the US. This seems to have veered off one shade further down the cartoon route, and without BB's compelling central premise I'm finding it hard to care.

Watched the first episode and wasn't sure about it. After reading the comments here, I'll give the second episode a go and see if it grabs my attention more.

PooFlower · 15/02/2015 21:08

Absolutely loved 'Better call Saul' watched the first two episodes last night.
We loved the character development with Jimmy/Saul. Loved that Mike and Tuco were in it.
Can't wait for the next episode, although as a few others have commented would have loved to have been able to watch the whole series at my own pace.

kerryv · 15/02/2015 21:24

Think it's going to be great

dragon60 · 15/02/2015 21:30

what an interesting topic, loved reading peoples thoughts as I've not seen this yet.

goodomens830 · 15/02/2015 22:05

It took me a while to get into breaking bad. But when I did, I was hooked! I found this much easier to get on with. The second episode being much better than the first. The desert scene was fantastic. But I am very frustrated that we have to wait a whole week for the next episode!

devito92 · 15/02/2015 22:58

Breaking Bad finishing was a chocker, although better call saul looks like it willl carry on along the same lines.I'm going to let the whole series line up before indulge as I can't wait a week in between episodes.

GrumpyRedhead · 15/02/2015 23:35

DP and I watched both episodes last Tuesday. He loved it, I on the other hand wasn't so fussed so I'm a little relieved to see lots of other people felt the same way. I thought it was just me!

I saw someone above said they wouldn't have watched episode 2 if they hadn't been a fan of breaking bad, I finished episode 2 feeling the same way. I'm waiting for it to get started at the moment, hoping not to be disappointed. BB left you desperate for the next episode, hopefully BCS will do the same.

Becles · 16/02/2015 00:24

Watched both episodes back to back last night. The first episode didn't grip me at all, but we really liked the second.

MillyVanilli222 · 16/02/2015 00:40

I haven't actually watched Breaking Bad, but I've seen the first episode of this and actually really enjoyed it! I like how streaming sites are catching on and showing US shows straightaway in the UK - a lot of my favourites are American and I hate waiting for them to come over here!

stewaris · 16/02/2015 06:36

Just watched the first episode and found it all very confusing. I'm sure there's some symbolism in the black and white beginning but I don't know what. Hopefully all will become clear the more I watch.

Pandabee11 · 16/02/2015 06:55

I quite enjoyed seeing Mike working in a car park. And I liked Saul anyway, Jimmy has definitely kissed the Blarney Stone. I'm looking forward to more.

HelenPlant · 16/02/2015 09:28

I am excited to see how Jimmy McGill is going to transition into the Saul we know and love. We have already seen a glimpse of how he is turning into the immoral-but-clever lawyer....negotiating the skateboarding twins' sentence from death to a couple of broken legs was absolute genius! Looking forward to what's to come.

GatoradeMeBitch · 16/02/2015 10:34

Someone upthread said that this show wouldn't be so interesting because Saul doesn't have as far to fall as Walter White. I won't dish out any more spoilers (WHY hasn't everyone on the planet watched it yet??) but if you watch his first Breaking Bad episode the difference in character is quite surprising actually. He's about as ruthless and self-serving as it gets.

mce023 · 16/02/2015 10:50

Great show, Can't wait for this to continue on. Has a lot of potential

julieef · 16/02/2015 11:14

I have not watched breaking bad but have bought the dvd set for hubby so we will be sitting down to catch up on it

rumbleinthejungle · 16/02/2015 11:34

I watched about half of the first episode but wasn't concentrating properly and felt a bit 'lost' Watched it again yesterday and the second eposide and I loved it. The long first scene which showed Saul always on his guard. When he went home demonstrating that crime in his case definitely didn't pay. His back story showing his desperation to pay his bills and hence entering a shady world. Loved it!

misablue · 16/02/2015 13:37

We loved loved loved Breaking Bad, so can't wait to watch this new series! Saul is legend, think it will be great new series and will feel like we getting bit of Breaking bad back.
Can't wait!!

mumsbe · 16/02/2015 16:59

Was hooked on breaking bad so hoping to get the same from this a bit slow but getting into it never the less

ressyHedMair · 16/02/2015 17:30

gatorademe I've watched BB but can't remember, did saul know tuco salamanco? Confused

I knew that his real name was Jimmy McGill though.

Smoo90 · 16/02/2015 18:05

Good to be back in Albuquerque!
It helps having watched Breaking Bad first as you get to see some of the characters from their early days. Head back in time to find Jimmy McGill / Saul Goodman down on his luck orchestrating slip 'n' fall frauds!!
Promising comedy, I have only seen the first 2 episodes, but if you are a fan then you sure will be entertained! Wink

funkyfish586 · 16/02/2015 19:38

We watchd the 1st episode last night & loved it!!

GraysAnalogy · 16/02/2015 23:27

I absolutely loved it. 'Souls' acting is brilliant. And I like the little references to Breaking Bad.

MagersfonteinLugg · 17/02/2015 07:22

I assume Saul started down the slippery slope because he began 'working' for Tuco after the skateboard incident. So he would have known Tuco by the time Walter came along.

ressyHedMair · 17/02/2015 08:53

and refresh my memory please, how did walter end up getting saul as his lawyer. it seems odd to me that tuco and walter had the same lawyer? sorry to nitpick
