After the success of Breaking Bad, Watch With Mumsnet is back with Better Call Saul, a brand new Original series from Netflix.

In this dark comedic prequel to the Emmy-winning Breaking Bad, we meet ambitious small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill six years before he becomes Walter White’s morally challenged attorney, Saul Goodman. We follow as Jimmy (played by Bob Odenkirk) transforms from an optimistic underdog struggling to make ends meet into the notorious legal legend who puts the criminal in 'criminal lawyer'.

With one episode being released on Netflix each week we’d like you to visit the thread at different points throughout the season and let us know your thoughts on what’s going on. We’ll be updating the thread with new topics of discussion surrounding each week’s episode. Episodes will be release every Tuesday only on Netflix. Everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a Toshiba 40” Full HD Freeview HD Smart LED TV* and 6 month Netflix subscription, a further 5 Mumsnetters will win a Better Call Saul goodybag.

Note on spoilers: We want to hear your thoughts on everything, from plot twists to season finales and more - but if you’re talking anything that could reveal important plot details then please put Spoiler at the beginning of your post to warn others who may not have seen it.

Happy watching,
MNHQ

Still loving it!! Totally hooked now and look forward to every Tuesday. Without giving too much away.. really chuffed to see some faces from BB, the writing is just genius!

Dreamgirl1111 · 24/03/2015 00:12

What a brilliant actor Bob Odenkirk As for the show, BCS still has not reached the edge and sheer madness that characterises BB. But I believe that the best is yet to come: we have the cleverest and most inventive writers working on it!

Ellisisland · 24/03/2015 11:59

Still really enjoying but the pace has slowed down a lot. I think because I watched BB on Netflix and could watch one episode after another even when BB slowed down it never felt like it as much.
Am interested to see how they end the series as its not clear yet where it is going. Only 2 episodes left (I think).

Not wanting to give too much away about this weeks episode but am enjoying the flashbacks.

GratefulHead · 25/03/2015 06:27

Am loving Bob Odenkirk, think he is a fab actor. I've only just started watching but am enjoying it so far. Thought the court scenes in episode one were very funny.

HoneywithLemon · 25/03/2015 07:59

Bob Odenkirk is just marvellous. I squealed at the little teaser at the end of this week's episode. I agree that this series is going to get better and better. The writers are brilliant and so is Jimmy/Saul. The idea that he'd studied alone and for so long to pass the bar brought a tear to my eye. There's so much inventiveness about the show (just like BB). I loved the scene where nasty lawyer man told him they wouldn't be offering him a job - no sound, just the images of the two of them through the window, and the pop of dialogue as the door opened. Very cool.

Ellisisland · 25/03/2015 10:45

Honey I loved that bit as well. So clever and a lot more effective than just dialogue.

GatoradeMeBitch · 25/03/2015 13:18

I think I missed the teaser, will have to go back and rewatch!

MargotLovedTom · 25/03/2015 14:32

Never would've predicted it when watching Breaking Bad but I am developing an almighty crush on him in Better Call Saul, especially when he had his jeans and khaki t-shirt on.
He's smart and funny, and if he'd just sort out the dodgy barnet then I reckon he'd be an incredibly loyal husband and a bloody good shag.

Ellisisland · 25/03/2015 15:27

Haha margo I've loved him ever since the BB episode where he said to WW son " don't drink and drive kid. But if you do call me"

MargotLovedTom · 25/03/2015 15:42

Grin his hair was atrocious in BB mind Wink. I was all for Jesse back then; well, after he ditched the Ali G gear and before he was shaven headed, beardy and traumatised. I'm obviously very shallow!

MargotLovedTom · 25/03/2015 16:18

Oof!

Anyway, I am thoroughly enjoying BCS. Am I cynical in thinking Netflix are releasing it one a week to stop people taking the month's free membership, binge watching then cancelling? Wink

I thought they are releasing it weekly because it is on TV in the U.S. the channel is AMC I think.
I loved Jesse too I was torn between wanting to mother him and other things ..... Blush lowers tone completely

MargotLovedTom · 25/03/2015 18:58

I think I've already started the tone lowering with my lustful thoughts Wink. I loved Jesse but he was sometimes a bit too small and scrawny looking. Saul has a bit more meat on his bones and lovely forearms.

Thanks for explanation re scheduling.

DowntownFunk · 25/03/2015 20:57

This week's was a slower episode but some brilliant scenes in it.

I'm worried about Chuck.

Ellisisland · 27/03/2015 07:28

I have a feeling that whatever happens with Chuck is going to have a big effect on Jimmy becoming Saul

HalfWomanHalfCake · 27/03/2015 14:10

Yes, am fearful for Chuck too. Something not nice is going to befall him, isn't it? Something that will alter Jimmy's view of the world....

Do we know how many more episodes there are?

Ellisisland · 27/03/2015 16:28

2 more episodes to go !

GratefulHead · 30/03/2015 20:11

So enjoying the dark humour of this. Meant to add that another actor I was pleased to see was Raymond Cruz, fabulous as Tuco Salamanca. Dutiful grandson washing "salsa" out of the carpet Grin back I. Episode 2.

Petallic · 30/03/2015 20:53

Am now closly watching and waiting for Jimmys suit to darken in colour as he slides closer to becoming Saul. There's no way that white suit will be staying!

CathBookworm · 31/03/2015 15:35

This was a must see for me, as I loved Breaking Bad. I've caught up with all the episodes now and I'm really looking forward to the next episode which we'll watch tonight. The changes in tone are done brilliantly, love the humour, but my favourite episode so far has to be Five-O. Mike was one of my favourite Breaking Bad characters, so it was a treat to find out more about his past. It's really cleverly written as it all has to feel right in terms of the characters, as we got to know them so well in Breaking Bad. So far it all feels right.

Ellisisland · 31/03/2015 16:27

Watched today's episode and oh Sad my heart just broke for Jimmy

Mike awesome as always

But oh Jimmy / Saul Sad

Bifald · 31/03/2015 22:05

Just watched today's better call saul.

Omg, I felt sorry for Chuck, now I HATE him.

DowntownFunk · 31/03/2015 23:19

Great episode today.

Love Mike's character.

ChoochiWhoo · 31/03/2015 23:19

The scene with chuck/jimmy was brilliant and awful at the same time, i wonder if chuck will revert?

MargotLovedTom · 31/03/2015 23:42

What a shit Chuck is, after everything Jimmy has done for him Angry.

I want Jimmy and Kim to get together: he needs the love of a good woman if it can't be me Wink.
