The team at Specsavers would love to know what you think about glasses frames these days - there are hundred's to choose from - but do you always go for the same type of frame? Or do you have more than one on the go to co-ordinate with your clothes? What about your DP/DH if they wear specs - do you help to choose them, do they like a particular style? How long do you tend to keep your frames? And do you take advantage of 2for1 offers to get something a bit different? How do you pick the frame which suits you best?

Specsavers say "Whatever your style, we can help you find frames that suit you best. Our collection of women's glasses includes a range of styles from classic chic to bold and contemporary. With stylish frames starting from just £25 a pair and designer frames priced from £99 to £149, there’s something to suit all tastes and pockets. All glasses come with PENTAX single vision lenses and a scratch-resistant treatment".

"Vibrant purples, reds, pinks and rich tortoiseshells are emerging trends in eyewear. We have a gorgeous collection of ladies glasses to help you add a pop of colour to your wardrobe. Our women’s glasses are made in a range of materials, including plastic, metal, stainless steel and titanium. If you have a preference for what your frames are made of, search by materials to find the perfect pair".

Share your thoughts and everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 voucher from here

Please note Specsavers may use your comments - anon of course - on their pages on MN, on their social media or possibly elsewhere - please only post if you're happy with this.

Thanks and good luck

I use one for practical reasons as I only need reading glasses.

Princessxo · 01/02/2015 22:28

Whenever it's time to replace glasses, I always pick designer as I prefer the look of them and know they'll last ages. I also get extras like thin lenses and anti-glare.

SahraO · 01/02/2015 22:32

I like having 1 very good one so will get several extras and pay a premium price but this was last years for me so it's worth it.

Gedge · 01/02/2015 22:40

I go for small rectangular shaped lenses with a thin frame, pretty much the same type every time as I think it suits me best. I just get the one pair and they last until the next prescription change, once every couple of years.

itsali · 01/02/2015 23:14

The last time I chose specs, I ordered two pairs. One in my usual style of simple black plastic frames (a classic) and the other in that slightly winged style, tortoiseshell. They are nothing like any pair I've had but I loved them as soon as I tried them. It goes to show how helpful trying on different styles are as you may be surprised what works!

bringans · 02/02/2015 06:43

I stick with the one style, and change every two years.

alabaster002 · 02/02/2015 06:45

Like others, I wear glasses all the time. Hopeless at seeing what suits me Smile I need my OH to offer a vew.

tompob · 02/02/2015 09:47

i have always found spec savers to offer the best deals on glasses, i always get the two for one offer, for I am always losing or leaving behind a pair lol its a hard life at times being a house dad for sure

sleach · 02/02/2015 10:13

i tend to like the media type frames as they suit my face

Stoodles · 02/02/2015 10:52

I hate picking glasses- I always go for a two for one offer as that way I may end up with one that like afterwards!

IneedAwittierNickname · 02/02/2015 11:10

I tend to go for the colourful 'statement' frames as they are kinda funky and I like that. Ive been wearing a similar shape frame for some years now though as i know thats what suits me.
I normally use the 2-4-1 offer and get glasses and sunnies.
I currently get the nhs voucher to help pay for my glasses so generally only replace them when I'm due a new voucher (every 2 years)
I like the fact that specsavers have people on hand to advise you ad to what frames suit you and why. That said last time I got my glasses the man that served me told me the plastic frames (which they had on the sunglasses display) weren't really amy good for sunglasses Confused. He persuaded me to get a different pair which I don't really like and don't think the shape is any good for sunglasses. They suit my face but the sun 'gets in' over the top and around the sides iyswim.
Ds2 also wears glasses. This is a recent thing and he is really happy about it. we struggled to get glasses to fit his face as his is very petite. The frames that fitted him were more suited design wise to much younger children (room on the broom etc)
The gentleman that served us that day spent a long time adjusting the ones he chose so that they fit but they do looktoo wide for his face. I then realised that specsavers have a much much much larger range when I looked online than my local specsavers stocked. This was disappointing as they had some star wars ones in the style he needed. And he really wanted star wars glasses.
Tbh I'm tempted to take him to a local independent optician next time as I've been told that they stock a better range of kids frameS. Which is a shame as I normally love specsavers.

That's a bit long and ramble and possibly not all relevant BlushGrin

katiecoodle1 · 02/02/2015 11:40

I've worn glasses for the last 30 years and I think the glasses that suited me best were the BIG ones I had in the early 90's. Big sunglasses suit me too - these styles just aren't fashionable any more so aren't available which is a shame, because I'd rather have the option of what suits me, rather than what's trendy!

Bair · 02/02/2015 11:44

Dh, DS and I all wear glasses.

There's always a good choice for DS and they seems to last him which is impressive given he wears them constantly.

DH doesn't care about the frames and will pick anything to be out of there asap.

I wasn't happy with my last trip to specsavers, I've had my glasses over 2 years now. My prescription changed slightly, but not enough to warrant a new pair, even though I get an NHS voucher so I'm stuck with my old style and can't afford to pay for them myself. I only get the cheapy pairs on my voucher too.

mumtowoo1 · 02/02/2015 12:39

I always go for the same kind of frames and style that I feel suit me. I would love to change them to match my outfit but as they cost so much I manage by getting a 2 or 1 offer in natural colours.

keshimonster · 02/02/2015 12:56

I have to go for the teenage style glasses as the adult ones are too big for me so I wish there was more choice in the teenage range.

lilmiztam22 · 02/02/2015 13:21

These days I love how there is such a wide range of frames to suit every desire, age and face!

I like to have co-ordinate with outfits it's fun and adds a little boost to my confidence; glasses are no longer just a vision aid they are a fashion statement and something you can wear with pride so having more than one is essential!

Kem99 · 02/02/2015 14:41

I pick ones that go with my hair and complexion as I am very fair, but love that there are so many colours to choose from.
I like to change every couple of years even if I don't need a new prescription and love that SpecSavers give me money off my frames as I also wear contact lenses. Although because my eyesight is quite bad it wasn't until I started to wear contact lenses that I could actually see myself in the mirror when trying on different glasses!

angiesandhu1 · 02/02/2015 17:26

I find it quite hard to choose a frame as my prescription is so high (-10). Even on the thinnest lens, it is still quite thick so choosing the frame is a nightmare.

Specsavers always do their best to advise on the right shape frame to accommodate the thicker lens.

jandoc · 02/02/2015 18:06

I have had my current pair of glasses for a couple of years now and I would like to change style but I always think that the style I'm wearing is what suits me best and I can't bring myself to try a new style.

JoJoBaldwin · 02/02/2015 18:12

I have yet to find glasses that suit me, I think I look horrid in all of them! Really wish I could pull off that sexy secretary look, but it's not happening. So I tend to wear contact lenses out and my glasses are just for in the house, or early morning school runs. Maybe i just need to go to a glasses stylist :-)

StickChildNumberTwo · 02/02/2015 18:59

DH just bought new glasses in about the most complicated way possible - frames from one place, fancy lenses from another, somewhere else to put them all together. Or something like that - apparently it worked out cheaper! He went for the newer version of the frames he had before on the basis that they suited him so why change.

I'm lucky enough to not need glasses, but I like the way friends who wear reading glasses can now get them so cheaply they can mix and match frames to outfits.

shivbrown · 02/02/2015 19:12

Stylish, affordable and best on the market for their quality frames, Will always hop with them x

EEvans · 02/02/2015 19:28

I just ordered a new pair of glasses. I went last week and had a nightmare choosing some because all of the women's frames (excluding a lot of the cheapest end) had absolutely DISGUSTING ARMS!!!!

I'm an adult! I want a plain pair of glasses! When I choose them and they are black and plain at the front I do not want to turn my head to show off a row of tacky bright pink flowers or go faster stripes or the name of a brand in massive letters or worse some tacky tacky diamanté!!

I appreciate some people want "jazzy" arms on their glasses but I've had this conversation with a number of friends who all feel the same. Why is there not an option to swap the arms when you order then for a plain pair! This would provide a perfect solution! People who want a pattern can have it - me and the other plain Janes can leave the store happily knowing the specs will have lovely plain arms! Surely it costs less to make plain arms?!?

In the end I chose a pair that have tacky diamanté stones on the side - not on the side of the arms but on the top of the arms so thankfully unless you tip you head forward they look plain!

If i didn't get glasses cheap through the contact lenses scheme I wouldn't have bought them I've had gone somewhere else. From the £85 range they worked out at £25 so I decided at that price it was worth getting them and risking ruining them by picking the tacky fake diamonds off!

Please consider introducing an option to change the arms. I'd actually be prepared to pay extra to have the option!

I've decided if I wreck them trying to be the diamonds of I'm going to have a look in Boots/Vision Express to get a more grown up pair!

lilababb · 02/02/2015 19:49

I have one pair of glasses, that i wear all the time, i tend to go for the same frame shape as not all frames suit my face. I take my husband to help me choose as i cant see properly to do it on my own.

michele1970 · 02/02/2015 20:18

I take advantage of the 2 for 1 offers as I need my glasses for driving and watching TV. I can then keep 1 pair in the car and 1 in the house.

My daughter who is 6 years old has a very high prescription and we take advantage of the free sunglasses offer in the summer.

I think there are a great range of both adult and children's frames to suit all budgets and I have always found the staff in our local store go out of their way to accommodate us.
