The team at Specsavers would love to know what you think about glasses frames these days - there are hundred's to choose from - but do you always go for the same type of frame? Or do you have more than one on the go to co-ordinate with your clothes? What about your DP/DH if they wear specs - do you help to choose them, do they like a particular style? How long do you tend to keep your frames? And do you take advantage of 2for1 offers to get something a bit different? How do you pick the frame which suits you best?

Specsavers say "Whatever your style, we can help you find frames that suit you best. Our collection of women's glasses includes a range of styles from classic chic to bold and contemporary. With stylish frames starting from just £25 a pair and designer frames priced from £99 to £149, there’s something to suit all tastes and pockets. All glasses come with PENTAX single vision lenses and a scratch-resistant treatment".

"Vibrant purples, reds, pinks and rich tortoiseshells are emerging trends in eyewear. We have a gorgeous collection of ladies glasses to help you add a pop of colour to your wardrobe. Our women’s glasses are made in a range of materials, including plastic, metal, stainless steel and titanium. If you have a preference for what your frames are made of, search by materials to find the perfect pair".

Share your thoughts and everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 voucher from here

Please note Specsavers may use your comments - anon of course - on their pages on MN, on their social media or possibly elsewhere - please only post if you're happy with this.

Thanks and good luck

I usually go on what the assistants advise. Some lenses are not suitable for certain frames and I have found their advice invaluable.

sscrase · 01/02/2015 16:14

There's a real lack of fresh designs from the majority of designers these days, it's always big moon shaped 60's type ones or "Trendy" what I'd call old National Health types. Would be good to see mainstream designers really testing themselves more.

MillyVanilli222 · 01/02/2015 16:43

I think there's a great variety out there to suit all budgets, I tend to opt for similar styles that I've found suit my face. However, I'd like to see more options for those who need thicker lenses - having them thinned down is expensive and I'd like to see that changed/addressed by adjusting frames accordingly.

tabbaz123 · 01/02/2015 16:52

On a personal level as a glasses wearer I am more than happy with the range available. I am not too fussy and tend to only change my style as fashion trends change completely. Although some fashion trends I hate so stick with my old faithfuls. I know someone who has high strength lenses and his choice is not so good due to the type of lens that he requires, weight and thickness etc. Children have had glasses and I tend to let them choose their own as I know the success rate of wearing them and looking after them (ownership) will probably be better.

Mistyblue01 · 01/02/2015 16:55

I like frames with a splash of colour. Cost prevents me from having more than one pair at a time.

jt75 · 01/02/2015 17:02

I always pick NHS frames. I don't have to pay for them. I went to one optician (not sure if it was Specsavers) and was told they didn't stock them so I went elsewhere. I prefer an independent optician rather than a chain.

BitchTradeMark · 01/02/2015 17:05

I end up having to buy new glasses when I have my 2 yearly eye test as my eyesight is gradually deteriorating. I always go for the 2for1 offer as I like to make sure my glasses match my outfits. I tend to have a bolder but more conservative pair (normally for work) and a funky, playful pair for out of work.

I also often stick to one style I know suits me and try a different style I've never worn before. For that reason, I do appreciate the 2for1 offer. I also like that you can opt to have a frame turned in to sunglasses as I struggle with sun light and can't wear regular sunglasses too blind

Last time I updated my glasses in Specsavers, the assistant was really helpful and was genuinely honest about which type of frame better suited my face. That helped as I often go on my own and find it hard to choose without an extra opinion!

21Catherine21 · 01/02/2015 17:12

I always get my glasses from Tesco Opticians for choice & Clubcard points.
Although funnily last time I got my 2 for 1 & points, one pair that I quite liked the look of (& chose) turned out to be exactly the same as a pair I had chosen 2 years before !
I am not sure if that means I really like them or lack imagination when choosing what 'suits' me Smile

Armpitt · 01/02/2015 17:18

ah now I went to specsavers and I got a good voucher
i foudn it unnecessarily formal though tbh. Staff in suits etc

puczinix · 01/02/2015 17:19

My whole family wears glasses and we always go to choose frames together, it's quite fun trying different glasses on and finding the perfect pair.

pennwood · 01/02/2015 17:21

My hubby always has to have me go with him to choose glasses as he struggles to know what suits him, & they have a sticker on one eye which is really annoying when trying to see what one looks like in them. Surely a label would be better attached to the arm. Two pairs is really useful & saves emergencies when one gets mislaid. We are always open to new designs & styles of glasses as we tend to like to be bang on trend. Do not like the assistant standing over us while we are trying frames & would much prefer them to give help if it is required.

Dorual · 01/02/2015 18:29

I have always gone for the 'no frame' glasses in the past, as I find the 'barely there' look suits my face. However, recently I tried the thin 'half frames' and I am converted! They are really delicate looking, without trying to pretend they're not there. I have light eyes so big frames can look odd on me. The above type were recommended to me by the lovely Specsavers staff, and they suit me to a tee.

I tend to get glasses when there is a bogof offer. I always go for a classic, discreet colour & style as I can't afford to have a big selection

kerryv · 01/02/2015 19:33

I always struggle picking glasses. There are far too many frames.

devito92 · 01/02/2015 19:33

My DS wears glasses and is always taken by the bright colours. He's not shy about wearing glasses he sees them as an extension to his personality.Loud and proud

Funkyferret · 01/02/2015 20:08

DH has a hideously expensive prescription and wears glasses all the time, so the two for one is great as he can have prescription sunglasses which are nice to have during the summer but pretty crucial for driving. I have a more common prescription and only wear glasses to read so I have a proper pair from the opticians but have started experimenting with a couple of different styles and colours bought off the shelf from Boots, etc as spares that live in my main bags in case I ever forget my glasses.

gk6277 · 01/02/2015 20:13

So many styles today are very narrow top to bottom and don't suit a stronger prescription, together with the fashion for frames being the prominent feature on a face, if this is NOT how you want to look, it can be very difficult to find something stylish but a little less obtrusive. I try to change my glasses every year, despite the cost, it can be so boring when you wear glasses all day every day, but I've made some expensive mistakes in frame choices. Shame you can't borrow them like a library book for you to try with outfits, of in front of friends and family really !

cheekychicken24 · 01/02/2015 20:16

My other half has really poor eyesight, and a very complicated prescription - the lenses alone cost over £300 before you add the frames! As the frames are the least part of the cost, it would be great to see some offers on lenses. He can't get polarising lenses, so has to buy seperate sunglasses, so the cost of a new prescription is massive. For this reason, we probably don't get his eyes tested as often as we should - when you're looking at over £1000, it's not something we can do annually unfortunately.

cluckyhen · 01/02/2015 20:21

Both my husband and my son need glasses - my DS is Autistic and the range of glasses is quite overwhelming for him.
My OH meanwhile is a soldier so qualifies for free prescriptions but the Army glasses are horrendous. He loves popping to other opticians to look at the ranges there to find his perfect frames.

hbakfam · 01/02/2015 20:51

There's a lot of variety, which is great - it just takes ages to try them all on!

createbeauty · 01/02/2015 21:16

I haven't been able to get an eye test or new glasses in about five years because they're just too expensive. I currently have small framed glasses but I really wish I could buy some bigger glasses so I can't see the outline of my glasses in my peripheral as it hurts my head because my eyes seem to be trying to adjust to the view through my lenses and also the view in my peripheral. If that makes any sense.

BellaWella86 · 01/02/2015 21:22

I've bought the same pair twice from Specsavers (because I loved my first pair but trod on the frame and broke them!!). I usually go for the 2 for 1 offer and buy a quite feminine pair (purple frame currently) and then a generic pair that will go with everything (brown). I've had my current pair for 2 years, but due for an eyetest and will probably change them there to shake it up a little (I live a wild life... haha!!). I usually try on a few frames instore and bring my partner and children with me to vet them so I don't look like an idiot and pick frames that suit me.

arat · 01/02/2015 22:12

Too many frames to choose from, but the problem is most of them don't suit me or I don't like, so I'm usually only left with a very small number to choose from. Not helped by the fact I need quite thick lenses due to the condition of my eyes. So, end result is that I keep glasses as long as possible.

Marg2k8 · 01/02/2015 22:17

I wear glasses for reading and using the PC. I get a new frame each time I need a different prescription. I am happy with the cheaper frames. I don't bother paying more for designer frames.
