With Christmas almost here, we’d like to you to share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family over the festive season.

Will you put a film on while you are wrapping your presents? Maybe you’ll be using Netflix to help the kids settle down before bed on Christmas Eve - after all the excitement over the arrival of Santa! Or perhaps you’ll choose a family favourite that everyone can watch together after Christmas dinner?

We’d also love to know what devices your family uses to watch Netflix. Do your kids tend to watch the iPad? Perhaps you and DP snuggle in bed watching on your laptop? Or maybe you use your smart TV when everyone is together as family. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Netflix has a selection of family titles, including hit movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Brave and Monsters Inc, as well as festive films like Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, Scrooged and The Search for Santa Paws.

Everyone who comments below about how they think they will use Netflix over the holidays will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an iPad mini and a 6 month subscription to Netflix.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

We watch Netflix on our TV (via virgin media) in the lounge. Will be watching Christmas films whilst wrapping presents and decorating the house. Will be looking for any animated films to entertain my daughter for some down time whilst at home and after the children are in bed Me and DH will be catching up on breaking bad.

sharond101 · 03/12/2014 22:23

We just started watching The Goodwife and it should see us through the Xmas holidays. Will bring us all together at the end of the day for a catch up of the show.

NakedFamilyFightClub · 03/12/2014 22:27

We use Netflix on my up TV using Chromecast, it's brilliant.
We put the tree up watching TV Muppets Christmas Carol and it's lovely.
If we just want a quiet evening without watching anything we put Fireplace For Your Home on and pretend we have a lovely log fire Grin

NakedFamilyFightClub · 03/12/2014 22:28

my up? That should read our! Autocorrect strikes again...

arat · 03/12/2014 22:30

We'll be using it for the times when me and OH need to get stuff done/ready in the few days after the kids have broken up from school before Xmas day - plenty on there to keep them entertained!

chezvic · 03/12/2014 22:53

We'll use it as a family on the iPad to snuggle up in bed to watch films. Our daughter is nearly two and still likes to get up mega early. With us both working different shifts we are like ships that pass in the night but over Christmas we'll actually get time together as a family - I hope she likes Elf Wink

selloveday · 03/12/2014 23:50

We'll be using Netflix to avoid the huge number of repeats they normally end up showing each Christmas

taz10 · 04/12/2014 00:11

Watching the Christmas classic with the kids

liz1970 · 04/12/2014 09:19

We will be watching loads of films on Netflix as a family, hopefully we can all make a decision on which film to watch!

sscrase · 04/12/2014 10:06

Never used Netflix, always worried about signing up and then not having a good enough Broadband connection to stop buffering. Would love to be proved wrong.

Babycarmen · 04/12/2014 10:16

Family movies are the best bit about Christmas. :)

jandoc · 04/12/2014 10:59

we will watch Xmas movies

dotty2 · 04/12/2014 11:02

Family films altogether. DD2 links Winx and various other cartoons I am not keen on. DD1 has yet to find anything that really suits her on Netfilx - she tends to like documentaries and reality/fly on the wall type stuff. And in the unlikely event of a quiet evening, DH and I might watch a film or a second episode of Orange is the New Black (liked the first one, but hardly ever get time to watch TV). We mostly just watch in the living room on the TV - only very occasionally let one of the DDs watch on my ipad if they can't agree on something to watch together.

tiredoutgran · 04/12/2014 11:39

The children watch (and fight over what to watch) on my Kindle fire hd, we connect it to the tv if we are having a 'movie night' or the older girls will put it on the Wii. Over Christmas Netflix will be fully utilised as a babysitter to enable me to sneak off and wrap gifts. The 4 year old loves Power Rangers so I am sure that will see plenty of action over the next few weeks. I am hoping for something Christmassy on Christmas Eve to try and get them all settled ready for bed.

beckyinman · 04/12/2014 11:49

I will be using it to watch Orange is the New Black after all the festivities in a bid to unwind

lhlee62 · 04/12/2014 11:53

We don't have Netflix, not sure if I can still enter? But if we won it I could watch it on my tablet, my husband could watch it on his iPad. My daughter loves Disney especially Monsters Inc, any of the Toy Story films and recently she has discovered Frozen so all we get now is snowman, snowman!!

Adizzylass2014 · 04/12/2014 13:04

Netflix is very popular in our household, my 7 yr old loves to watch all the super Mario and sonic cartoons, then my 17 yr old daughter loves to watch the vampire diaries and programmes like that.
My 15 yr old son loves all the action films and a bit of gore, whereas I love the selection of stand up comedy and have watched every episode of waking the dead.
Netflix is fantastic and we will continue our subscription for years to come.
Thanks for keeping all my family entertained, there really is something for everyone!!

IvyMay · 04/12/2014 13:20

We always have a family film night on Saturday and eat home made pizza in front of the family tv together. Looking forward to doing more of this is over Christmas !

joyfuljoyous · 04/12/2014 13:58

Netflix is what gets me through the weekend. We have it on the ipad, smart tv and phones. Its nice that you can connect it all together so if you wanted the option of watch on the big screen all you had to do is press a button. DC's current obsession is Caillou (sp)

justgina · 04/12/2014 14:02

when all the Christmas repeats are on then we'll argue over what to watch from Netflix!

GooodMythicalMorning · 04/12/2014 14:06

Sorting out netflix for dh, as he works long hours so misses all his favourite things, so it will be great for him to watch some films on it and enjoy watching as a family.

EightToSixer · 04/12/2014 14:21

We are a family of Netflix devotees. Originally we subscribed for Breaking Bad but have now worked through tons of box sets including Netflix exclusives such as House of Cards and OITNB.

We have three profiles, a child safe one for DS 8 who loves Ninjago and anything Lego related. He loves to borrow my work tablet to watch this as I can't bear it on the family TV (mean parent). My daughter has better access and loves to watch teen films and series such as Make It Or Break it. She would even prefer to watch it on her tiny iPod touch screen rather than tolerate DSs choices.
DH and I live box sets and I'm currently logged on as I write this, working from home. I've convinced myself that it counts as work if I re-watch the Dexter series as my students are currently writing essays on Dexter, the media and crime, so it has to sort of count as work too right? :)

Sheitgeist · 04/12/2014 14:33

A little bit of Netflix can fill in those 'too cold to go out' or 'waiting for family' gaps.
We have two tellies with Netflix access (through a wii), I watch documentaries on my laptop or ipad as I iron or do other mundane chores, and DCs sometimes watch on laptops or ipad.
When DCs are in bed, DH get on with our latest binge-watch series.
I'd recommend the Muppet Christmas Carol as family Netflix viewing this season; my children enjoyed it last year and want to watch it again.

gd2011 · 04/12/2014 14:41

I haven't got Netflix but I would love to win this prize.

katiecoodle1 · 04/12/2014 15:00

We'll dip in and out of the movies - the kids will enjoy the new Brave release, and also we will relive Modern Family. If I can get DH into Arrested Development, then I'll start that again - love it.
