With Christmas almost here, we’d like to you to share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family over the festive season.

Will you put a film on while you are wrapping your presents? Maybe you’ll be using Netflix to help the kids settle down before bed on Christmas Eve - after all the excitement over the arrival of Santa! Or perhaps you’ll choose a family favourite that everyone can watch together after Christmas dinner?

We’d also love to know what devices your family uses to watch Netflix. Do your kids tend to watch the iPad? Perhaps you and DP snuggle in bed watching on your laptop? Or maybe you use your smart TV when everyone is together as family. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Netflix has a selection of family titles, including hit movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Brave and Monsters Inc, as well as festive films like Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, Scrooged and The Search for Santa Paws.

Everyone who comments below about how they think they will use Netflix over the holidays will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an iPad mini and a 6 month subscription to Netflix.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

I would watch all the fast and furious films on there :)

caz123456 · 14/12/2014 16:24

The kids will be watching more Christmas movies on Netflix this year, and I will try to finally finish Breaking Bad.

MumGranandGreatGran · 14/12/2014 17:16

sorry I don't have these things, just a common or garden TV with freesat and freeview. I very rarely put it on during the day and we pick the odd film or program that we think will suit us. If the grandchildren come they can choose a film from the DVD's we have (children ones) or if I have recorded something for them I ask if they want to watch it, but on the whole we play games, read stories, draw, paint etc. I often find they don't watch the film they have chosen they are too busy playing. Am I a boring person? No I don't think so I just don't live my life round a TV I am 73 and I have lots of hobbies. I do sometimes watch something on TV whilst having my lunch as I read it helps with your digestion, I do have a favorite soap I watch, Emmerdale, but the tele doesn't usually goes on about 9pm and most program's are recorded 'cos I can't stand all the adverts. I presume by the name netflix is something to do with films and satellite TV! Recon I won't be eligible for winning an I Pad mini LOL

jelliex · 14/12/2014 18:12

We'll probably watch a few family films over Christmas. In general the kids watch programmes and films that they choose and me and hubby watch Suits when they've gone to bed :)

candish63 · 14/12/2014 21:59

The kids love Netflix, just so much to watch at the touch of a button

Annbunce · 14/12/2014 22:46

Watching lots of Christmas films to get us all into the Christmas spirit x

BlueNile57 · 14/12/2014 23:02

We used to have Sky but cancelled it a few years ago so have used Netflix to catch up on programmes we have missed like 'Breaking Bad'. We particularly enjoyed watching 'House of Cards' and 'The Office' (US version) and I personally enjoyed 'Hemlock Grove'.

We found half hour programmes like 'The Office' were great to watch as a family just after eating lunch or tea.

Unfortunately we no longer have Netflix as we had to cut back so would love to win this.

littlemisstrivia · 14/12/2014 23:17

Will be watching all our favourite Christmas classics

mamof3boys · 15/12/2014 00:06

We love Netflix and regularly watch movies, so I'm sure there'll be some great Christmas movies on at this time of year. It's great to watch as a family.

Lulabellx1 · 15/12/2014 12:37

I will be using Netflix to watch Christmassy movies/programs during my lunch break at work. I watch Netflix on my work PC. Just because I am at work... doesn't mean I cant feel festive! :)

hareinthemoon · 15/12/2014 12:40

Dh and DS have watched most of the TV series they have wanted to see already so we will use Netflix for family movies.

whoneedssleepanyway · 15/12/2014 16:04

My DDs watch netflix together in bed in the morning at the weekend enabling DH and I to have a lie in of sorts, same strategy will be used over Christmas. They are very sweet and snuggle up in bed. They love Mia and Me.

thekingfisher · 15/12/2014 16:37

I have just decided to retry netflix after a break of several years. We are currently on a free trial which I timed for over the xmas period. We are using it so far to find family movies we can watch together. Also dh and I have been watching breaking bad and are rather hooked. It could be a bit ambitious to watch the entire set before the free trial runs out.
We watch it through our Samsung tele.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 15/12/2014 17:07

We've had Netflix for ages and will watch a nice cheesy film on Christmas Eve with DD (age 5) in the lounge via our PS3. DH and I will then watch something in the evening too (hopefully all jobs will be done by then!).

On Christmas Day, it's just the 3 of us at home and we've just moved here so no friends to visit. We'll watch a film after lunch but it depends what's on 'normal' TV as to whether we watch something on Netflix. We've also got Amazon Prime, so we'd have a look and choose. I try not to have the TV on in the morning though.

DH and I will probably watch a film Christmas evening too as we relax with a little tipple. Again, depends on what's on as to whether we watch live TV or Netflix/Amazon. Within all this, we'll have Doctor Who to watch, although it might be on catch up :)

While preparing Christmas lunch I might have something playing on the iPad in the kitchen while DH and DD are in the lounge. Alternatively I might just have the radio on, depends on how chilled out I am.

However we're away visiting family before and after Christmas. It's likely we might use Netflix on the laptop while we're away to watch a box set episode or two. Probably while in bed. Sometimes you just need some space away from relatives :)

ataraxia · 15/12/2014 18:12

I'm planning for this to be my last Christmas without Netflix! Already started a list of what I'm going to watch once we get it.

This is our first Christmas with Netflix and we will definitely be watching Christmas movies with the kids and also catching up on some box sets to relax when they go to bed.
We watch it together on our smart tv but will look into the smartphone app too!
