With Christmas almost here, we’d like to you to share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family over the festive season.

Will you put a film on while you are wrapping your presents? Maybe you’ll be using Netflix to help the kids settle down before bed on Christmas Eve - after all the excitement over the arrival of Santa! Or perhaps you’ll choose a family favourite that everyone can watch together after Christmas dinner?

We’d also love to know what devices your family uses to watch Netflix. Do your kids tend to watch the iPad? Perhaps you and DP snuggle in bed watching on your laptop? Or maybe you use your smart TV when everyone is together as family. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Netflix has a selection of family titles, including hit movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Brave and Monsters Inc, as well as festive films like Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, Scrooged and The Search for Santa Paws.

Everyone who comments below about how they think they will use Netflix over the holidays will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an iPad mini and a 6 month subscription to Netflix.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Netflix on the smart TV in the living room with the fire lit

Watching kids movies with the family

sofieellis · 11/12/2014 13:31

I can't wait for my kids to get hme from uni, so we can snuggle up on the sofa, catching up on favourite TV shows together.

FuckYouChristmasAndThatClaus · 11/12/2014 15:36

I use Netflix to watch box sets on the iPad whilst I have a bath Xmas Blush it's the only time I get completely to me, and it means I can watch what I like for a change.

We will all be snuggling down and watching a film through the xbox on Christmas Eve. It'll be put through the projector, and one of my favourite moments of the year; the children will all be in their new pyjamas, the log fire will be roaring, I'll have eaten far too many mince pies. As soon as the film is over, it'll be time to put up the stockings, put out the sherry and mince pies and pack them all off to bed. After that, dh and I will be enjoying a romantic candlelit evening (in my fantasy this will mean all wrapping and preparation had been done already! And there will be no last minute panics) and watching The Hobbit.

We have just had a conversation and looked at the offers on Netflix to buy before xmas, as we don't currently use it. We have been using Blinkbox, although does seem a better option.

emmav6 · 11/12/2014 22:30

perfect for family movie on xmas eve whilst we wait for santa

Coffeechick · 12/12/2014 01:48

We will be sitting together in the holidays and watching brave on our television

libra101 · 12/12/2014 05:32

We don't have Netflix, but judging by the comments it definitely sounds worthwhile.

Will be checking it out.

allibaby · 12/12/2014 06:59

We will be watching as many Christmas films as we can squeeze in x

Greigorysgirl · 12/12/2014 11:50

We mainly watch Netflix on our TV, via the PS4. My husband also watches on the iPad and his Phone.

They have some different Christmas films this year so I will enjoy watching some cheesy films while wrapping presents, eating selection boxes with a glass of Baileys in hand!

Last weekend the little ones had a slumber party once we had put the Christmas Tree up. We snuggled on the sofa in our PJs and watched childrens Christmas films - perfect!

tinam1 · 12/12/2014 12:40

Will be using netflix after christmas lunch to watch a nice family movie x

HoneywithLemon · 12/12/2014 13:42

We'll find a classic family film or two to watch with the kids, and maybe crack on with Orange is the New Black (without the kids) at long last!

flowery · 12/12/2014 13:52

We got Netflix for House of Cards and Breaking Bad, which were both good. But apart from that it's just irritating. Every time I search for something, it's not there. I wanted to watch a nice film while wrapping last night but it took me ages because all the perfectly normal, popular/classic films I searched for were not there.

Plus loads of good stuff I'd want to watch is only available on the US version.

Dessallara · 12/12/2014 16:36

Watching Christmas movies! :)

Kangakate · 12/12/2014 17:54

We will have movie night on Christmas eve and since the telly is normally a bit rubbish over the christmas period I think it will be watched quite alot to entertain the kids, OH and I might catch up on Breaking Bad as well

CaptainHammer · 12/12/2014 19:19

We decided to get Netflix for Breaking Bad and now use it for nearly everything!
We watch it in the lounge through smart tv or on the laptop in bed.

We'll be watching lots of Christmas films through Netflix over the next few weeks!

spiroo · 12/12/2014 19:21

Never used Netflix Hmm maybe it is time for me to catch up to see what it look like Xmas Smile

sarah3875 · 12/12/2014 21:32

We just use it on my iPad. Drives me nuts the kids stealing it all the time. They have been madly searching out all the xmas films this week.

introspect · 12/12/2014 23:25

I'll probably watch Netflix instead of watching the same old films that they usually put on around Christmas time.

gracehedley · 13/12/2014 00:57

Looking forward to watching christmas films on the main TV. Love Netflix!

lilrahi · 13/12/2014 01:10

Movies to keep the kids quiet

sarahann1984 · 13/12/2014 01:44

Watching lots of Christmas movies!!!

womblelancs · 13/12/2014 09:58

I don't currently subscribe to Netflix, but I have been looking at it over the past couple of weeks, as we buy a lot of DVDs and it seems better financial sense to subscribe to a streaming service. However, the Netflix website doesn't give anything away as to the actual programmes and films available, which is quite annoying. It'd be nice if they did have this information available as it would help me to make a decision.

I have a cable which connects my laptop to the TV, and I'm considering signing up to the free month's trial over Christmas so that we can spend a bit of family time snuggled up on the sofa in the evening whilst deciding whether or not to keep the service.

aurorablues · 13/12/2014 10:59

We'll be using Netflix quite a lot over the Christmas period, watching Christmas films and cartoons as a family when we get the chance to all relax together. Wehn all the traditional stuff is out the way :)

pennystextiles · 13/12/2014 11:47

I will be using Netflix to catch up on all the LOTR and Hobbit movies myself before watching the new one at the cinema. Then will watch some Christmas movies in the evenings when I get back from work and settle down together on the sofa with the family, snuggled under a duvet
