With Christmas almost here, we’d like to you to share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family over the festive season.

Will you put a film on while you are wrapping your presents? Maybe you’ll be using Netflix to help the kids settle down before bed on Christmas Eve - after all the excitement over the arrival of Santa! Or perhaps you’ll choose a family favourite that everyone can watch together after Christmas dinner?

We’d also love to know what devices your family uses to watch Netflix. Do your kids tend to watch the iPad? Perhaps you and DP snuggle in bed watching on your laptop? Or maybe you use your smart TV when everyone is together as family. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Netflix has a selection of family titles, including hit movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Brave and Monsters Inc, as well as festive films like Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, Scrooged and The Search for Santa Paws.

Everyone who comments below about how they think they will use Netflix over the holidays will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an iPad mini and a 6 month subscription to Netflix.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

We have only had a smart tv and for couple of months and we try and watch a Netflix film together every week or so and will certainly do it over Christmas. The DC get to pick and I used to be very nervous about that but they've chosen some corkers so I'm much more relaxed about it and let them get on with it.

Shush...Don't tell anyone but we use a friend's Netflix account to access it. We didn't want to commit to paying for Netflix without knowing if we would use it. We're counting our pennies carefully.

We use Apple TV and an iPad to watch netflix. Bubble guppies Christmas episode has been watched a lot so far in December! We also watch a family film once a week and normally choose from netflix. Kids love the freedom to choose their own tv :-)

miljones1 · 09/12/2014 19:14

We'll use it to watch umpteen episodes of Modern Family!

GetKnitted · 09/12/2014 19:41

Now you mention it, a netflix account would be quite handy for Christmas, keep the kids out from under foot during the preparations and a nice relaxing evening or two!

compstruck · 09/12/2014 20:11

We will be watching all the Christmas films on netflix that come out at this time of year, and the ones with Robin Williams in. Fabulous!

Whyisitsodifficult · 09/12/2014 21:11

My two will try and watch umpteen episodes of Lego Chima! They generally watch it through the TiVo box or the Wii. Then husband will try and get his hands on the remote to watch some box set of god knows what! Which suits me as I'm generally on my iPad and get a foot rub at the same time, win win!

buckley1983 · 09/12/2014 22:01

Little one has just started getting into Pixar films so we'll be rolling out the old favourites on Netflix - Finding Nemo, Toy Story (1, 2 & 3!) & Monsters Inc as well as some of the newer ones - Brave, Up &, my personal favourite, Monsters University!!

dreamerxx · 09/12/2014 22:45

we will be sat in front of the tv christmas eve watching movies on NetFlix with our nibbles and drinks :) can't wait

BadlyWrittenPoem · 10/12/2014 12:42

I don't have nflix but it sounds like maybe I should get it. I think my children would love to watch more Christmas films.

Iristutu · 10/12/2014 14:16

Sadly we will only be watching it at our friends, but we're reatful for that!

Reasontobelieve · 10/12/2014 15:49

I will be using Netflix this Christmas to help my dd who is 13 become a more discriminating viewer in terms of the films she watches. I am going to set aside time to watch a couple of good quality or classic films with her and hope that this encourages her to watch more. We have already selected a couple of foreign-language films to watch, which I hope will also support her in her language studies at school. It is cheaper than going to the cinema and we can always turn off if we don't like the film!

debbriana · 10/12/2014 17:31

I have had Netflix for about two and a half years. At the moment I have got six months free with a new virgin media TiVo box. So during Christmas I will be having fun films frolicking and feasting.
We will be watching mostly family movies.

I sometimes catch up using my iPhone. My daughter on the kindle fire hd. My husband and I catch up on "breaking bad " in the late evening. I could do with more new movies.

cocochips · 10/12/2014 17:34

We will be catching up on movies that we haven't had a chance to watch all year!

toddlerbed · 10/12/2014 19:02

I'll watch it through virgin tv if there is nothing else on!

isitsnowingyet · 10/12/2014 19:08

Watching some great Christmassy movies Xmas Grin

sleepingbag · 10/12/2014 19:24

My children and their cousins will enjoy watching Christmas films on Netflix via Xbox or smart tv. The adults will catch up on their fav 'box sets' and films on the big screen or I will watch them on my phone in the kitchen while making food or wrapping presents in my room, my husband would use his ipad as he prefer's a bigger screen!. Also if tired or cold on the tablet in bed!!!

Badvocinapeartree · 10/12/2014 19:27

We have had Netflix for about 6 months now.
I got it when ds2 was recovering from an operation and we were housebound for 2 weeks.
I only intended to use the free trial if I am really honest :) but it's been great.
The dc both watch cartoons and films on the TV and their iPads.
I watch TV series like house, chuck, house of cards and comedies like black books and the it crowd.
We love snuggling up in bed and watching a film together - we have watched tangled, brave, and most of the Disney movies.
Ds1 is very impressed because Netflix has transformers predacons rising which you can't get on DVD in Europe.
As other have said, it's great knowing it's set to "kids" and they can't access the more adult programming.

Minnibix · 10/12/2014 19:50

We plan to catch up on some of the box sets we have missed during the year, I think Netflix's collection is second to none and the kids have already decided on the Xmas film they want to watch on Xmas Eve before Santa comes down the chimney

cheryl100 · 10/12/2014 20:44

My son watches netflix via his ipad, he has been watching christmas films lately but I am addicted to Justified!

Selinemaratima · 10/12/2014 22:17

We have Amazon TV with the Netflix App, it's great! We're already getting in the mood and have watched Home Alone 1&2 with our kids as we remember watching it way back when, that's mainly what we'll be using it for, enjoying our xmas childhood films with our little ones. (Although have just started watching The Boss and it's fab, so we'll prob tune in to that once they're asleep.) The Grinch is next on our list, along with Miracle on 34th St & Sleepless in Seatle :-) x

cluckyhen · 10/12/2014 22:32

Festive Movies all the way!

Bubbles85 · 10/12/2014 22:52

Smart TV for a film afternoon on Christmas Day - although we have all be known to nap through it!

pussinwellyboots · 11/12/2014 00:37

Our kids are just starting to get to an age where they enjoy films. Last Christmas our eldest was in hospital with a broken leg but one of his favourite memories was watching the railway children film at grandads house (I think on Netflix) once he came home from hospital!

SaltySeaBird · 11/12/2014 08:25

We don't actually have Netflix but have considered it several times.

Christmas Eve we have a family day at home with lots of nibbly food, watch 3-4 films and just relax as come Christmas Day we are heading all over the place.

I do sometimes let my daughter sit at the kitchen table watching films on the laptop while I cook and there is always quite a bit of time in the kitchen over the Christmas break.

xalyssx · 11/12/2014 09:40

We watch Netflix on computer, xbox, macbook, ipad, iphone and phablet! Normally I like watching crime in the bath, DS1 likes watching Thomas and DP likes Full Metal Alchemist and Archer. Over Christmas, the kids and I have been watching Christmas and Disney films whilst I do wrapping, and in the evenings I've been watching Hemlock Grove after the kids are in bed. We will be having a Buffy day on Boxing Day.
