With Christmas almost here, we’d like to you to share how you’ll be using Netflix with your family over the festive season.

Will you put a film on while you are wrapping your presents? Maybe you’ll be using Netflix to help the kids settle down before bed on Christmas Eve - after all the excitement over the arrival of Santa! Or perhaps you’ll choose a family favourite that everyone can watch together after Christmas dinner?

We’d also love to know what devices your family uses to watch Netflix. Do your kids tend to watch the iPad? Perhaps you and DP snuggle in bed watching on your laptop? Or maybe you use your smart TV when everyone is together as family. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

Netflix has a selection of family titles, including hit movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Brave and Monsters Inc, as well as festive films like Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, Scrooged and The Search for Santa Paws.

Everyone who comments below about how they think they will use Netflix over the holidays will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win an iPad mini and a 6 month subscription to Netflix.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

I LOVE Netflix! I started using it to watch Breaking Bad and then Orange is the New Black (can't wait for next series!).

Over Christmas, we'll be firing it up to watch films as a family (via Apple TV from my IPad), and the DH and I will be binging on House of Cards.

juju3 · 05/12/2014 18:10

watching some great family films WHEN its convenient

ScrambledEggAndToast · 05/12/2014 18:13

We will be watching on both our iPads and the TV. DS and I often snuggle up under a blanket on the sofa and choose a film to watch. On Christmas Eve, we will probably pick something. My choice would be Love Actually but with an 11 year old boy I can't see that happening until he's in bed. Oh well, at least I can crack out the WineWine then!!

mudcat · 05/12/2014 18:47

We watch on internet TV, we're selective about what and when - but that's the beauty of Netflix

danmoore00 · 05/12/2014 19:51

I have 3 children aged 20, 8 & 2 - so keeping them all happy at once isn't always achievable, however with Netflix I can do the trick - 20 year old son watching film/Walking Dead in bedroom (away from little ones eyes and ears)! 8 year old daugther watching H20 in Living room (27 episodes or something) she tells me! Terrible 2 year old watching Fireman Sam in kitchen (keeping him from emptying out kitchen cupbaords/hitting sister with cheese grater or pouring water over his feet)! Then I can actually get to cook dinner without "Mum" every 2 minutes.

Then over the festive period all of us will snuggle up together and watch a favourite Christmas film on Netflix. Netflix you saviour!

My two girls watch films andvov episodes on their tablets using headphones when they can't agree what to watch. I watch films and TV series during the day as I am home with a baby and hate daytime tv.

My husband works away lots and watches on his phone in his hotel rooms as he spends a lot of time on his own.

I'll probably put some Christmas films on for the girls to get onto the spirit of things and watch more tv episodes while the nights are cold and I don't want to go out.

lilmiztam22 · 05/12/2014 20:32

We use it on the Wii on the TV so we will snuggle together to watch classic films and our house loves the hunger games!

vixo · 05/12/2014 21:23

We use Netflix on our tv, and the children love family movie 'night'. We are really looking forward to some Christmas films watched with the fire lit and the Christmas tree decorated. We have family tea, early baths, and then one of the older 2 (aged 3 & 6!) gets to choose the film which we watch with pocorn.

Just signed up for trial. Will put apps on DS tablet. We are personalising our profiles. Quite excited!

nightswift · 05/12/2014 23:01

Sat night is movie night in our house and we can always find somwthing good that pleases all on Netflix. We have a smart tv but also a home cinema system so get the full cinema experience. Love Saturday nights!

Gawjushun · 05/12/2014 23:02

We'll be snuggling up and watching the movies on the kid-friendly site on Xmas eve. With a mug of hot chocolate of course! My DS is nearly 3, so he's only just old enough to sit through a film, and we are trying to start some new traditions.

Once he's in bed it'll just be me and the DH doing some binge watching and enjoying more grown up TV. I've got a ton of stuff on my to watch list such as Masters of Sex and Californication, and this is one time of year I actually get to catch up!

Funkyferret · 05/12/2014 23:46

We try to keep the TV off as much as possible over the Christmas period but Netflix is great when presented as a treat (i.e. I've got a million things to do and I'd really love an hour of peace and quiet to get on with it . . .). This usually works best on my husband!

Daariina · 06/12/2014 16:33

We tend to go over to my brothers house and watch the netflix on the wide screen TV. There are 2 TV's in their house, the 1 in the living room is used by the adults to watch horror movies and the 1 in the kids room is used to watch family oriented/cartoon movies. Then it's upto the adults to decide which room to go to although we make sure there is at least 1 adult with the kids at all times.

vixxx666 · 06/12/2014 16:35

We don't currently have Netflix but me, OH and our 2 boys love films. Saturday evenings are family film time. :)

yasmin0147 · 06/12/2014 17:37

We will be watching christmas movies together on the flat screen telly, with some biscuits and board games

alsproject · 06/12/2014 17:41

We love Netflix in this household but there is so much content, I sometimes don't know what to watch. During Christmas, we'll be watching classic Christmas movies as well as some recent blockbusters

PulpsNotFiction · 06/12/2014 18:43

We'll be watching on the TV, then when they all get on my nerves I shall be watching on my own in my iPad Grin

I would LIKE to be watching series 3 of Suits. When is it coming?????

mipmop · 06/12/2014 20:17

I'll be watching through my TiVo box, and will use it to supplement the broadcast schedule. I expect well be more interested in films than box set series.

ffluffy · 06/12/2014 20:41

Love snuggling up with the family with hot chocolates and a good film. We'll be watching some Christmas classics this year.

Maiyakat · 06/12/2014 20:49

I don't have Netflix - would use it for Christmas Films and for boxsets during the long dark nights

andrea806 · 06/12/2014 21:08

We will be watching as many boxsets and all the latest films!!!

ilovebruuuceandbags · 06/12/2014 22:44

Blackmail. I will watch Barbie/My Little Pony/Insert Uber Girly programme here* on my son's login. If he doesn't behave before Christmas, next time he logs in with his friends over, he may be wishing he was better behaved.

helenthemadex · 07/12/2014 08:26

I hardly watch any tv at the moment to busy during the day so over christmas will be catching up on some box sets, watching Orange is the new black to see what the fuss is and using it to keep the kids amused on days when the weather is bad

Sellins · 07/12/2014 11:24

Have never watched Netflix, I just don't find the time

happysouls · 07/12/2014 15:24

I've not tried netflix but I'm hoping to sign up for it in the next couple of weeks for a trial and see how it goes! I really want to watch breaking bad over Christmas, I've never seen it but its top of my list! We generally have a binge watch of something we've carefully chosen and I'm hoping this will be the one!
