Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out what makes Mumsnetters and their DCs feel better when they’re feeling under the weather during the winter months.

Here’s what Nurofen says, “Both adults and children may experience a sniffle or two this winter, but the whole family wants to feel their best to make the most of the festive season. From Halloween to Christmas, there are plenty of family occasions to enjoy during the colder months and being holed up in the house is no fun for anybody. If you or your children are struck down with cold or flu, Nurofen offers a range of products to help manage both adult and child symptoms including fever, sore throats, headaches and minor body aches.”

So, what do you do to help yourself and your DCs feel better when you are (both) down with a winter bug? Do you tuck yourself under multiple covers on the couch and put on a marathon of your favourite TV show? Perhaps you have a special recipe which you reserve for when you’re feeling under the weather which you find keeps you going? Or maybe a hot bath does the trick for you and your DC? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it.

Everyone who leaves their comments below will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

JemimaButtons · 10/11/2014 22:51

Nurofen for kids for my kids. Adult nurofen for me. Under a cover watching films. Juice to replace fluids or help with a sore throat. And vegetable broth to up the vitamins.

ICantFindAFreeNickName · 10/11/2014 22:51

PJ's, sofa, duvets, hot water bottle, hot chocolate, dvd (nice family film - maybe an old Disney favourite), lots of snuggles. Perfect medication for poorly DD or Mum.

Bubbles85 · 10/11/2014 22:59

Hot lemon and a hot water bottle on the sofa with a good film.

We have the gold blanket in our house. It's mine and dps kingsize eiderdown and we all love to snuggle up under it when we feel rubbish. even the dog likes burying himself in it Smile

Roobix04 · 10/11/2014 23:03

My dp settles me on the couch with a blanket and sticks a musical on for me. He hates them and usually refuses to watch them. It me feel all lovely and gives me a little boost.

LEE88 · 10/11/2014 23:17

Cosy pj's and snuggling up on the sofa watching tv, usually Scooby - doo, lol

StampyShortnose · 10/11/2014 23:22

PJs, being snuggled up on the sofa watching DVDs.

Tea and toast for me, toast and juice for the kids.

Tanfastic · 10/11/2014 23:25

Warmth, comfort, a cup of tea and Sinex.

BonzoDooDah · 10/11/2014 23:27

I snuggle in bed and sleep and sleep, then read all the magazines I've been meaning to read but haven't. Then sleep some more.

bettythebuilder · 10/11/2014 23:40

Hot Ribenas and snuggling on the sofa under our lovely, furry, blanket- very comforting!

chewbecca47 · 11/11/2014 02:24

A nice warm bath with essential oils followed by relaxing back massage then snuggle in front of TV with some chicken soup and hot pain relief drink.

NoisyOyster · 11/11/2014 06:44

Hot bath with peppermint oils in it, to clear the sinuses and rest the aching limbs

A humungous vat of tom yung gun spicy thai soup

Hot lemon, grated ginger and honey drinks all day long

A sympathetic partner who will mollycoddle and generally fuss over me whilst bringing me all the above Grin

Hot ribena, mashed potatoes and olbas oil on a tissue by the bed. That and maximum doses of cold and flu tablets!

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 11/11/2014 09:13

For me, it's sleep, although I rarely get that, as I need to take care of the children. Grin

For my children, well specifically for my 5yo as he is currently home sick with a bug, he wanted toast, milky tea, a blanket, and his stuffed Stitch to cuddle. That, combined with being cuddled on the sofa, watching The Incredibles seems to have settled him for now. (plus Nurofen and Calpol, of course, for his fever!)

fuzzpig · 11/11/2014 09:39

Hot squash or apple juice with honey stirred in.

Crisps (scratches an itchy throat)

Ice lollies (soothes an achy throat)

Spicy food to clear a blocked nose!

Steam inhalation with Vicks melted into it.

My electric blanket.

Gargling with dilute Corsodyl mouthwash for a few nights at the first sign of a sore throat - used to get tonsillitis a few times a year but since I started doing this I haven't had it.

lpbarton · 11/11/2014 09:50

Hot bath, followed by a tray of snacks while I indulge in an old fashioned chick flick and if I'm lucky a flash of hot tea beside me!

rachaelsit · 11/11/2014 10:49

I like to get out for a few minutes of fresh air, even if it's just standing outside. If it's with a cuppa, even better!

MadMonkeys · 11/11/2014 11:46

Heinz tomato soup. It's what my mum used to do for lunch if we were ever too ill with a cold to go to school.

k8vincent · 11/11/2014 11:54

Staying in my pajamas, marmite on toast. Hot water bottle, duvet and a whole day of my favourite films. Someone else to entertain the children.

lucyanntrevelyan · 11/11/2014 12:08

For me going back to bed and sleeping it off having taken cold tablets.
DC snuggle under their duvets on the sofa with Tom and Jerry on the TV.

iwantavuvezela · 11/11/2014 12:24

What makes me feel better is knowing that I can stay in bed, and preferably with my husband at work, and my daughter at school! This allows me to know that I can just rest and stay in bed.
.I love to change into some fresh/clean pajamas, as if I was ill I would probably have been swearing during the night. Then arming myself with ipad. reading book, radio, tea, bottle of water, some juice I am ready to relax, try to sleep and just rest.
At night the very best is when my husband makes me a hot toddy of a good tot of whiskey, freshly squeezed lemon, honey and hot water, this ensures me a good night sleep.

trikken · 11/11/2014 12:30

When I'm down with a cold I have a hot bath to decongest then bring my duvet downstairs and have soup (usually tomato) with chunky wedges of bread slathered in butter dipped in whilst watching my favourite box sets so poirot or Jonathan Creek etc.
