Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out what makes Mumsnetters and their DCs feel better when they’re feeling under the weather during the winter months.

Here’s what Nurofen says, “Both adults and children may experience a sniffle or two this winter, but the whole family wants to feel their best to make the most of the festive season. From Halloween to Christmas, there are plenty of family occasions to enjoy during the colder months and being holed up in the house is no fun for anybody. If you or your children are struck down with cold or flu, Nurofen offers a range of products to help manage both adult and child symptoms including fever, sore throats, headaches and minor body aches.”

So, what do you do to help yourself and your DCs feel better when you are (both) down with a winter bug? Do you tuck yourself under multiple covers on the couch and put on a marathon of your favourite TV show? Perhaps you have a special recipe which you reserve for when you’re feeling under the weather which you find keeps you going? Or maybe a hot bath does the trick for you and your DC? Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it.

Everyone who leaves their comments below will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

I put the Wood burner on, make everyone hot juice with honey and lemon. Tv on and blankets for snuggling under.
Roast Chicken dinner for tea makes everyone feel better too.
We have done all the above today as we are all feeling rubbish.
I had an afternoon nap with dd for three hours too which really helped.
Can't wait to go to bed early tonight too!

MaryWestmacott · 10/11/2014 19:38

Me: hot shower, fleecy owl jimjams topped off with one of DHs hoodies, then lots of chocolate and being left alone to watch pride and prejudice (BBC version, the piano on the opening credits always makes me feel a little better)

The dcs: snuggling up in mummy and daddy's bed, ideally with mummy and a pile of story books.

Nurofen for children is rather wonderful though, it's the only painkiller both mine will take.

Demonchops · 10/11/2014 19:42

When I'm feeling under the weather, as I am tonight as it happens, I get a hot lemon drink, hot water bottle, duvet down from the bedroom and curl up on sofa with a book or if I have headache I watch a favourite film or listen to music..

For my DC, love, love and more love is all they need. Preferably when they are dosed up with nurofen, we get their fav foods/snacks and they can have as much TV as they want !

Lazing about in bed definitely helps, but not always possible with a toddler!

DD loves cuddles when she is not well, so we let her sleep in our bed. She also like to get cosy on the sofa with a big blanket for a Ben and Holly marathon!

katyk81 · 10/11/2014 20:17

We have all been ill this past week and the kids have really enjoyed snuggling on the sofa, in their PJ's, under a nice blanket with something good on the tv. They have been living off soup and lots of cups of warm squash or warm milk with honey and lots of rest and plenty of fluid seems to be doing its job.
For me it is having an early night after a nice hot bath

BlondeHavingFun · 10/11/2014 20:22

Cuddling up on the sofa with lots of pillows,a soft blanket and watching trash tv. I always drink hot squash and eat toast with lots of butter and marmite.

CheeryCherry · 10/11/2014 20:22

Lots of layers, hot water bottle, cold drinking water, soft tissues, regular pain killers, candy crush and trashy telly whilst sprawled on the sofa...

GoldfishSpy · 10/11/2014 20:24

Hot lemon and honey and whisky

CMOTDibbler · 10/11/2014 20:26

A long bath, and then laying in bed under fluffy duvet with a hot water bottle. Then DVD, tea and cuddles

emmelinelucas · 10/11/2014 20:29

I like to cuddle up on the sofa under my duvet with my cat. She is snuggly and purry and gentle company. Radio 4 on low is also comforting.

melmo26 · 10/11/2014 20:48

For me is lying on the sofa with my dressing gown draped over me like a blanket. Lots of medicine to help me face the school run. If I could sleep during the day I would, but dd3&4 are still too little for nursery! Just getting over one now that has done the rounds of all four dds, dh and me.

For the dd's it's duvet on sofa with lots of movies, water and ibuprofen. I also sleep on the sofa bed with them at night. When mine are not well they wake in the night crying saying " I don't feel well" and won't go back to sleep.

Getting in my comfies & watching some crap on the iPad while snuggled up in bed

Whiskey with hot water, lemon & honey

Sleep

NettleTea · 10/11/2014 20:53

heating on, TV with sunday afternoon films on, big duvet on the sofa and endless cups of tea

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 10/11/2014 21:07

For adults: lemon juice, honey, whisky & hot water.
A bit of fresh air and then snuggling up on the sofa with a duvet.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 10/11/2014 21:13

Georgette Heyer binges are the very best emotional comfort food when you're feeling poorly. Failing that, Terry Pratchett.

missorinoco · 10/11/2014 21:15

For me, lying down on my bed in peace with a book and a cup of tea.

For the children, cuddles, sympathy and a little more of how they like to relax, e.g. stories, television

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/11/2014 21:21

A glass of whiskey.

Not for dd though. That wouldn't be right.

GingerTum · 10/11/2014 21:24

Warm ribena and peanut butter and strawberry jam on a toasted bagel...Grin

aftereight · 10/11/2014 21:27

Hot orange squash or ribena
Mashed potato with salad cream
Sit on the sofa with a throw wrapped round me
Balsam tissues
Sinus specific hot lemon powder medicine drink
Olbas oil and jersey pjs for bedtime

starlight36 · 10/11/2014 21:39

Lying under the duvet on the sofa either reading a trashy book or watching some trashy TV. I like to sip hot soup from a mug so I can stay all cozy in my day bed!

flamingtoaster · 10/11/2014 21:59

Manuka Honey 10+ at the first sign of a cold or cough. Must be taken slowly off the spoon and never put in hot water as it kills the anti-viral/anti-bacterial element. Inbetween the honey doses sipping warm chamomile tea. Whoever is ill is allowed to lie on the sofa covered with a fleecy blanket and can choose what to watch on TV.

KateOxford · 10/11/2014 22:05

My son recently enjoyed watching cbeebies on the I pad whilst tucked up in bed, programmes he used to enjoy before starting school which I thought he had grown out of! I enjoy resting in bed with a hot water bottle, some easy to watch TV which makes me laugh like Big School and my husband putting the children to bed!

unadulterateddad · 10/11/2014 22:10

Tuck up in bed under the down duvet and stick scooby-doo dvds on to watch - repeat for as many days as it takes to get better (+1 for luck)

madhairday · 10/11/2014 22:36

For my dc it's into onesies with duvets and pillows on the sofa. I make them hot milk with honey and they snuggle up and watch hours of Harry Potter or, in dds case, hunger games etc etc. For me it's hot bath and bed with hot water bottle and good book or mumsnet. Cocoa with a dash of brandy is fairly good too.

forcookssake · 10/11/2014 22:48

Homemade mac n cheese with the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice playing end to end Wink
