To celebrate the launch of the new Vodafone family price plan (Red+) and that this Christmas you can also enjoy a 3 month NOW TV Sky Movies with Red 4G Vodafone want to know what your fail safe film is for travelling with children!

Vodafone say "We all know those long journeys with children, especially at christmas time when they are even more excited, can feel a bit endless. These days, technology makes this a bit easier! With a 3 month NOW TV Sky Movies Pass from Vodafone, you can select a film to help pass the time for children".

Vodafone has also launched a new plan, designed specifically for families. Red+ gives you one data allowance to share and you can even cap your kids’ data so they don't go over their limit. You'll get one simple bill for all devices, saving you money compared to individual plans, and you'll also get unlimited calls and texts.

The Vodafone Digital Parenting Guide can be found here: www.vodafone.co.uk/family

So whether your children climb over seats to catch yet another screening of Frozen, or have a secret sob to Toy Story 3, please share the film you can be quietly confident will give you some peace on the journey and keep the kids occupied.

Add your comment to this thread and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 Hamleys voucher (can be used online and in the stores)

Please note your comments may be used by Vodafone or MN on Vodafone pages, social media or possibly elsewhere - please only add a comment if you're happy for it to be used.

Thanks and good luck

Tom and Jerry, EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Cherrypippin · 11/11/2014 09:56

We'll be travelling from Kent up to Scotland this christmas and will rely on some christmas films to entertain the children. The eldest ones will probably watch the nativity films and home alone and the younger ones frozen and Arthur Christmas.

Holfin · 11/11/2014 10:02

I would probably put on The Gruffalo or The Gruffalo's child because DH and I the DC like it. My favourite as a child was Home Alone but my DC are too young to enjoy it yet.

TheThinksYouCanThink · 11/11/2014 10:30

We travel all over and luckily all 3 are very good in the car.
Currently, DS1 loves Lego Movie and Eddie Stobart Series (he is eddie stobart obsessed so a long car journey which can be spent lorry spotting is heaven to him!)
DS2 loves Rise of The Guardians and can watch it over and over or Toy Story
DD likes the soundtrack to Frozen, guaranteed to get her to stop crying if she is fed up especially when her brothers sing a long.

RubySparks · 11/11/2014 10:39

Another one here who doesn't watch films in the car. For an entertaining afternoon / evening at home though, then I agree with those picking 'Elf'! Definitely my favourite and for Christmas eve or
Christmas Day 'The Snowman' and 'Father Christmas'. My kids are teens and they still want to watch these.

DifferentNow · 11/11/2014 10:46

Ours love Home Alone too and Christmas is the only time I can stomach them watching it. Our favourite is Fred Claus though because mummy gets to lust over Vincent Vaughn.

fatbottomgirl67 · 11/11/2014 11:08

Has to be Shrek. One of the Best films ever. suits all ages and makes us adults in the front chuckle too

MadMonkeys · 11/11/2014 11:48

My kids are more into CBeebies than films - and the current favourite/obsession is Octonauts....

lucyanntrevelyan · 11/11/2014 11:52

We don't tend to watch films while travelling despite lots and lots of driving over Christmas - we live 100 miles away from both families and end up having to see both. DS1 tends to get car sick if he looks down and DS2 is happy to read a book. I keep thinking it would be nice to rig up a screen for DS1 to watch but it costs too much to get DVD sorted in the car when we can barely stretch to the petrol let alone presents for everyone.

At home over Christmas we will watch Despicable Me 1 and 2 (again) as they make all of us laugh.

Tikkabillajive · 11/11/2014 11:57

We generally only let the kids watch a film in the car if the journey is more than about 2 hours. It's nicer just talking and playing games, listening to music, or listening to a story CD that we can all enjoy (recently we've all loved Kate Winslet's readings of the Mr Gum books). That said, there are definitely times when it's a blessing to let the kids put on their headphones and watch something together - it gives DH and I a chance to chat!

Christmas films we love include: Home Alone, Nativity, Arthur Christmas, Elf, and the original 80s tv series of The Box of Delights.

InAndOfMyself · 11/11/2014 12:17

These days it's Frozen, complete with my DC telling me not to sing.

StainlessSteelCat · 11/11/2014 12:24

Would have to be one each, they all have different tastes. Head phones for all DC as well, so they can block out the sound of a sibling singing along.

Actually, we don't do films on car journeys, much to their disgust. We do allow them to play on phones/tablets (airplane mode on - stops random app store purchases) and we listen to music.

Current favorite films include, Mr Peabody and Sherman, Frozen, tangled, Charlie and The chocolate Factory. or minecraft videos on YouTube. I think this last one is the real reason we don't let them watch films in the car!

Nouseforausername · 11/11/2014 12:34

ds is only 18 months so still fascinated by just watching the trees and cars pass. but a film that will always keep his attention would be cars. or anything with dogs in it :/

cococandyfloss · 11/11/2014 12:36

Favourite family ones are Elf and of course they like a sing a long to Frozen. They are cheesy but the Nativity ones are good fun too and I love showing them ones from when I was younger like Santa Claus the Movie -I used to find that film so magical!

iwantavuvezela · 11/11/2014 12:37

Parenttrap.

I am not sure what it is about this movie but it is a BIG hit in our family and has been watched zillions of times.

RunByFruiting · 11/11/2014 15:34

We wouldn't watch a film whilst travelling, ds1 needs travel time to ask a million and one questions..but if we did Nightmare Before Christmas.
We watch it once a week and he's started to understand christmas from it, however being only 2 he's had tantrums before as he can't rip his face off like the clown with the tear away face, so not one for public transport.

If it was just me, muppets christmas carol, looking forward to sharing it with the children, and seeing it at the cinema next month with just dh!

Madcatgirl · 11/11/2014 15:40

We'll be travelling to cornwall from Manchester and will be using DVD players and tablets for the journey. 7 hours with no electronic entertainment? Not for us thanks.

My kids both love Harry Potter, nightmare before Christmas and top gear.

AllSorted · 11/11/2014 15:56

We don't watch films in the car. On a very long train journey did take iPad and watched a few shirt episodes if peppa pig and Thomas tank. If we did watch more on journeys, frozen would certainly be the film to keep my 2 entertained for its duration - for now we make do with the soundtrack in the car.

ReluctantCamper · 11/11/2014 16:01

For my DS it would be 'Monster Inc' (sic). I've seen it so many times it kind of makes me want to cry now, even though I loved it to start with!

Dolallytats · 11/11/2014 16:17

If I wanted my children to watch a film while travelling it wouldn't be a Christmas one-DS(6)would want to watch a Star Wars film or Despicable Me. If it HAD to be a Christmas film, it would probably be Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas-because he finds it very funny (in the way that only a 6 year old can!!) that you see Father Christmas's bum!!

DD(15 months) would want to watch In The Night Garden.

BrieAndChilli · 11/11/2014 16:35

We tend to download stuff from the cbeebies website but any Pixar film would keep all three of mine entertained

Moogdroog · 11/11/2014 16:41

We've never done this, but if we did, one of the Studio Ghibli films does the trick for our DCs - Ponyo or Arietty perhaps.

Macey78 · 11/11/2014 16:58

Frozen is the one at the moment.

FreedomHuntress · 11/11/2014 17:01

Toy Story or Toy Story 2. DS, aged 4, doesn't much care for TS3, but is eagerly awaiting TS4, even though I did explain it's over two years away!
We are driving down to London in December, it's about eight hours, will overnight halfway, so definitely taking some entertainment for the trip. And we are going to Hamleys ...

fuzzpig · 11/11/2014 17:07

We don't watch anything 'on the go' but an Xmas film guaranteed to get the DCs settled down is Nightmare Before Christmas :o

Although they may then want to get up and dance to the songs ('This Is Halloween' is on one of the Just Dance games and they love copying it) :o
