steam, olbas oil, saline drops, snot sucker. gross but effective. a humidifier in their room at night when its really bad, doesn't stop the snot & phlegm but loosens it so at least they can breathe comfortably.

jaseos81 · 09/10/2014 11:55

A warm bath and a little help from my life-saving friend, Vics, in a bowl of hot water to vapourise the room

matphil · 09/10/2014 16:14

Use a wet wipe to wipe the nose as it's not so drying on the skin. Vicks on the soles of their feet and on the chest for coughs. Give them calpol or similar to ease their pain.

supergreenuk · 09/10/2014 17:50

Fresh air. I swear their noses can be streaming in the house but as soon as we go out it seems to dry up.

Pimmpom · 09/10/2014 18:34

For a newborn, raise the legs at the top of the cot.

sarah3875 · 09/10/2014 19:57

Definitely Olbas oil on a muslin, the vapor plug in's and a smidge of Vaseline around the nose.

keshimonster · 09/10/2014 20:17

Balsam tissues

Danso · 09/10/2014 21:14

I think the best product to use at night (or during their day time nap) when the little one had got a nasty cold is an onion cut in half placed next to the bed/cot. It helps much better then saline drops or Vaporub. The next night the onion can be used again, but cut the onion a few times more.
Also raising their mattress slightly by putting a rolled up towel underneath the mattress at the top end helps when the snot is dripping into their throats and causing irritation that way.

katie1001 · 09/10/2014 22:03

suck the snot out of their nose! gross but it really works x

Iamnotanugget · 09/10/2014 22:05

Call and lots of feeds. Little and often.

Iamnotanugget · 09/10/2014 22:05

*Calpol

libra101 · 10/10/2014 05:14

Wrapping baby up warmly and getting out in the fresh air. Clears nasal passages easily.

Catpawprint · 10/10/2014 09:10

Patience, cuddles. Vaporub on soles of feet. Snot sucker device with filter on so you don't eat the snot!

maximum4 · 10/10/2014 12:24

When mine were little babes with a cold - they were much more settled in an elevated position in their cot crib/moses basket rather than lying flat at night. I used to put a small cushion or a rolled up towel under the mattress at the head end.

Dessallara · 10/10/2014 13:59

If baby is very little and can't have even gentle medicine, a drop of breast milk into a nostriles should help.

loubymain · 10/10/2014 14:37

Steam is the answer for unblocking noses, and vicks vapour rub to try to keep it clear... I have used saline drops before today with a unblocking tool... but find it is difficult to get the little un to comply.

barker99 · 10/10/2014 22:45

Sterimar Sea Salt water spray helped us very much

akshay23 · 10/10/2014 23:07

Vicks vapour rub works perfect for me

12LuDo · 11/10/2014 15:27

Creating steam by boiling a kettle in their room, or sitting them in a steamy bathroom helps clear stuffy noses really effectively.

brookson · 11/10/2014 15:52

we use to find a nice bath before bed and vaporub and some calpol - when really bad we use to put on a vaporiser

sugarthief · 11/10/2014 16:46

you cant beat good old fashioned steam! works a treat and loosens everything up letting them breathe so much easier - sit in bathroom with door closed and run the shower hot, your very own steam room! :-)

smit23 · 11/10/2014 18:01

just keep wiping, but be gentle.

TrudieForde · 11/10/2014 20:29

Alternate between tissue and wet wipes, to stop the nose area becoming sore!

zatuns · 11/10/2014 20:41

I use to add some vapor rub to their clothing and pillow to help them have a good nights sleep.
I 've only just discovered Cussons Bath to which is perfect to use in conjunction with the balm!

superhez · 11/10/2014 21:03

Not sure how or why it works, but vicks on their feet with socks on top always seems to help mine.
