Saline drops help clear a stuffy nose quickly and then use of an aspirator to move some of the mucus.
At night it's good to have a cold air vaporisor to give a comfortable night's sleep for baby (and you!)

littleme96 · 28/09/2014 20:45

Snuffle babe worked really well for us and Karvol on a tissue near to them sleeping also seemed to help.

clarejw24 · 28/09/2014 20:49

Vapour rub under the pillow.

beckyinman · 28/09/2014 20:51

Vaseline - it has a multitude of uses so it is always in my cupboard

KittyKat88 · 28/09/2014 21:26

I always elevate the mattress (using a folded towel underneath it) so my DD was raised up and that helped the sinuses clear a bit. A bit of vapour rub on chest and back helps too.

lhlee62 · 28/09/2014 21:44

Snufflebabe on the chest seems to really help us and sitting in a hot steamy bathroom. A Vicks plug in is supposed to be fantastic, but we haven't tried one yet

fazkin · 28/09/2014 22:40

Light food, avoiding dairy, wipe nose with wet muslin/tissue and saline drops for the night

kerryv · 28/09/2014 22:57

Cuddles!!!

TooMuchCantBreath · 28/09/2014 23:59

I always used gentle wipes instead of tissue for nose wiping, much easier to deal with anything dry and never caused the sore red nose you get with anything dry. If you save the dried wipes you can get at the end of a packet they can be wrung out in warm water and are just the job Smile

Massage - As a foster carer I have had my fair share of snotty babies and found that massaging really helps. ASK your midwife or nurse to show you how though as you need to do this right. It is not difficult but I would always recommend being shown by a professional before doing this. It does however work so well :)

glowgirl · 29/09/2014 08:21

Saline drops and paracetamol/ibuprofen liquid :)

marcc82 · 29/09/2014 08:24

Tissues

Chopstheduck · 29/09/2014 08:33

Raise one end of the cot, put some heavy books or something under the feet. :)

createbeauty · 29/09/2014 08:46

When my son was snotty as a very young baby, I bought him a Calpol Vapour Plug and nightlight which helped ease his congestion and allowed him to sleep.

lizd31 · 29/09/2014 10:31

A lavender plug in helps when sleeping

happysouls · 29/09/2014 10:57

Vaseline is absolutely fantastic for soothing and protecting the skin around the nose, in fact I must get the jar out of the cupboard as I'm coming down with a cold myself today argghhh!

southernsun · 29/09/2014 11:00

We always give our son a bottle in the bathroom with the shower going when he has a snotty nose. The steam always seems to help him.

NelAllan · 29/09/2014 11:39

Saline drops are great and olbas oil in warm water near a radiator (out of reach) really helps too.

Dolallytats · 29/09/2014 11:55

Saline drops, vicks/snufflebabe, soft tissues and lots of cuddles!!

del2929 · 29/09/2014 12:29

a nice warm bath usually softens all the gunk and it all slides out (yuck lol)

Cambam2010 · 29/09/2014 12:32

I've always found that Olbas Oil is the best decongestant for night time. A few drops on a tissue helps clear noses and helps breathing.

When my DS was a baby I found the plastic Snot Suckers (not sure what their correct name is), brilliant for extracting bogies, and also doubled up as a distraction during nappy changes by using it to blow puffs of air on to his skin.

run the shower or bath with hot water for a few minutes then give baby a cuddle in the bathroom for 10 minutes, the steam will help unclog the sinuses

sealight123 · 29/09/2014 13:36

A snotty nose is always better after a nice hot steamy shower (obviously not too hot) with some lavender wash. We then pop some snufflebalm on her chest so it will unblock a bit, a dose of calpol and plenty of cuddles.

When is there not a horror story when my daughter has a stuffy nose, she sneezes on everything and leaves a nice snotty trail wherever she has been, bless her.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 29/09/2014 14:00

I find that if I use babywipes too often on DS's nose the skin around it becomes quite dry & patchy, though I find normal tissues too harsh too so we often just use a wet cloth / flannel / muslin.

Lots of milk & cuddles help too!
