Putting a damp towel with a few drops of menthol on a radiator in baby's room. Dampness and menthol help to clear their noses.

the obvious vapour rubs etc but i found taking in the car seat and letting baby sleep upright made it much easier for them to breath.

JWalker23 · 11/10/2014 22:12

I would say a nice bath and a nice rub on the back/belly :)

GatoradeMeBitch · 11/10/2014 22:17

You can buy things that will suck the snot out of a baby's nose, I think one of them is literally called the Snoptsucker! I know it sounds icky, but they can't blow their noses, and getting some of the mucus out of their noses helps a lot!

Gill81uk · 11/10/2014 22:52

Turn the shower on and then sit in the steamy bathroom with baby for 5 mins. It's amazing how much it helps to clear it.

Raise the head of the cot by putting some books under the mattress and also some olbas oil dropped onto the sheet.

My youngest suffered terribly with a blocked up nose and I did the following - bath in a steamy bathroom every night before bed, a pillow under her mattress to tilt her slightly (note - not a pillow that she could get to but UNDER the mattress) a vaporiser in the bedroom and vicks vapour rub on her chest and on a muslin hung over the cot.

A little vicks or olbas oil in an oil burner is fantastic for snotty babies, as are saline drops. I also put a little vicks on my own chest when breast feeding that seemed to help

cathyov · 12/10/2014 08:58

Lots of extra soft large hankies and plenty of Vaseline

Mandahul · 12/10/2014 10:30

Olbas drops on the bedding (but not where it can make direct contact with the skin). used to work a treat when my boys were babies.

grannybiker · 12/10/2014 11:17

My babies both came up with a rash if I put any rub on their chests, so I had a burner with menthol or similar.
When they were very tiny, they slept on me so that they were more upright.
Scary when they can't breathe properly :(

sundial040 · 12/10/2014 17:43

drop of ecualyptas oil in warm water under radiator to circulate the air

chrriss · 12/10/2014 19:43

Saline drops are great for unclogging stuffed up nostrils.

TiggersAngel7774 · 12/10/2014 21:05

Oilbas oil on a hankerchief and place near babies cot but out of reach.
apply vaseline below nose as barrier against snots and chaffing from tissues as mum/ guardian/ carer wipes nose

kimnews · 12/10/2014 21:42

Saline spray and tilting the cot mattress slightly so the baby's head is elevated.

VickyRsuperstar · 12/10/2014 23:09

I use baby wipes on their nose /face as the snot usually gets everywhere! and I use paracetamol if the baby has a fever. Usually its just a matter of comforting an upset little one who doesn't understand why they feel so rough :-( so lots of cuddles, plenty of fluids and wrapped up nice and warm and kept inside for a few days.
