We've been asked by Ready brek to find out about MNers' best porridge based recipes and healthy breakfast creations

Ready brek says "Coinciding with the launch of Ready brek's 'easy sachets' collection, we'd love to hear about how MNers customise their porridge. In tasty Original and delicious Chocolate and Gingerbread flavours, and made only from finely milled oats, vitamins and minerals, this hot oat cereal delivers all the benefits of an adult porridge, but without the lumps. Easy to make in the microwave or with hot milk this kids' porridge gives your children a tasty warming start to the day. But the Ready brek oats can be used for so much more than just porridge. One look at the Ready brek and Weetabix website shows just how versatile these oats can be. From Ready brek breakfast muffins, to 'ginger-brek men', there's hundreds of ways you can make your cereal go further."

So, how do you customise your porridge or Ready brek? Maybe you add some bananas? Or do you prefer to add blueberries or raspberries? Perhaps honey is your usual addition? Whatever you add to your porridge, Ready brek would love to hear about how you keep breakfast time fun and healthy.

If you don't usually have porridge for breakfast, do you have any porridge based recipes? Perhaps you like to add porridge oats when you're baking cookies? Or maybe you'd rather use your porridge oats for flapjacks? Let Ready brek know what your favourite porridge based recipes are.

Every MNer who posts on this thread will go into a prize draw to win £250 from Ready brek and Weetabix.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I like to add Blueberries or Raspberries to mine.Sometimes i'll add a bit of honey if I haven't got any fruit in.

addictedtosugar · 09/09/2014 09:12

DS1 - honey
DS2 - raisins

A handful of oats in crubble topping makes it really yummy.

claireblaney123 · 09/09/2014 09:15

Loving the sound of some of the other suggestions on here though, will have to try them out.

lizd31 · 09/09/2014 09:35

I don't add anything but I buy the one with golden syrup as it adds such a lovely sweet flavour without being too overpowering

easter1965 · 09/09/2014 09:35

Either sultanas or a spot and I mean a spot of Strawberry Jam in the centre, little bit like when I was at school and had jam in the centre of Rice pudding. It may sound odd but it's yummy.

tiddles12 · 09/09/2014 09:40

I add golden syrup- love it!

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 09/09/2014 09:45

Always golden syrup for myself and DS1. DH has his plain mostly, sometimes with a scattering of brown sugar.

DJASKEW · 09/09/2014 09:49

dobedobedo · 09/09/2014 09:51

Ds1's favourite breakfast is porridge and banana.

At easter he'd break up an Easter Egg and stir that into his porridge too! Smile

gabbyevs · 09/09/2014 09:52

a bit oof syrup to sweeten it up not everyday though!

Laineyflo · 09/09/2014 09:54

Honey and blueberries..delicious!

KraggleLego · 09/09/2014 09:56

I add a a bit of golden syrup and make it watery then drink it in the winter. I appreciate I'm strange. Grin

nobutreally · 09/09/2014 09:56

DS is a porridge fiend, and usually adds mashed banana, cinnamon and black treacle!
At the weekend, we sometimes put a choice of things out so everyone can add their own - chopped apple; banana; sultanas/raisins; other dried fruit (prunes and dates are popular); plus honey/golden syrup/brown sugar/maple syrup

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/09/2014 09:57

Thanks to this thread, I have just had a lovely bowl of porridge - with brown sugar - a warming start to the day.

And I have just remembered - I forgot to tell you how my FIL takes his porridge (which he makes, when at home, in a double boiler 'porringer', that he is inordinately proud of). He makes a very thick, stiff porridge, and has a mound of it in the middle of the bowl, sitting in a lake of natural yoghurt - no sweetening at all. It looked terrible.

prwilson · 09/09/2014 10:04

I add mixed berries and a drizzle of honey.

hdh747 · 09/09/2014 10:06

I have mine with honey, and when there are any berries in the garden add those too. So blackberries right now. I find it very relaxing popping out to pick a few before breakfast.

liane1987 · 09/09/2014 10:06

Honey or blueberries & almonds :-)

juju3 · 09/09/2014 10:06

Golden Syrup
